Class : Grade 6

As Part of : An urban planning module of work, Urbanisation

Opportunities : get involved, appeal to more Intelligences

•Think Ahead – How our world has changed , and is changing

•Rescue – Emergency services within disaster zones

Then/Now

Pumping Station (45 minute tour) – (with deference to Howard Gardner) I propose a ninth learning Intelligence – the Olfactory Intelligence !!! – (the Sewers)

- the history, WWII, machinery (industrial revolution)and even the geography of Melbourne is explored, the sewerage system under

the city – when it was developed in early 1900s (popn was 500,000) it could already ‘cater’ for 5 million people. !!! Microbiologist/Police/French style.

Planetarium (extra charge, 45 minute show)- ‘Stories in the stars’ show gives a unique look

at the lives of the Boorong peoples of Northern Victoria, and how they told stories and passedMyths through generations using the starsand the native lands. The Boorong clan was a member of the Wergaia speaking peoples; their descendants live in north-west Victoria and throughout Victoria. Alternative ‘Climate: the phenomenon that makes Life on Earth possible.’

Think Ahead – Sustainability, Interactive displays of how your home works, energy used, how a city works (balance between commerce, residential and environmental areas) ; see yourself as a robot. Learn about the history (and predicted ) future of medicine, finances, commerce, transport, media + communication population (non human and human). Incorporating - Egyptian, Persian, Roman, Chinese civilisations.Voting booths on displays (Will future be better ? Y/N )

Rescue (extra charge) – Exhibit detailing work of Emergency services, and the vital work they do within Australia, and worldwide (example Chile mine disaster), and how with today's media we are all aware of natural and non-natural disasters and events.
