EXPERIMENT OF MINERALS COMPETITION
Problem statement : What is the effect of the plant thatlive in same
area.
Aim : To find out if plants compete for nutrient.
Hypothesis : If the competition of mineral is increase,so
the height of plant decrease.
Things to keep the same : 1.The quantity of minerals2.The distance between corn seeds.
Thing to change : The time taken
Thing to observe : The number of leaves and the height ofplant
Apparatus : 1. 15 corn seeds2. cotton wool3. ruler4. blue tag5. toothpicks6. scissors7. tray
8. petri dish9. plant fertilizer10. tap water
Steps :
1. The tray is half-filled with the cotton wool.2. Nine holes of equal distance on the cotton wool is made using
stick.3. 15 corn seeds is placed on a damp cotton wool in a petri dish4. The corn seeds are leaved to for 24 hours to be germinated.
5. Meanwhile, the beaker is half-filled with water.6. Two spoonful of plant fertilizer is put into the beaker. The
fertilizer is stir to be dissolved.7. Nine pieces (1cm X 0.5 cm) of paper are cut and be numbered
it into 1-9. The numbered papers are stick on toothpicks tomake flag label.
8. Nine seedling of the same size are selected. One seedling isplanted into each hole.

9. The flag labels are stick near each seedling.10. The tray is poured by the fertilizer solution.11. The tray is placed in an open place until the seedling
produces the first green leaves.12. The base container is moved to place where there is enough
sunlight.13. The plant is observed from every two day for 10 days. Thewater is added into the tray for every 2 days
14. The height of plant is measured and the leaves also arecounted.
15. The observation is recorded into the tables.
Result:
Conclusion : The increase the competition of mineral, thelesser
the number of leaves produced by plant.

EXPERIMENT OF FRICTION
Problem statement : What is the effect of the friction tothe
distance traveled by the toy car.
Aim : To investigate the relationship betweenthe
Friction of the surface and the distancetraveled by the toy car.
Hypothesis : The more the friction on the surface, thelesser the distance traveled by the toycar.
Things to keep the same : 1.The type of toy car2.The push force
Thing to change : The friction of the surface
Thing to observe : The distance traveled by toy car
Apparatus : 1. plank2. toy car3. a pieces of carpet4. a pieces of sand paper5. measuring tape
Steps:
1. The apparatus is prepared by the pupils2. Three plank is put on the table
3. The first plank is leaved and the second plank is put by sandpaper while the third plank also be put by the carpet.
4. The toy car is pushed using the same amount of force to plank1, 2 and 3.
5. The distance traveled by the toy car is recorded using thetable:

SCIENCE PRACTICAL WORK (PEKA) 2010
FIELD STUDY 1
TOPIC: PRESERVATION
NAME :
CLASS :
Task:
1. Peel off the potato and slices it into wedges.
2. Place three wedges on three plates. Labels plates A, B and C
3. Cover potato wedge B with sugar and potato wedge C with salt.
4. Observe the condition of the potatoes on the fifth day.
Observations:
1. Which plates has mould grown on the potato wedges?
2. Which plates has no mould?
3. Which plates has a few mould on the potato?

SCIENCE PRACTICAL WORK (PEKA) 2010
FIELD STUDY
TOPIC : FREEZE-DRIED APPLES
NAME :
CLASS :
Task:
1. Slice apples as thin as you can use a slicer of knife.
2. Arrange the slices of apples in a container.
3. After half an hour, look at the slices of apples. The slices should be
hard and frozen.
4. Leave them in the freezer for a week. The slices should be completely
dry by then. Now you have-freeze-dried apples.
5. Put the slices in a cup or bowl and add a little boiling water
6. Eat the guavas.
Observations:
1. What can you say about the look and taste of the freeze-dried
apples?
2. What kind of this preservation technique?

PROJECT PINEAPLE IN SYRUP
Problem statement : What are the other preservation
way to helpto preserve the pineapples using pickling.
Aim : To find out how pineapples pickles canbe
preserved by using bottling method andboiling
Hypothesis : Pineapples pickles can be preservedusing
boiling and bottling.
Apparatus : 1. pineapples2. strainer3. small container with a lid4. sugar5. wok6. knife
7. water8. ladle.9. stove
10. jar
Steps:
1. Pineapples is peeled and cut into shapes of uniform sizes.2. The pineapples is washed and drained.3. The syrup is prepared by boiling three cups of sugar to four
cups of water

4. The pineapples is boiled for 5 minutes in the syrup5. The hot pineapples are scoop out into the jar.6. Then, the pineapples are transferred into the small container.7. The hot syrup is poured into the small container.8. The top surface of the container is wiped cleanly.
9. The container is sealed firmly.10. The duration of pineapples can preserve is recorded
Result:
The container The duration of pineapple can staypreserved before become mould(day)

Conclusion :
The pineapples pickles can only stand be preserved in one week after
using boiling and bottling preservation ways.
Questions:
1. What kind of pickling techniques used? Please underline thecorrect answer.
Sugar solution / salt solution
2. Suggest the way of preservation that can increase the durationbefore the pineapples become spoilt.
