Main objectives:• Identify, evaluate and assess the critical
developments, innovations and fi ndings in EU R&D on large-scale integration of DER.
• Mitigate barriers for and assess costs and benefi ts of the application of DER supply solutions in the different Member States and recommend applicable concepts of regulation, policies and business models for integrating more DER.
• Identify system management improvements such as pro-active networks securing viable business and operation for both networks and DER operators.
• Raise the awareness of benefi ts of DER in general and organising dissemination and transfer of knowledge from EU-15 R&D community and stakeholders towards the stakeholders in the New Member States (NMS).

Main objectives:• Investigation of new micro source, storage
and load controllers to provide effi cient operation of Microgrids.
• Development of alternative control strate-gies (centralised versus decentralised)
• Alternative Network designs.• Technical and commercial integration of
Multi-Microgrids.• Field trials of alternative control and
management strategies.• Standardisation of technical and commer-
cial protocols and hardware.• Investigate impact on power system
operation.• Investigate impact on the development
of electricity network infrastructures.
Our Vision: A major contribution coming from Renewable Energy
Sources (RES) and other sources of Distributed Generation (DG) to the European electricity network within the fi rst quarter of this century.
Our Mission: To facilitate the integration of Renewable Energies and
Distributed Generation into the future European electricity network and to create a competitive European industry for a sustainable and reliable future power supply.
Objectives:• Increase stakeholders awareness of the growing importance
of RES and DG.• Contribute to remove technical, economical and regulatory
barriers for the grid connection of RES and DG.• Create a favourable environment for socio-economic ac-
ceptance of intermittent RES and DG without risks to qual-ity or safety.
• Create a knowledge infrastructure for design, realisation and operation of the future European smart electricity grid.
Most Important Initiatives • International exchange and conferences in 2004, 2006 and
2008. • Set-up of the European Technology Platform “Smart Grids”
for the electricity networks of the future.
