excitement as TAMIU Spirit Week

came to a close. During the

Women’s game, the Coronation

Ceremony was held for our first

are students who embody the TAMIU spirit, excel academically,

and are involved in campus life as well as community service. Both

have a commitment of service at various university functions and

events throughout the year, and each will receive their Official

Hafizul Islam, „01 Dr. Islam is living in Melbourne, Australia and is working for Price

Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) as a Strategy Consultant.

He pursued his MS in Information Systems at TAMIU and his Doctorate

degree in Marketing at the University of Melbourne.

Gina Cavazos, „08 Gina has been working at M.B. Lamar Middle School for LISD for the past three years. She

currently teaches 6th grade Social Studies. Ms. Cavazos has been the proud sponsor of the

Prancers dance team for three years and the Cheer squad for two. Under her direction, both

teams have won numerous awards. She is happily married and the mother to a ten month old

girl and a four year old boy!

She pursued her Bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Dance at TAMIU and is

currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Education from Grand Canyon University.

Juan Guajardo, „73 Mr. Guajardo taught for UISD for five years before entering the retail industry at Montgomery

Ward in Laredo. He started as a department manager and moved up to Human Resources

and Operations in a span of approximately 5 years. His career with was only beginning, as he

has worked in Chile, Argentina, and Mexico for Home Depot as an International Corporate

Trainer.

“While as a student at TAMIU (Texas A&I at Laredo), I was deeply influenced by the diversity

of my professors. I learned that in order to succeed in a foreign country, one should respect

each other cultures...I am deeply grateful for the education I received at TAMIU. I feel I led a

very fruitful and rewarding career.”

Mr. Guajardo received a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a minor in Spanish from Texas

A&I at Laredo. He has four daughters, all of whom are working professional careers and is

enjoying retirement.
