Balanced Performance

The Pacific Seacraft 34's moderatedisplacement contributes to bothcomfort and speed. With a length ondeck of 34' 1" and a displacement of13,200 lbs., the 34 is light enough tomake her swift, heavy enough tomake her comfortable, and spaciousenough to hold ample stores for a longpassage.

Hull shape also affects motion(comfort) and speed. All the advan-tages of the Crealock designed canoestern with ample overhang have beenwell proven in the Pacific Seacraft 37and are incorporated in the PacificSeacraft 34.

Canoe SternCrealock notes that the canoe stern "givesappreciably better lines to the hull than the otherdouble-enders, and it offers that vital factor ofreserve buoyancy without presenting too muchof a rump to the seas: it does, however, take a lotof care in the designing. If you would judge astern, realize first that it will have more effect onthe motion of the boat than will the bow.Secondly, when the going gets really tough, yourstern will probably have to serve as your bow."

dorade vents provide all the ventila-tion you need for ultimate comfort.

Elegance and function — themain salon

The spacious main salon reflects atraditional layout with moderninnovations. Port and starboardsettees provide excellent sea berths,and the port settee converts easily intoa wide double berth. The port setteeback is cleverly designed to allowinstant access to storage behind, yetremains totally secure underway.Teak storage lockers and bookshelveswith removable fiddles will keep yourpersonal gear and the ship's librarysafely tucked away. Teak ceilings areanother indication of PacificSeacraft's attention to detail.

A choice of two different salon tablesis offered. The bulkhead mountedtable may be used fully extended fordining, partially extended for casualuse, or folded completely out of theway for additional space in the salon.A drop leaf table gives a most tradi-tional feeling to the cabin, providingsecure handholds and a permanent leecloth.

In the forward cabin is a large V-berththat can be converted to a doubleberth, with lockers underneath, full

length shelves along the hull, and adouble hanging locker.

The head compartment hasn't beenoverlooked; it has storage lockersabove and below the sink, andincludes such amenities as a teak-framed mirror, hand holds and towelbar. The molded in shower pan iscovered by a teak grate.

Head

The head compartment is attractive and easy toclean, with a soft white matte finish trimmed in handrubbed teak. Ample stowage for personal items isprovided above and below the sink counter.

Her gourmet galley

Her galley will satisfy the heart of agourmet cook. There's a remarkableamount of stowage space in cabinetsand drawers, including a custom teakdish locker and a removable trashcontainer that fits into the counter top.A deep double stainless steel sink witha foot operated pump, gimballed stovewith oven, and a large, well-insulatedice box complete the arrangement.

The navigator's station is located on thestarboard side of the companionwayladder where it is easily accessible fromthe cockpit. It features a large charttable with flip top storage compartment,a master control panel that is hinged foreasy access to wiring, and convenientcove for electronics. The forward endof the quarter berth serves as a secureseat for the navigator. Beneath thechart table is a wet locker for hangingfoul weather gear.

In keeping with the Pacific Seacraftreputation for uncompromised quality,much of the hardware is custom builtbased on the experience of what isnecessary offshore. Special verticallymounted stainless steel lifelinestanchions, solid bronze portlightswith tempered glass lenses, and thedeck woodwork are all installed withthe knowledge of how wind, sun, andsaltwater can combine to attack anocean crossing vessel. All hull anddeck hardware installations beginwith carefully hand drilled holes thatare sealed with resin to protect theintegrity of the lamination. The hulland deck are watertight. All of theselittle things add up to carefullythought out design and construction toinsure comfort and safety.

Hull to Deck JointThe vital deck/hull connection is engineeredwith a double flange bedded in high tensilepolyurethane adhesive compound and thru-fastened with ¼" 18-8 stainless steel bolts. It isthe strongest, most water-tight connectionavailable in current production technology.Chain plates are ¼" thick and 2" wide type 304stainless steel thru-fastened to the hull with ½"stainless steel bolts and full hacking plates.Chain plates and hacking plates are bedded tothe hull to positively prevent leaks.

Sea HoodThe sliding hatch and seahood on the Pacific Seacraft 34 are planked in solid teak. A series of integralbaffles and drains positively prevent water penetration.

The attachment of bulkheads to the hull and deck of a sailboat is critical; large dynamic loads are placed onbulkheads by the strain of mast, rigging and waves. One of the most common failures aboard cruising yachts isbulkheads which come adrift due to inferior installation. The main structural bulkheads of the 34 are bonded tothe hull and thru-bolted to the interior module. They are also bonded to the underside of the deck. To makeabsolutely sure that the bonds remain secure, they are sandwiched between teak deck beams which are then thru-bolted to deck and bulkhead No yacht offers a finer installation.

Her stern provides critically importantreserve buoyancy without presentingtoo large a surface to an angry sea.

Her elegant bow flows smoothly intoa long keel and sturdy skeg-hungrudder for directional stability andbalance, providing exceptionalhandling qualities under both sail andpower. For protection against acci-dental grounding or when careened,the bottom of the skeg and rudder arenot quite as deep as the bottom of thekeel. The skeg also allows for apropeller aperture which protects thepropeller from being fouled by kelp,lines and debris.

The 34's keel is a solid lead ballastsecured by stainless steel keel boltsfashioned into J-hooks. skilled boatbuilders. In addition tobeing the heaviest practical ballast,the lead keel protects the hull in agrounding, avoiding cruising delaysdue to gelcoat and fiberglass repair.

The Pacific Seacraft 34 is also offeredwith an optional shoal draft Scheelkeel. A Scheel keel is an alternative,not a compromise. In fact, its centerof gravity is within 1" of the deepdraft keel. None of the superiorhandling characteristics are lost; whatis gained is the ability to sail intowaters which are off limits to deeperdraft boats.

The PS 34's split underbody isessential to her balance and ease ofhandling. The hull section betweenthe keel and skeg is drawn deep toenhance straight line tracking. Thedistance between keel and skegcontributes significantly to heroutstanding maneuverability.

You'll stay cozy and dry

Special design and engineeringfeatures you won't find on mostproduction boats — make the PacificSeacraft 34 cozier and drier for youand your crew. Lifeline stanchionsare thru-bolted to the vertical bul-warks instead of the horizontal decks.Thus, water is prevented from findingits way through the bolt holes. Also,the hull-to-deck joint is double sealedto prevent water from entering. Andchainplates are thru-bolted to the hull— they don't leak, and they provide awide shroud base for superior mastsupport.

Rudder & Skeg

The rudder is one of the most critical yetvulnerable parts of a cruising yacht-the PacificSeacraft 34 rudder has a ¼" thick "backbone"welded to a 2 -3/8" O.D. stainless steel shaft.Yet, while the rudder is stressed and con-structed to be self-supporting, it is furthersupported by the skeg which is reinforced witha molded-in structural steel channel. Skeg andrudder are connected at the lower end by amassive manganese bronze gudgeon.

One source of aggravation on mostcruising boats is taking on wind-driven rain and spray under theforward edge of the sliding compan-ionway hatch. This irritation hasbeen eliminated on the 34 byPacific Seacraft's unique sea hood.Constructed of fiberglass, andutilizing internal drain channels, itshields the main hatch and preventswater from entering the cabinthrough it.

A highly efficient sail plan contributes to the 34's capabilities. While a powerful performer under sail, her balanced rigand reasonable size of individual sails makes her a pleasure to handle by every member of the family.

Sailing Rig

Her rig is designed for strength and built to last. Hefty aluminum spars are coated with two part liner polyurethane finish for ease of maintenance.With an eye toward the rigors of the open sea and the need of the cruising sailor to effect repairs quickly and easily, standing rigging is of the highestquality 1x19 stainless steel wire leading from open-body forged bronze turnbuckles.

A stainless steel plate sits at the baseof the mast. It offers secure attach-ment point for blocks, shackles orother gear. Deck drains are molded into keep side decks dry. Runoff ischanneled via heavy duty hose to theboot top so the hull remains free ofstains and dirt. All cleats, ports,winches and chocks are solid bronzeand, along with the lifeline stanchionsand deck blocks, are thru-bolted to thedeck with full backing plates. Forprecise sail control, a roller bearingmainsheet traveler is installed over thecompanionway hatch.

Deck hardware such as this Herreshoff cleat is thru bolted to the deck using full backing plates for evenload distribution. Polyurethane caulking is used under hardware and under backing plates to preventleaks.

CockpitThe Pacific Seacraft 34 's cockpit was designed with comfort in mind. 6'5" long cockpit seats are perfect forstretch-out sunbathing and have comfortable contoured seat backs. High coamings provide refuge from windand spray. Mountains of cruising gear can quickly be stowed in four high capacity lockers. A waterproof engineaccess hatch is located in the cockpit sole.
