WELCOME TO CAMP OOWASSIS!

We are committed to providing kids with a safe and positive experience as we nurture community, promote the Y’s core values, and encourage the joy of being active! Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. Few environments are as special as camp. Kids become a community as they learn how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group while engaging in physical, social and educational activities. Camping teaches self- reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership. Y counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.

GOALS FOR OUR CAMPERS• Make friends, have fun and enjoy

being a kid.

• Experience new things and a variety of creative activities that will keep campers physically fit while spending time in the great outdoors.

• Find their imagination.

• Experience a sense of pride in their actions, choices and projects.

• Experience opportunities to share and express their ideas with a group.

• Become a productive member of a group.

• Be a part of something bigger then themselves.

• Develop relationships with adults that believe in them.

• Respect themselves, others and nature.

• Enjoy reading through storytelling, silent reading and reading aloud.

• Through participation in our swimming program, learn swimming skills and water safety.

• Take opportunities to make choices independently and with a group.

• Experience the camp spirit within themselves and enjoy sharing it with others.

OUR PHILOSOPHYThe YMCA of Delaware believes in providing comprehensive camp programs, which foster the social, cultural, physical and emotional development of children of all ages. All activities reflect the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We create an opportunity for children to enhance their self-esteem, build friendship skills, develop greater independence as well as give them a sense of their creative potential in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.

PACKING DAILYYou may choose to pack your child’s lunch daily. If so, please keep in mind that there are no refrigerators or microwaves available. If your child does not want to participate in the afternoon snack program, please make sure to pack afternoon snacks for them.

WATER BOTTLEWe encourage everyone to bring a water bottle daily. Campers will move around outside during the day and having a water bottle to stay hydrated is very important. There are plenty of water refill stations and water fountains at our camp. Please remember to label your child’s water bottle with their first and last name.

THANK YOU!Of those children receiving free and/or reduced cost meals at school during the school year, only one in six have access to a similar type of program during the summer months. Thanks to support from the Y USA, Walmart, and Annual Campaign donors, our camp fills this opportunity gap, providing free meals for many campers during the summer months.
