Enjoy multiple daily performances by small-scale unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), complemented by interactive stations where you can create flying objects of your own and then test them out using wind tubes or a motorized airplane launcher. A digital media kiosk highlights current events involving unmanned flight technology and its uses. Hurry into the Fleet, and enjoy this exhibition before it takes off at the end of the year! DECEMBER 2—Senior Monday lecture: San Diego’s Streetcars—From Boom to Bust and Back Again and the IMAX® �lm �e Discoverers. Jim Price will present the fascinating history of San Diego County’s streetcars, illustrated with photos and maps. Price is the author of San Diego County Train Stations: �en and Now. �e �rst Monday of the month, seniors 65+ enjoy the Science Center exhibits, a lecture and a Giant Dome �eater show at a discount! Doors open at 9:30 a.m.; lecture begins at 10:30 a.m., with �lm at noon; Seniors $8, Adults $17.

DECEMBER 4—Origami with Bruce Gemmell. A �at sheet of material is transformed into a �nished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. 4 p.m.–7 p.m., Participation is included with gallery admission.

DECEMBER 4—�e Sky Tonight: Space Weather. We all know that the Sun has an e�ect on the Earth’s environment, but did you know that the Sun a�ects the space immediately around the Earth and other planets? Join us in December as we learn more about space weather. Weather and operational requirements permi�ing, the San Diego County Astronomy Association provides free telescope viewing outdoors on the Prado in Balboa Park. 7 p.m. & 8:15 p.m.

DECEMBER 4—Exploring Ethics delves into topics related to the Pulitzer-prize winning book Emperor of All Maladies. �e speaker for Decenber is Razelle Kurzrock. In conjunction with the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology, the Fleet welcomes guests to encounter science from an ethical viewpoint; brings together community leaders of various backgrounds to examine current scienti�c issues from diverse perspectives; and invites the public to explore with them how science can best serve society. 5:30–7PM; William & Grayson Boehm Community Forum at the Reuben H. DECEMBER 6–7—December Nights in Balboa Park. �e Fleet will o�er free gallery admission, 5–9PM both evenings and $5 shows in the Dome �eater starting at 5PM. Take a photo with Santa, dine on festive food from Galileo’s Café (including clam chowder bread bowls and hot cider!) and celebrate the season.

FLEET EVENTSDECEMBER 7/14/21/28—Family Science Saturdays: Power. How much power can you generate, and how will it be expressed? From the many apparatuses in the Tinkering Studio, we invite you to demonstrate their abilities in power generation. Activities included with admission. 1 p.m.–3 p.m.

DECEMBER 14—Saturday Science Club for Girls: �e Chemistry of Cosmetics. Discover how chemists determine the ingredients for new cosmetics. Perform scienti�c tests on product samples and mix up your own concoction to take home! Girls in grades 5–8 can join the Fleet on the second Saturday of each month to investigate exciting science topics. Noon–2 p.m.; members $12, nonmembers $14; must pre-register by calling (619) 238-1233 ext. 806.

Musical kids will love Rock and Roll Camp on Dec. 23 and 27 (sign up for one or both days). Budding builders will dig Awesome Engineers Camp, Dec. 30–Jan. 3. Sign up for all �ve days, a single day or multiple days. Techie kids will master computing in our new Computer Programming Camps.
