  • DIGESTION

Do you know how the food travels in the parts of our body? What organs or materials help it? Well the food that we take into our mouth must be changed into substances that can be carried in the blood, to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion. The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. Some of the food is broken up into small pieces by the action of the teeth, and is mixed with the saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mouth. From the mouth, the food passes through the esophagus, into the stomach. Here, the food is mixed with the juices for several hours, and when it is very nearly liquid, it is squeezed through into the small intestine. By now, the original food has been changed into acids. What is left is waste matter, which is expelled from the anus. That is the process of digestion.
