Mrs. Prior’s Classroom Procedures

1. When you enter the classroom: Get all needed materials ready for class to start – grab any papers

from you file folders by the door, sharpen your pencil, and begin bell work.

2. When you forget a pencil: In order to borrow a pencil from the teacher you have to give her some

collateral. This means you give the teacher a phone, iPod, wallet, etc. . . . and then the teacher

will give you a pencil, if she has one.

3. When the bell rings at the start of the period: Be in your seat and begin working on the bell

ringer while I take role. The bell ringers will be written on the board and you will write your

responses on the bell ringer paper I will give you.

4. When you are tardy: Come in quietly, sign in the tardy book, get your supplies from your file

folder, take your seat, and get on task with the class. This can all be done without making a

sound. To help clarify – a tardy is running through the door and/or funning to your seat after the

bell. A late tardy is walking through the door 10-20 minutes after the bell. (Remember: Tardies

and Late Tardies drop your grade.)

5. When the bell rings at the end of class: The bells are for the teachers more than they are for the

students. At the end of class, remain in your seat until I dismiss you. I will usually give you some

time before the bell rings to put your papers back in your file folder (the papers should never leave

the classroom unless it is homework), put the materials we used that day away, and clean up your

area. Realize that your class may have to stay after the bell rings in order to accomplish these and

possibly other tasks. (Just in case you are wondering—I will never let you leave class early, so

don’t ask.)

6. When you are absent: Before the bell rings at the start of class turn in any work that was assigned

before you left into the late basket. Make sure you write “ABSENT” at the top of the assignment,

otherwise your work will be assumed “late.” Please talk to me before or after class on what

assignments you missed and how you can make them up. Because this is a high participation class

I would suggest not missing days.

7. When assignments are late: Please write “Handed in and the date” at the top of the paper then

put in any late work into the late basket. Any work handed in after the due date is counted as late

and will receive a 5% deduction each day it is late. If you do not write the date it is automatically

only 70 %.

8. When you need a hall pass: Attached to this disclosure is a sheet with 3 hall passes. Each student

will have 3 opportunities to use the passes if they are in their possession. If you do not need to use

the hall passes you can turn them into Mrs. Prior at the end of the term/trimester for up to 15 extra

points.

9. When you want to make a comment or ask a question: Raise your hand and wait for me to call

on you if it is during direct instruction, or I’ll come to you if the class is working silently. Please

raise your hand and ask for permission to sharpen your penil or for anything else you need.

10. When you pass in papers: When I ask you to pass in an assignment, pass your papers forward

and then pass them all to your left. All the papers will end up with one person and then that

person will put them in your class basket.

11. When we need to leave the building in an emergency: When I ask you to stand, do so. When

we are all ready, I will ask you to file out of the room, row by row, through the door. Walk quietly

out of the building and do not stop to use the bathroom or get a drink. Look for me once outside

so I can take roll. If you are not present at that time you will not only receive an absent from the

fire drill, but also an absent for the day.

12. When I want to get the class’s attention: I will hold up my hand. I will begin counting down

from 5 and by the time I get to zero your mouths and materials should be quiet with your eyes on

me.

13. If there is extra time at the end of the period: If you personally finish early then please catch up

on any work you may have missed in the past, bring a book to read, or bring something else to

work on. If we finish early as a class I will read a book to the class with the remaining time.

14. Food, Drink, and Gum: There is no food in the classroom unless we are actually cooking that

day. You can have water but it needs to stay on the ground. And you can chew gum during lecture

as long as it ends up in the garbage and nowhere else; you cannot chew gum around any

equipment that we use.

Please refer to these classroom procedures if you are ever unsure of what to do, or you may also ask

guidance from me.

I am so excited to get to know all of the students in my classes and their parents. Please do not hesitate to

contact me if there is something I can do regarding your student

Thank you,

Mrs. Prior
