I agree with his statement, I think that the photo on the left is very mysterious and at some point a bit scare to me. When I look at this photography I like the idea of using the water reflection, because it creates the feeling of ‘double photo’; water is reflecting trees but also the sky.

Michael Kenna, Pine tress, Wolcheon, Gangwondo, South Korea 2007 This artist is specialised in producing black and white pictures, he preferes to take pictures at night as he says; ‘’Night photography for me was one way of escaping.’’ The reason why he is inspired to take pictures at night is because; ‘’Dramatic black shadows add to the mystery and drama.’’. I agree with his statement, I think that the photo on the left is very mysterious and at some point a bit scare to me. Aaron Siskind

Siskind is known for producing very abstract like photographs such as the one on the left, and although this photograph is not really showing anything figurative i.e. person, building or is telling some sort of story; I think its quite interesting, because of the curved lines that are the focal point in this photograph. Also what is interesting about this photograph is the strong contrast in tones and shades of black and white. It can be suggested that Siskind perhaps doesn’t want overload his photograph with competing colors, instead he may prefer to keep it focused on the shapes. The splashed paint in the background and on the main focal point itself, gives the photograph a chaotic and haphazard appearance, which in my opinion helps to draw the viewer into the image. The viewer might think that maybe the photo was taken during war, as the wall that has got the painting on it looks quiet old because of its color, which creates ‘dirtiness’. Maybe the artist took a close-up of some writing o the wall, leaving the audience with loads of unanswered questions, creating the picture very mysterious and abstract.

Gerhard Richter Richter (February 9, 1932) is a painter. He is painting all kinds of subjects including; portraits, colour charts, gray paintings, photo paintings and abstract. His abstract paintings are very strongly linked to my exam outcomes, as they also have different range of colours and sharp patterns. This also shows that different styles; as I am a photographer and he is a painter can have so much in common and can be so similar to each other.

Zachary Brown This is another painter called Zachary Brown (1982). As he says himself; abstract painting is his passion. His work is also a strong link to my final outcomes produced during exam. He is also experimenting with different range of colours and different patterns and shapes on the paintings. Some of my photographs are very similar to what he is producing. Especially dots, as I also have some photos with colourful dots. What is also interesting is that photos that I have taken are photos of graffiti walls. All this comes down to one: ART.

Overall Evaluation

Overall, I would say that this project has been a bit challenging for me as I have decided to produce abstract photographs for my exam preparation and I wasn’t really familiar with this technique. But the more photos I was taking the better understanding of ‘abstract’ I had. I am very happy with my developmental set of photographs taken on the trip. I have never tried this technique in photoshop but I am very happy with these outcomes. However this project is not my strongest, because I didn’t produce many photos for my second initial set of photos, I enjoyed doing my exam preperation the most out of the whole projects that we have done in this year.
