Foreword "Welcome to Geneva, and a really exciting show for Ford of Europe as we face one of

our busiest years ever in 2008.

Last year was a landmark year for Ford in Europe – in our sixth consecutive year of

increased vehicle sales, some 1.5 million European customers bought a new Ford car,

while our commercial vehicle range reached a record 370,000 customers, a 10 per cent

improvement on 2006.

This performance, coupled with our continued focus on reducing our costs, ensured

2007 was our fourth consecutive year in profit. I am proud to say Ford of Europe has

achieved a turnaround of almost $2billion over the past eight years, to record pre-tax

profits of $997m for 2007. Furthermore, we expect to be solidly profitable again in

2008.

This is driven by strong customer demand for a refreshed and revitalised Ford range,

with the impact of our 'kinetic design' form language extending across our products, and

creating vehicles that look as good as they drive – and they drive brilliantly. Today’s

Ford range truly appeals to the heart, as well as the head.

While I’m immensely proud of our achievements to date, 2008 is going to be a bumper

year for us - I can honestly say that I do not recall a year in which Ford of Europe will

have so many new products to launch. By the end of the year, we will have brought to

production our new small car range, the all-new Ford Kuga crossover and numerous

individual new models across our entire portfolio.

For us 2008 is very much the year of the small car, and it starts with the all-new

Ford Fiesta.

Following the incredible worldwide reception to our three Verve Concept vehicles,

we're proud and excited to reveal how the all-new Ford Fiesta turns the design concept

into production reality.

With over thirty years of success, the new model will challenge perceptions of what

small cars stand for and also attract a new generation of customers to the Fiesta brand

around the world. We're proud to keep the Fiesta name for the new model, as it is one of

the most recognised small car brands in the world.

I'm also delighted that we've kept all of the style, sophistication and excitement of the

Verve Concept, and all of the driving quality and technology features you'd expect from

a new Ford.

Significantly, the new Fiesta is also the next step in our global product development

process, and tailored versions of the car will be launched between 2008 and 2010 in

markets across Asia, South Africa, Australia and the Americas.

The new Ford Kuga crossover is the latest addition to our C-car lineup and appears in

Geneva alongside our entire new Focus range, including, for the first time, the new

Coupé-Cabriolet.

Kuga combines our acknowledged on-road driving dynamics with surprising all-wheel-

drive off-road ability in a bold and stylish package. It will take Ford into an exciting

new segment and I believe that, like the S-MAX, it will bring new customers to the

Ford brand.

For customers looking for ultra-low CO2 models, the new Mondeo ECOnetic joins the

class-leading Focus ECOnetic as we continue to push the efficiency of conventional

fuels, while our Flexifuel range grows in both choice and popularity with customers.

Over 17,000 Flexifuel models were sold in 2007 and 2008 sees the new Focus, the

Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models available as Flexifuel derivatives. In the future,

Page 4: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

we will continue in our commitment to what we do best: bringing efficient and

affordable new technologies to the mass market.

I hope you can now appreciate why I am excited about 2008. With great news across

our entire car range, there has never been a better time to be a Ford customer."

• European production of new Fiesta begins in autumn 2008

Ford of Europe is reinventing its small car range for a new generation of customers in

2008, starting with a stylish and exciting all-new Fiesta. The car makes its global debut

in both three- and five-door hatchback bodystyles at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

Designed and developed in Europe for sale in Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia and

the Americas between 2008 and 2010, the new Fiesta is the first major product of

Ford’s new global product development process. Its stylish and dynamic flair combines

with all the traditional Ford small car strengths to create a confident, contemporary

introduction to the next chapter of the Fiesta success story.

The new Fiesta opens another chapter in the story of the popular Ford small car that has

sold more than 12 million units since its introduction in 1976. Charismatic and

individual, the new model makes major strides in craftsmanship, quality of materials

and product choice while continuing to represent Fiesta’s traditional strengths of

practicality, value for money, agility and safety. It also brings a host of big-car features

to the small-car segment for the first time.

New Fiesta clearly embodies the hallmarks of 'kinetic design', which has so

convincingly infused emotion into the core of the Ford range in Europe. The Geneva

debut confirms that new Fiesta will bring the most appealing elements of Verve, a trio

of concept cars shown recently around the world, to production reality.

It also ends speculation surrounding the name of Ford’s new-generation small car for

global markets.

“This new car embodies the very essence of Fiesta – fun, vitality and emotion,” said

John Fleming, President and CEO, Ford of Europe. “We know there isn't a better name

for the new model, and we have over thirty years of investment in the Fiesta brand to

consider.

Page 7: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 7 -

"We’re confident that the combination of dynamic new 'kinetic design' exterior, great

interior design and craftsmanship, and a host of new technologies and features will

provide compelling reasons for a new generation of customers around the world to take

a fresh look at the Ford Fiesta. I know they will be both surprised and delighted with

what they see and feel," Fleming added.

Small Car with Global Plans

The new Ford Fiesta is closely related to the exciting Verve Concept vehicle that was

revealed to great acclaim at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Frankfurt car was one

of three Verve Concepts, with the others, both four-door sedans tailored for regional

market tastes, shown recently at Guangzhou in China and the North American

International Auto Show in Detroit. Together, these concepts paved the way for the

company's new global small car programme for the 2008 to 2010 period, with the

European Fiesta first to debut in production guise.

Ford designers and product development engineers in Europe have led the vehicle's

global development process.

“For Ford, this is truly a world premiere,” said Joe Bakaj, Vice President of Product

Development, Ford of Europe. “The new Fiesta is the first car born from our new global

product development process. More than ever, we’re leveraging our global product

development expertise, and this car sets the scene for future great products for

customers around the world that are already being developed behind it in the Ford

Global Product Development System pipeline.”

European production of the new Fiesta commences in the autumn of 2008 at the

company's Cologne plant in Germany. Later, as production ramps up, the Valencia

Assembly Plant will bring additional Fiesta capacity on line in 2009.

Page 8: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 8 -

“Fiesta has its heart in Europe but its eyes on the world,” said Marin Burela, Ford's

Global Executive Director for small-car development. “We’re building on Ford’s

heritage of excellence in small car development to give the new Fiesta truly global

reach and identity. By 2010, this new small-car family will be manufactured in Europe,

Asia and the Americas and be marketed as Fiesta in all of the world’s key automotive

markets.”

The new vehicle range will introduce several Ford firsts for a small car, including –

from later in 2008 – another model in the new Ford ECOnetic range promising CO2

emissions of fewer than 100 grams per kilometre.

Fit and Trim

• New model retains predecessor's compact size, but is lighter and stronger

• Intelligent Protection System includes new driver's knee airbag

• Detailed enhancements to acclaimed driving character include Electric Power

Assisted Steering (E-PAS) and reduced road, wind and powertrain noise

Unlike key competitors in the European small-car segment which have grown in size

and weight, the new Fiesta stands on virtually the same footprint as before. The new-

generation Fiesta is actually lighter than its predecessor.

“Staying small and resisting weight gains were key objectives of the new Fiesta

development process,” said Joerg Beyer, Fiesta Chief Carline Engineer. “We’ve been

absolutely committed to keeping Fiesta a compact car and having a razor-sharp focus on

cutting weight. That really pays off when it comes to fuel economy and CO2

emissions.”

Component by component, the Ford development team scrutinised for weight but

refused to compromise on key areas that are important to customers. One of the biggest

is safety, where new Fiesta makes a bold step forward with an extremely robust safety

structure and the Intelligent Protection System of safety technologies that brings a

driver's knee airbag to Fiesta for the first time.

Page 9: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 9 -

The new Fiesta makes extensive use of ultra high-strength steels in its body structure.

A remarkable amount of these specialist steels, including boron steel and dual-phase

steel, is the secret to Fiesta’s quantum leap in structural stiffness for its light weight.

These steels are used particularly in safety critical areas, such as the A-pillar and B-

pillar, part of the ultra-rigid 'door ring' structure of the Fiesta bodyside.

Extending Fiesta’s traditional excellence in driving dynamics was also a priority. The

new Fiesta will have a dynamic character to match its poised, 'kinetic design' style

hinting at energy in motion. Ford’s acclaimed dynamics engineers also worked hard to

enhance Fiesta’s ride comfort and isolate road, wind and powertrain noise from the

cabin, and to give the new model an impressively quiet driving quality for a small car.

New Fiesta retains the MacPherson strut front suspension and twist-beam rear

suspension layout that has been one of its traditional strengths, but the new suspension

and steering system has undergone an array of enhancements.

Electric-Power Assist Steering (E-PAS) is introduced in the Fiesta for the first time.

E-PAS provides the right balance of low-speed assistance and excellent feel and

responsiveness.

E-PAS has another key benefit. It is another key facet of new Fiesta’s initiatives to

reduce fuel consumption.

The electric power steering pump only operates when steering-effort assistance is

required, unlike traditional hydraulic PAS pumps that operate constantly when the

engine is running. This brings a fuel consumption reduction.

Efficient Powertrain Choices

• Total of five powertrain choices at launch from efficient 68 PS Duratorq TDCi

diesel to new Duratec 1.6-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine which delivers 115 PS

• Fiesta ECOnetic ultra-low CO2 model will deliver less than 100g/km emissions

With a broad array of powertrain choices, the new Fiesta is a responsive, yet efficient,

performer.

Page 10: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 10 -

New to the Fiesta range for European markets is the popular Ford Duratec 1.6-litre

Ti-VCT engine. The 115 PS engine with variable intake cam timing, provides a well-

balanced blend of performance and economy. It brings a 15 PS performance

improvement over the outgoing Fiesta without a fuel consumption penalty.

The Fiesta range also retains:

• 1.25-litre (60 and 80 PS) and 1.4-litre (91 PS) Duratec petrol engines

• Both Duratorq TDCi common-rail diesel engines, the 1.4-litre (68 PS) and the

1.6-litre (90 PS – available with Diesel Particulate Filter) which have been

enhanced with revised injection technology and electronic control sophistication.

Fiesta will be offered with Ford Durashift 5-speed manual transmission or the Durashift

4-speed automatic transmission (available with 1.4-litre (91 PS) Duratec engine).

Concept becomes Reality

• Production Fiesta is clearly related to Verve Concept

• Futuristic interior from Concept makes production with integrated HMI centre stack

• New technology highlights include keyless vehicle technology, 'Ford Power' engine

start button, Ford Easyfuel capless refuelling, USB connectivity and ambient

interior lighting

The new Ford Fiesta brings the radical Verve Concept exterior and interior styling to

production reality and incorporates features and technologies normally found in larger,

more expensive vehicles. It rejects the notion that an affordable small car has to be

basic or boring.

The highlight of the Verve Concept interior – the futuristic, mobile phone-inspired,

human-machine interface technology of the instrument panel centre stack – will be a

core feature of the new Ford Fiesta when it hits the road.

Page 11: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 11 -

Gone is the flat, upright centre stack of the instrument panel, a feature typical of many

small cars driven by the need to package a large radio head unit behind the fascia panel.

New technology allows Fiesta to separate the key elements of audio system – the

control buttons, display and underlying electronics – in a distributed architecture that

gives designers more freedom to create aesthetically pleasing, functional shapes.

Many customers of the new-generation Ford Fiesta were raised with mobile phones and

they will be instantly comfortable with the design of the car's Ford HMI (Human

Machine Interface) system, which follows the centre stack contours to frame a

large-screen display and control panel with key buttons for audio, in-car phone and

vehicle settings.

Convenient toggle switches incorporated into the steering wheel allow the driver to

control the system’s key functions easily and intuitively.

The latest Ford HMI system – already available on the Ford Mondeo, S-MAX and

Galaxy models – represents a major step forward for the small car buyer. It is just one

of several new features and technologies in the new Fiesta, including keyless vehicle

technology symbolised by the distinctive 'Ford Power' button on the instrument panel.

The advanced technology will not be offered solely on high-spec vehicles. Ford expects

more than 85 per cent of Fiesta orders to feature one of two available multi-function

displays.

Another Verve Concept feature – the lozenge shaped array of large twist dials for the

heating and ventilation systems at the midpoint of the centre stack – is retained in the

production Fiesta design. This feature was inspired by the design of contemporary

power showers.

Connectivity is another new Fiesta strength. The new centre console features a

convenient tray for MP3 players complete with built-in jack sockets for an auxiliary

(AUX) audio cable and a USB, along with the traditional 12 Volt outlet. This allows the

car's audio system to control and charge the MP3 player.

Page 12: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 12 -

Bluetooth® connectivity with Voice Control is also offered in the new Fiesta, along

with more big-car technologies, including:

• Ford Easyfuel, the convenient capless refuelling system recently introduced with the

Ford Mondeo designed to prevent accidental misfuelling

• Reach and rake steering wheel adjustment

• New ambient lighting features that provide a softly elegant red glow to discreetly

highlight the interior of the vehicle

• 'One shot' up and down driver window with anti-trap technology

Bold, Dynamic, Sculpted

The bold colours, dynamic shapes and sculpted surfaces of the new Ford Fiesta indicate

how deeply the spirit of the Verve Concept has been carried into production as the latest

model of Ford’s 'kinetic design' family.

Exciting and vibrant new production colours include 'Squeeze' and 'Hot Magenta',

which is a production version of the unique colour developed for the three-door Verve

Concept car.

"We were so pleased with the positive reaction to the body colour of the first Verve

Concept, that we decided to adopt this colour for inclusion in the range soon after

launch," said Burela.

The dynamic, coupé-like profile and sporty stance of the new Fiesta demonstrates that

none of the emotional appeal of the concept cars has been lost.

"All the vital elements of 'kinetic design' combine to create a visually rich, dynamic

exterior shape that is very close indeed to the original concept car," said Martin Smith,

Ford of Europe's Executive Director for Design. "Full surfaces, bold graphics and

dynamic lines combine coherently and harmoniously to create a dynamic spirit of fun

and energy in motion."

Page 13: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 13 -

With a feeling of toned muscularity, the new Fiesta asserts an air of confidence,

stylishness and individuality. Its aggressively contoured bonnet and front wings convey

a broad-shouldered stance, and its face features a distinctive signature element – a bold

lower trapezoidal grille that draws attention and reinforces the key Ford attribute of

sporty driving dynamics.

Chrome and brightwork are used selectively, like jewellery accents, to convey elegance

and sophistication.

Large and full of character directly from the Verve concepts, Fiesta’s bold headlamps

become part of the shoulder shape and extend aggressively rearward almost as far as the

stylishly raked A-pillars. The headlamp units incorporate all primary front lighting and

signal functions – complemented on the lower bumper flanks by round, chrome-ringed

fog lamps.

New Fiesta’s profile emphasises its new, cab-forward shape and an attitude of poised,

sporty style. The sweeping roofline extends appealingly from the forward-stretching

A-pillar rearward, framing the bold graphic of the Fiesta side window profile to create

the sporty feeling of a coupé for both three- and five-door bodystyles.

“The Design team put as much importance on the shape of the five-door as the three-

door,” said Stefan Lamm, Chief Designer Exterior, Ford of Europe. “Both cars are

based on the same body, which makes them sporty and dynamic, almost coupé-like.”

The Fiesta side windows combine to create a unified profile window graphic – a key

'kinetic design' element that communicates dynamism. An elegant accent of chrome

frames the lower edge of the side glass and accentuates the signature Ford “kick-up” at

its rear.

The new Fiesta also features the signature bold wheel arches that communicate the

vehicle’s stance and dynamic capabilities, giving visual emphasis to new 17-inch alloy

wheels.

Page 14: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 14 -

Dynamic, 'kinetic design' lines arc from side to side, uniting the upper corners of the tail

lamps with the distinctive spoiler, which incorporates a slim LED stop lamp array. The

sculpture of the body shapes is accented by elements like the new tail lamp – another

Verve element that feels like it is an integral part of the body – and the V-shaped

tailgate’s chamfered rear glass.

“I’ve been saying just wait for the new Fiesta to see how kinetic design can be

translated into a small car,” said Martin Smith, Executive Director of Design for Ford of

Europe. “But now the wait is over. New Fiesta evokes an instant emotional response

that says ‘I want one’ which extends the traditionally practical values of the Fiesta

brand to appeal to a new, style-conscious generation of small car buyers.”

Full technical details of the new Fiesta range will be released closer to the launch of the

production model in autumn 2008.

NEW COUPÉ-CABRIOLET TO COMPLETE THE NEW FORD

FOCUS FAMILY

• Restyled Focus Coupé-Cabriolet debuts at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show

• New Focus front end with 'kinetic design' styling

• Enhanced interior with high quality materials and new instruments

• Best in class Coupé-Cabriolet luggage compartment volume with roof up

and down

• Coupé-Cabriolet completes the line-up of new Focus bodystyles, comprising

3-door, 4-door, and 5-door Sedans as well as Wagon

• Ultra-stiff body to support driving dynamics and steering precision

The new four-seater Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet has its public debut at the 2008

Geneva Motor Show. The new model joins the three-door, four-door, five-door, wagon

and sporty ST models, extending the comprehensive new Focus range and offering the

greatest variety of bodystyles for a single vehicle line within the Ford of Europe

portfolio. As a final addition to the exciting and fully comprehensive Focus range, the

all-new Ford Focus RS high performance model will be launched in 2009.

The newly designed Focus Coupé-Cabriolet with its retractable hardtop will once again

be manufactured at the Bairo plant of Pininfarina, Ford's partner in designing,

engineering and building the Focus Coupé-Cabriolet. This stylish vehicle is a true four-

seater that combines a high emotional appeal with "must have" means for everyday use:

With the roof closed, new Focus Coupé-Cabriolet offers a best-in-class luggage

capacity of 534 litres. Even with the retractable hardtop stowed in the boot, the new

Ford provides a voluminous 248 litres of luggage space under the folded roof.

Page 16: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 16 -

"As with the generic new Ford Focus, with the Focus Coupé-Cabriolet we also felt the

importance of aligning this charismatic vehicle with our 'kinetic design' language as

soon as possible," said Stephen Odell, Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service at

Ford of Europe.

'Kinetic Design' Styling

"The new Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet is a special blend: We felt that the new very

'kinetic' front end design will perfectly complement the timelessly-elegant, Italian

flavoured profile and rear end design. The result is a perfect mix of latest level Focus

dynamics and the special Coupé-Cabriolet design execution that we had already

developed jointly with Pininfarina," said Chris Bird, Design Director at Ford of Europe.

The entire front end design of the new Ford Focus was fully adopted for the

Coupé-Cabriolet: The new three-dimensional bonnet design flows harmoniously into

the iconic dual-trapezoidal-grille design, with both the upper and lower grille being

equipped with a classy chrome surrounding. The front bumper, lights and front fender

designs clearly reflect the latest dynamic Focus styling, but are also tailored to perfectly

fit the elegant side view of the Coupé-Cabriolet.

The interior styling of the new Focus Coupé-Cabriolet also received a fresh approach

with bold design statements, high quality finishes and hard-wearing materials all

completed with a high level of craftsmanship. Most prominent for the driver is a new

instrument cluster of a 'binocular' style with instruments illuminated in red.

As with the new Focus, the Coupé-Cabriolet also benefits from the flow through centre

stack to the standard 'premium' centre console with an increased stowage volume of

approximately 4 litres and a sliding armrest with a travel of 80 mm, both contributing to

increased comfort and convenience.

Page 17: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 17 -

New Technology

A number of new standard driver assistance features have been introduced on all new

Focus models with further technology options, and will also be introduced to the

Coupé-Cabriolet.

These features include:

• Available 'Ford Power' button for keyless start, plus keyless entry system

• Standard emergency hazard warning light activation system (Info: except

Finland and Sweden)

• New optional Tyre Deflation Detection System (DDS)

• New audio connectivity module for external devices and new levels of

Bluetooth® and USB connectivity, voice control and navigation systems

• New navigation systems include an affordable navigation option with

'SD' card slot as well as a DVD based system with 7" colour touchscreen

• Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) tuner on Sony radio system available

Powertrains and Series

A fine range of Duratec petrol and Duratorq diesel engines was chosen for the Focus

Coupé-Cabriolet: While the 1.6-litre 100 PS/74 kW Duratec petrol is the entry level into

the Focus 'wind-in-the-hair' experience, the well acclaimed 2.0-litre 145 PS/107 kW

Duratec HE engine is available with a choice of a sporty 5-speed manual transmission

or the very comfortable FN automatic transmission for relaxed cruising joy.

The 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine has 136 PS (100 kW) and a maximum torque of

320 Nm. To make driving with the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine even more refined

and comfortable, specific improvements have been made to its Sound quality and

vibration behaviour. This engine – along with all other Ford Focus petrol and diesel

engines – benefits from a new insulated, weight reduced cowl panel, for optimum

acoustics and a new carpet with a modified heavy duty coating for further sound

deadening.

Page 18: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 18 -

In terms of the series availability, the new Focus Coupé-Cabriolet is once again

available with a well equipped entry 'Trend' specification, which can also be ordered in

conjunction with a special 'Sport' pack, covering a sport suspension and specially

designed 17-inch alloy wheels. Black tinted headlamp housings on the exterior

emphasise the sporty appearance of this series.

The top-of-the-range 'Titanium' series also features exterior details like specially

designed 17-inch alloys and the black headlamp housings, but also classy interior items

like the standard partial leather seats. As an option, full leather seats in three different

designs are available.

High Safety Standards

A very stiff bodyshell construction and a precise suspension and steering tuning are the

active and solid base for the new Focus Coupé-Cabriolet's safety package. As a part of

Ford PrecisionDrive, it helps drivers to intuitively rely on their Ford car in any driving

situation. In addition to this very convincing package, ESP has now been introduced to

be standard in all European major markets, and complements the very capable four-disc

braking system with EBA.

The passive safety also starts with an ultra stiff bodyshell and a rigid passenger safety

cell. Without a regular sedan roof structure however, front crash load paths for the

Focus Coupé-Cabriolet had to be redistributed behind the A-pillars into the door

structure.

As a result, these load paths were significantly reinforced by using high strength HSS 2

steel and increasing the rocker height by 35mm. The load path through the door

structure can carry loads up to seven tons – comparable with the cumulated load

capability of a Focus four-door at the roof and door structures.

In addition to standard front and side airbags, Ford's new Rollover Protection Device

(RPD) system plays a vital role in increasing Focus Coupé-Cabriolet's passive safety

performance. RPD is designed to help protect passengers in the unlikely event that the

vehicle rolls over. Electronic sensors and a gyroscope are at the heart of the system, and

Page 19: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 19 -

can detect an impending rollover. When this happens, two ultra-strong safety roll bars

"fire" into position within a tenth of a second. Combined with the reinforced A-pillars

and the highly rigid front window frame, RPD is a reassuring device that provides

valuable extra protection for occupants.

FORD KUGA CROSSOVER BREAKS NEW GROUND FOR

FORD OF EUROPE

• Distinctive 'kinetic design' styling gives personality and presence

• Impressive on-road driving dynamics with substantial off-road ability

• Model range features 'intelligent' AWD and FWD systems and two distinct

series – Trend and Titanium

• Powered by Ford's acclaimed 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi 136 PS diesel engine

• Kuga delivers best in class intelligent AWD CO2 figure of 169g/km

The all-new Ford Kuga is Ford of Europe's first entry into the highly competitive

crossover market and promises a blend of rewarding on-road driving quality and

surprising off-road capability.

The genesis for Kuga was first seen in the dramatic iosis X Concept vehicle which

made its debut at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. John Fleming, the company's President

and CEO confirmed that Ford of Europe would be developing a production vehicle

inspired by the iosis X Concept for launch within two years.

At the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford demonstrated that this commitment was soon

to become reality with a preview of the production model. Signalling its significance as

a new direction for Ford of Europe, the new model was given its own name; the Ford

Kuga was born and destined to join the Ford of Europe model portfolio during the first

half of 2008.

"With the new Ford Kuga we are keeping the promise we made at Paris in 2006, and

delivering a highly capable, expressive and charismatic vehicle which will extend the

Ford model range further," said John Fleming. "I firmly believe Kuga will appeal to

many loyal Ford customers looking for something a bit different, but will also be

capable of repeating the success of S-MAX in bringing new customers to the Ford

Page 21: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 21 -

brand. A distinctive 'kinetic design' exterior, Ford's acclaimed on-road vehicle dynamics

and premium-like product quality are just some of the highlights Kuga will bring to this

fast-growing market segment."

Sound Foundation

The new Ford Kuga is based unashamedly on Ford's acclaimed C-car architecture –

well proven in both the Ford Focus and the Ford C-MAX.

"We have an established portfolio to use as a basis and our shared technologies

initiative within Ford Motor Company allows us even more possibilities to develop

niche vehicles like Kuga," said Gunnar Herrmann, C-Car Vehicle Line Director, Ford

of Europe.

Available with a proven powertrain and two series levels the full-time Haldex

intelligent AWD system is complemented by a front-wheel-drive (FWD) version that is

perfect for those drivers that are attracted by the style and presence of Kuga but do not

require AWD capability. The Ford Kuga is available in a choice of two distinct series

levels with further options available that enable the driver to personalise the car exactly

to their needs. The standard Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with combined Anti

Rollover Mitigation (ARM), and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

are just two of the significant driver assistance technologies of the new Kuga.

Taking a New Direction

The stylish and charismatic Kuga is a further demonstration of the exciting new

direction Ford of Europe's products are taking. The fresh and modern styling is the

starting point with the substance of the car matching this styling promise. This is

delivered by leading driving dynamics, a strong and competent safety pedigree, high

quality and craftsmanship and a competitive crossover package. A high seating position,

the intelligent AWD option and large stowage volumes make the Kuga a very attractive

proposition.

Page 22: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 22 -

"Kuga's arrival will raise the bar in the crossover segment," said Stephen Odell, Ford of

Europe's vice president for Marketing, Sales and Service. "Our 'kinetic design' styling

has given the car great personality and this gives it tremendous showroom appeal to

potential customers."

A carefully selected palette of ten body colours is available for Kuga. A specially

developed and brand new metallic colour – Chill – is available for both Kuga series

options and drive choices. As a reflection of its iosis X Concept roots the production

Kuga is available in two shades of white; solid Frozen White and a brand new metallic

Electric White. This colour was first seen on the iosis X Concept car and the pre-

production Kuga shown at Frankfurt. The Kuga is the first Ford of Europe production

model to use Electric White which uses a specialised application method.

The exterior design features of Kuga naturally incorporate a wealth of practicality that

provides much more than first meets the eye. The 'liftgate in liftgate' tailgate offers

maximum flexibility and convenience with separate access via micro switches to either

the upper tailgate section only or both sections simultaneously.

The materials chosen for Kuga's interior also demonstrate the close links to the

iosis X Concept. The eye-catching and lavish Kuga interior incorporates fine leathers

and gloss finishes on key areas that were first seen on the iosis X Concept car in piano

white but now have a choice of shades depending on the series chosen. Colour-matched

details of the interior design and integrated trim colours highlight the instrument panel

and door trims, creating a complete, unified look of design-led quality and premium

sportiness.

Kuga offers comfortable and spacious seating for up to five adults. The second row

seating has a 60/40 split and has been designed to fold completely flat to maximise the

usefulness of the available load compartment in two-seat mode. Underseat storage is a

practical feature beneath the second row with further storage under the floor of the

luggage compartment area which is divided into compartments to offer maximum

practicality.

Page 23: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 23 -

A luggage compartment sill height of 758mm aids the loading of heavy items into the

car. The Kuga has a generous luggage capacity of 1355 litres when in two-seat mode,

while the enclosed luggage compartment achieves a volume of 360 litres.

The Kuga offers customers two distinct series; Trend and Titanium. These have been

developed to provide a clear customer choice of a well-equipped cool and colourful

series – the Trend – and the modern, techno premium-feel Titanium.

Trend and Titanium series offer customers a wide range of equipment, technology and

styling options. They also provide a strong platform for further personalisation and

items to tailor the car exactly to each customer's needs. These needs are further-

enhanced and satisfied by the provision of dedicated Packs which provide additional

protection, transport, stowage, styling and aftersales products.

The Ford Kuga features some technologies first showcased on Ford's large and luxury

segment – and more recently seen on the new generation Ford Focus – while also

bringing new features to the segment and the Ford of Europe portfolio for the first time,

such as a 'liftgate in liftgate' tailgate.

Capability and Performance

The Kuga will be made available with a 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi 136 PS 100kW engine

mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Applicable to both FWD and intelligent

AWD derivatives the torque, performance and pulling power under all engine and

vehicle load conditions have been perfectly calibrated to the new Ford Kuga. This

engine provides high levels of torque – 320 Nm at 2,000rpm and 340 Nm in transient

overboost. FWD and intelligent AWD variants return favourable fuel economy figures

of 6.3 and 6.4 litres of fuel per 100 km respectively, using the combined fuel

consumption figures. The intelligent AWD figure of 169 g/km of CO2 is class-leading.

"Kuga has a 'can-do' attitude and 'go-anywhere' ability and the powertrain perfectly

plays its part." Said Herrmann.

Page 24: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 24 -

The Ford Kuga has been engineered for class-leading on-road driving dynamics and

exceptional off-road capabilities for expanded leisure time use.

Using proven and established Ford C-car chassis components and technology as a solid

basis, Ford's engineers tailored, tuned and calibrated each component and aspect of the

ride and handling to ensure Kuga carries the blue oval family pedigree for strong

driving dynamics.

The key overall target was to ensure that Kuga achieved the highest levels of ride,

handling, braking and steering performance within the segment. The all-new Kuga uses

many new systems and components in order to achieve the programme's targets.

The Ford Kuga joins a highly acclaimed and successful portfolio that is recognised for

its safety standards as being a key attribute. The first element contributing to Kuga's

safety is the stiff and rigid passenger cell designed and built to resist deformation. A

host of active, passive and dedicated pedestrian safety features further contribute to

Kuga's safety story. Integrated electronic systems including Trailer Stability Assist

(TSA) add to the Kuga's safety and instil driver confidence.

"We put a lot of resources into making our cars as safe as possible for our customers

and all other road users," adds Herrmann. "We employ a whole-vehicle holistic and

no-compromise approach."

Manufactured at Ford's Saarlouis plant in Germany the new Kuga will be built

alongside the new Focus three-door, five-door and wagon variants and C-MAX.

FORD EXTENDS LARGE CAR RANGE WITH NEW HIGH

PERFORMANCE DIESEL ENGINE AND ADDED SERIES

• Powerful new 175 PS 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi performance diesel engine

for Ford Mondeo, Ford S-MAX and Ford Galaxy

• Expressive new Titanium S series extends Mondeo and S-MAX customer

choice

• New 'techno' style Galaxy Titanium model complements the classic Ghia

series at the top of the range

Ford Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy customers now have even greater powertrain and

series choices with the launch of a new high performance 2.2-litre diesel engine and

sporty new versions of the popular 'Titanium' series.

Developed for performance, the new 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi is the largest displacement

and most powerful diesel engine available in Ford of Europe's passenger cars. It gives a

sustained 400 Nm of torque at 1,750rpm and 420 Nm of transient overboost provides

the necessary power for brisk and confident overtaking manoeuvres. Maximum power

of 175 PS is delivered at just 3,500rpm.

The engine has been developed and engineered by Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroën as

part of the longstanding co-operation on diesel engines between the two companies. In

its first applications with Ford, the engine has been specifically calibrated to provide

performance, quietness and smoothness of operation in the company's large and luxury

models – new Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy.

"Exceptional quality and reliability are an accepted fact when it comes to our

powertrains and this new engine is no exception," explained Nick FitzGerald, Chief

Programme Engineer, Large and Luxury Products, Ford of Europe. "The power and

torque available is equivalent to a much larger gasoline engine, but in diesel form gives

improved like-for-like fuel economy."

Page 29: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 29 -

New Unique Features

Delivering 400 Nm of peak torque – with a transient overboost of 420 Nm – the engine

boasts two new features that are unique to this engine in the Ford line-up: A third-

generation common rail and the turbo system with specifically-calibrated pedal

mapping.

Third-generation common rail

This high-tech engine features Bosch piezoelectric injectors with seven-hole nozzles

which use multiple injection capability and up to 1,800 bar of injection pressure.

Like other diesel engines in the Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy ranges, the diesel

injection combustion process of the 2.2-litre provides five injections per combustion

stroke. The time lapses between each injection are controlled electronically depending

on the rpm and engine load, engine temperature and air intake temperature.

This combustion process enhances the premium feel of the vehicle, as it makes the

engine very refined by reducing noise and vibration.

Turbo system and pedal mapping

A variable-geometry turbo ensures good efficiency and throttle response. Pedal map

sensors that are specifically calibrated give the driver a sensitive and responsive throttle

pedal feel, which contributes to an easy and convenient driving experience. The

turbocharger is calibrated to offer superb responsiveness at low revs and seamless

acceleration under part load conditions.

Good responsiveness at low revs contributes to good control in parking and

manoeuvring situations. As the engine is switched off a throttle shut-down system

lessens any vibration.

Performance and Emissions

The performance of this engine is demonstrated by its target acceleration figures; all

Ford models using this engine can reach 100 km/h from a standing start in less than ten

seconds.

Page 30: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 30 -

A fully optimised combustion system also contributes to reduced emissions. The

Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models using this engine respectively emit 165, 176 and

179 g/km of CO2. "Given the power and torque, and therefore the acceleration of this

engine, these figures are very reasonable indeed," said FitzGerald

The 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine is a Euro IV compliant engine equipped with a

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which is designed and manufactured for zero-

maintenance.

Uniquely, in Ford Motor Company products, the engine is equipped with an 'intelligent

oil condition monitoring algorithm'. The system was developed by Ford engineers and

is designed to ensure that the engine oil is maintained at optimal performance levels. An

information lamp in the instrument cluster illuminates when the system recommends

that the oil should be removed and replaced. This useful driver feedback is designed to

give superior engine reliability and durability by tailoring the maintenance of the engine

oil to the car's use. This is coupled to a 'variable' service interval of up to one year or

20,000km. Full technical specifications can be seen in the Technical Data section.

Sound Quality and Vibration

The best possible Sound Quality and Vibration (SQ&V) is an important aspect of all

Ford powertrains and the new 2.2-litre diesel engine is no exception. The engine is

fitted with balancing shafts to further diminish vibration.

Paired with Ford's acclaimed 6-speed Durashift manual transmission, this combination

offers a powertrain with lots of torque – maximum 400 Nm at 1,750rpm – something

that contributes to relatively few gear shifts and reduced driver fatigue. Twin pilot

injections for the combustion process simultaneously optimise emissions, fuel economy

and play a significant role in reducing the conventional noise of a diesel engine to

contribute to the most pleasant acoustic behaviour.

"Conventional diesel technology is by no means dated thanks to the actions we take in

developing the engines and calibrating them specifically to our range. Many drivers like

Page 31: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 31 -

the familiarity that a diesel engine gives them with the combined fuel economy, long

service life and reliability and modern refinements in our portfolio where this engine

will be available," explained Phil Lake, Chief Engineer, Powertrains, Ford of Europe.

Joint Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroën Development

"The development of this engine has joined the skills, experience and techniques of

engineers from Ford Motor Company and PSA Peugeot Citroën to achieve high goals

and objectives for this engine," said Steve Adams, Ford of Europe's Vehicle Line

Director for Large and Luxury cars. "Thanks to the utilisation of system engineering,

and modern digital simulation, a team comprising 200 people from both companies

have developed the engine in just three years. A further 300 people are now assigned to

the production of this engine."

New Sporty Titanium S series for Mondeo and S-MAX

The Mondeo and S-MAX ranges have been expanded by the introduction of a new

sporty Titanium S model. Based on the highly specified Titanium models, new features

and elements have been added to give both cars even greater styling presence and a

highly sporty character.

"The 'Titanium' series features and styling details complement perfectly the 'kinetic

design' elements of both vehicles, and with over 50 per cent of customers ordering this

series, we know it is a success," said Adams. "Now, with the sporty Titanium S we have

added more overt styling elements and features to create a new and individual series

derivative."

Exterior Styling

The Titanium S series is available on new Mondeo five-door and wagon bodystyles plus

the S-MAX.

A standard, full body styling kit gives the vehicles a unique and sporty look. Side skirts

and a rear spoiler are a standard feature on the S-MAX and are now offered as an option

on Mondeo, and are finished in body colour.

Page 32: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 32 -

The lower trapezoidal front grille situated in the body-coloured front bumper skirt has a

lower grille frame in a contrast colour of silver or anthracite, depending on the body

colour. The upper and lower grilles of the Mondeo Titanium S have a unique

honeycomb design for series differentiation. A new front fog lamp kit also features

bezels – on the Mondeo Titanium S models – in the contrasting shades. The body-

coloured rear bumper skirt incorporates an integrated diffuser in a contrasting shade that

surrounds the tailpipe finishers on the exhaust.

Tailored Technology

Standard sports suspension gives a 10 – 15mm lower ride height than the regular

suspension, and the set-up is unique, offering more stability over uneven surfaces, less

body roll and more direct steering thanks to the use of harder damper settings, stiffer

springs and suspension bushes. The Sports suspension complements the sporty nature

and agility of the Titanium S, as do the 18-inch alloy wheels.

For Mondeo Titanium S customers choosing the option of Interactive Vehicle

Dynamics Control (IVDC) with Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), the sports

suspension is not required and subsequently not fitted.

Ford's enhanced Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) is also fitted as standard to

Mondeo and S-MAX Titanium S models, and gives the driver the swivelling and

cornering headlight functions. Additional Titanium S features have been tailored to

each car line; the S-MAX, for example, gains privacy glass while the Mondeo acquires

a standard Ford Power start button.

Interior Styling

Soft-touch surfaces to key contact areas and the use of piano black and brushed

aluminium surfaces have already become a signature of the high quality materials and

craftsmanship of the established Titanium series. With the new Titanium S, further

detailed changes to interior components, materials and finishes give the passenger

compartments a sporty feel that is characteristic of the new series.

Page 33: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 33 -

A new 'Carbotex Sport' appliqué is used on the door spears and areas of the instrument

panel. Piano black surface areas have been extended forward to surround the

multimedia unit and in-car entertainment controls. The Sports seats are partially

trimmed in leather and red thread used in a running stitch frames and divides into

sections the seat squab and cushion.

The same red stitching is also applied to the gear shift gaiter, the armrest of the centre

console and – for the Mondeo Titanium S – the interior door panels. The leather

steering wheel trim has been divided into four areas and the positions where the driver's

hands would most naturally fall are finished in a special perforated leather trim which

extends around the toggle switches and thumb rests. Red stitching has been applied to

the inner radius of the steering wheel in a substantial diamond design. The interior look

is completed by black velour carpet mats that are edged by a red surround.

Further Personalisation

The Titanium S models still leave scope for customers to further personalise their cars

through the creation of an 'S Upgrade Pack'. Applicable to both Mondeo and

S-MAX Titanium S, customers can select aluminium pedal covers, HID

Bi-Xenon units in place of the AFS headlights and Alcantara seat trim in place of the

partial leather.

New Galaxy Titanium

Until now, the most luxurious Galaxy series available is the Ghia. The Galaxy Ghia

model features additional chrome exterior styling, a full length overhead centre console

and automatic headlights and windscreen wipers.

"Galaxy customers like the layout and technology that the car gives them but they have

also been telling us that they like the modern 'techno' and contemporary elements of the

successful Titanium series used in the Mondeo and S-MAX," said Adams. "What

appeals is the high level of equipment, the unique styling features such as the brushed

aluminium finishes, and the driver assistance features like the Ford Convers+ full colour

instrument display."

Responding to this customer feedback, a new Galaxy Titanium series is placed at the

same high level as the existing Ghia model in the range, and includes the same high

levels of standard equipment:

• Automatic headlights

• Automatic wipers with rain sensor

• 'Quickclear' heated front windscreen for most European markets

• Cruise Control

• Power operated and heated door mirrors with puddle lamps

• Rear air conditioning

In addition, the technology and driver assistance features are further enhanced by new

styling features; many of which will be familiar from existing 'Titanium' Mondeo and

S-MAX models.

The use of brushed aluminium in areas where chrome is used on the Ghia model and

machined 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels are the key exterior alterations.

Inside the Galaxy Titanium, sports seats finished in Alcantara trim and the integration

of privacy glass enhance the interior ambience while the standard fitment of the Ford

Convers+ display in the instrument cluster enhances interaction between car and driver.

Page 35: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 35 -

Ford's Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) headlights are fitted, equipped with lights

that swivel plus additional halogen cornering bulbs. Sports suspension has been added

to reinforce the sportier appearance of the exterior styling.

"We believe our customers will appreciate the detail touches made to the interior and

exterior of the Titanium S series in our large car range, the availability of the new

Galaxy Titanium as well as the performance of the new 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi 175 PS

engine." Said Adams.

AFFORDABLE TECHNOLOGY FOR TODAY AND

TOMORROW: FORD TARGETS LOW EMISSIONS

• Ford ECOnetic: Class-leading to amongst best in class ultra-low CO2 emissions

with high tech conventional powertrain technology

• Ford EcoBoost petrol direct injection turbo engines for the future will deliver better

fuel economy, lower CO2 emissions and superior driving performance from smaller

displacement engines

• Ford Flexifuel: Using renewable energy for low CO2 emissions. Ford of Europe

boosting its market leadership position by adding three new Flexifuel models to its

existing line-up

• Highly competitive CO2 performance from Ford's regular range of petrol and diesel

engines

• Product portfolio complemented by CNG/LPG vehicles in markets with supporting

fuel infrastructures

Ford of Europe's response to how mobility can be made more sustainable – today and

for the near future - can be seen at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The company is

showing a broad range of practical and affordable low-CO2 vehicle solutions.

"Sustainable mobility imposes a huge challenge for society and the automotive industry,

and there is still a long journey ahead of us," said John Fleming, Ford of Europe

President and CEO. "But technically viable and affordable ways to reduce the burden

on the environment without giving up basic needs such as personal mobility are

available immediately from Ford of Europe."

"Our near-term focus is the new Ford ECOnetic line of ultra-low CO2 emission cars and

our bio-ethanol powered Flexifuel vehicles, a technology for which we are a leader in

Europe and the market pioneer. Further out, we're working on a range of affordable

new petrol engines under the Ford EcoBoost name. These use a combination of direct

Page 41: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 41 -

fuel injection and turbocharging technologies to deliver better performance, emissions

and economy from smaller displacement engines."

"In addition to our dedicated lines of low-CO2 vehicles, our current standard range of

vehicles is highly competitive in terms of CO2 as well. This demonstrates how serious

we are in our commitment to reduce continuously the carbon footprint of our cars. And

this without sacrificing any of the other trademark qualities customers expect from Ford

vehicles: style through 'kinetic design'; excellent driving dynamics and dependability

throughout the lifetime of the vehicle," Fleming added.

Ford ECOnetic

The new Ford ECOnetic range of ultra-low CO2 vehicles offers an alternative to

customers who prioritise low emissions performance in their purchasing decision.

The name 'Ford ECOnetic' echoes the company's strategy to link ecologically advanced

and affordable technology to its kinetic design 'energy in motion' philosophy for both

driving quality and emotional styling.

The first Ford ECOnetic models to be launched in 2008 use a combination of the latest

common-rail diesel powertrains together with other carefully-selected features

engineered to reduce CO2 emissions to the absolute minimum.

This demonstrates that very favourable fuel consumption levels and significantly

reduced CO2 emissions can both be achieved using conventional drive technology,

coupled with a clever combination of individual, fuel-saving measures.

Page 42: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 42 -

The first model, available now, joins the company's most popular range. The new Ford

Focus ECOnetic delivers an average fuel consumption of just 4.3 l/100km. This

corresponds to a conventional powertrain best-in-class CO2 emission performance of

only 115g/km.

Using the already very economical regular 109 PS version with Diesel Particulate Filter

as a base, the starting point in achieving such values was to reduce drive resistances. To

improve aerodynamics, the vehicle was lowered by 10 millimetres at the front and 8

millimetres at the back. An aerodynamics kit is standard, consisting of a modified front

bumper skirt and rocker claddings and a rear spoiler.

To improve the aerodynamics further, the outer areas of the lower grille were given

blanking plates on the inside. In combination with low-rolling resistance 195/65R15

tyres, a very good coefficient of drag (cd) of 0.31 is achieved.

A further measure to reduce driving resistance also being used for the first time in the

Focus ECOnetic is the introduction of new low-viscosity transmission oil developed as

a result of the strategic alliance between Ford and its energy partner BP. Under testing,

the efficiency benefits were found to be so significant that this new BP transmission oil

is to be introduced across other Ford products in the C and CD segments.

The Ford ECOnetic vehicle portfolio has now been extended to include a sub-140 g/km

CO2 Mondeo ECOnetic and this will be followed by a sub-100 g/km CO2 model in

Ford's all-new Fiesta range.

The new Mondeo ECOnetic is equipped with 1.8 and 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engines

(depending on market), delivering 125 PS (92 kW) and 115 PS (85 kW) respectively.

The 2.0-litre TDCi 115 PS – available later in 2008 – is paired with a 6-speed manual

transmission and has a Diesel Particulate Filter. Its reduced power output for use within

Ford's ECOnetic portfolio has been engineered to provide favourable emissions.

Generic measures to achieve the low CO2 emission target are an engine re-calibration,

lowered suspension, low rolling resistance tyres, and aerodynamic improvements like

grille blanking inserts. In addition, different transmission ratios and the new low

Page 43: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

- 43 -

viscosity transmission oil contribute to this vehicle emitting less than 140 g/km CO2 on

average.

The Future: New Ford EcoBoost Technology

At the Detroit Motor Show in January 2008, Ford Motor Company announced that it is

working to introduce a new family of petrol engines called EcoBoost that will deliver

better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.

The Ford EcoBoost 4- and 6-cylinder petrol engines combine turbocharging and direct

injection technology, allowing for the downsizing of engine capacity but with improved

torque and performance. The technology will first be used in 2009 on Ford's 3.5-litre

V6 in North America in the new Lincoln MKS luxury sedan and Ford Flex. Other

vehicles will quickly follow as EcoBoost technology will be available on nearly all Ford

vehicles, from small cars to large SUVs and pickups.

With direct injection, fuel is injected into each cylinder of an engine in small, precise

amounts. Compared to conventional port injection, direct injection produces a cooler,

denser charge, delivering higher fuel economy and performance.

When combined with modern-day turbocharging – which uses waste energy from the

exhaust gas to drive the turbine – direct injection provides the best of both worlds: the

responsiveness of a larger displacement engine with fewer trips to the petrol station.

Compared with more expensive hybrids, EcoBoost builds upon contemporary,

affordable petrol engine technology and improves it, providing more customers with a

way to improve fuel economy and emissions without compromising driving

performance.

Ford of Europe is embracing this technology as part of its broad range of sustainability

initiatives and will introduce a new generation of petrol engines featuring EcoBoost

advanced direct injection technology over the next few years. Full details of timing, the

technical details of the engines, and the vehicles/series into which they will be

Page 44: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

introduced will be revealed closer to launch.

Ford Flexifuel

In adding the new Ford ECOnetic diesel derivatives to its extensive product line-up, the

company will offer customers across Europe a minimum of eight affordable choices for

environmentally friendly cars by the end of 2008 – three Ford ECOnetics, and five Ford

Flexifuel cars.

Ford of Europe is a leader in Flexifuel technology, which uses regenerative energy

sources produced from renewable biomass. From early 2008, Ford will offer one of the

broadest ranges of Flexifuel models in Europe, as it expands to include versions of the

new Ford Mondeo, the Ford S-MAX and the Ford Galaxy in addition to the existing

Ford C-MAX and new Ford Focus Flexifuel models.

All of Ford's Flexifuel vehicles can be fuelled with bio-ethanol E85 (a blend of

85 per cent bio-ethanol and 15 per cent petrol), or petrol, or any mixture of both fuels in

one tank, as an alternative to conventional petrol technology only.

The combined use of bio-ethanol as a fuel and Ford's Flexifuel technology can reduce

total life cycle ('well-to-wheel') CO2 emissions by between 30 per cent and 80 per cent

(depending on feedstock used and production process; source: EUCAR Concawe study;

vs. conventional petrol technology), without compromising performance and driving

quality.

Ford believes bio-fuels represent an opportunity to make mobility more sustainable and

welcomes European Union and individual EU government initiatives to create a

certification for sustainable production of bio-fuels.

CNG/LPG

Ford also offers selected models converted to run on LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas)

and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). These models are available in a number of

European countries where the fuelling infrastructure is available to support customers

Page 45: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

who choose this option.

Climate Change: Concerted Efforts Needed

Global warming is one of the biggest challenges facing society. Adding to the

complexity of this vast issue is the fact there is no single solution for addressing climate

change. The nature, size and urgency of global warming means a wide range of

stakeholders must embrace the problem in an integrated, coordinated way. Just as we

are all part of the problem, we must also all be a part of the solution.

For the automotive sector, this includes the vehicle manufacturers, the fuel industry,

governments and consumers.

"Whilst there is no single catch-all solution on the horizon, Ford is committed to

sharing in its responsibility to address the problem, as part of concerted, cross-societal

efforts," said Fleming. "We will continue working on a portfolio of environmentally

advanced vehicles and technologies to maintain momentum.

The main challenges are to continuously make our products more sustainable by further

reducing their environmental impact, whilst enhancing their value to society and

keeping our focus on efficiency and affordability."

"Ford Motor Company has been included in the last six consecutive (2002 to 2007)

Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, one of the key global references for companies

committed to economic, environmental and socially sustainable practices. Ford's

inclusion is a sign that the company is heading in the right direction with its strategy

and actions. However, we recognise the inherent challenge of continuous improvement

that our inclusion implies."

"In the near term, immediately available Ford ECOnetic and Flexifuel vehicles take us

another step along this journey, and over the next few years the introduction of a range

of Ford EcoBoost petrol direct injection powertrains for Ford vehicles around the world

will make our low CO2 portfolio even broader," Fleming concluded.

WORLD CHAMPION FORD SPORTS NEW LOOK FOR 2008 FOCUS RS WORLD RALLY CAR

• World Champion Ford adopts new look for 2008 WRC

• Striking colour scheme and new identity for Focus RS WRC

• 2008 driver line-up blends youth and experience

Ford of Europe has introduced an exciting new look for its 2008 FIA World Rally

Championship campaign. The Focus RS World Rally Car, which powered Ford to the

manufacturers' world title in both 2006 and 2007, sports a striking modern livery while

the squad will be named the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team for 2008.

The team also boasts a new driver line-up for the 15-round series. Mikko Hirvonen and

co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen have been joined in the squad by fellow Finns Jari-Matti

Latvala and Miikka Anttila, while Khalid Al Qassimi and Michael Orr have a 10-round

programme in a third works Focus RS WRC.

Ford of Europe's entire motorsport programme has moved under the control of new

motorsport director, Mark Deans but team director Malcolm Wilson will continue to run

the programme on a day-to-day basis through long-term partner M-Sport.

"The Focus RS WRC has a new, contemporary livery which blends perfectly with the

outlook of the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team," explained Deans. "This is our

first full season in partnership with BP and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and their

importance to our WRC programme is reflected in the team's new name and their

prominence on the car.

"Of course, there is far more to a successful WRC campaign than the colour of the car

and the name of the team. But since I took up my new role as motorsport director I

have seen enough to convince me that we are again capable of being fully competitive

in 2008. We have a dynamic, young driver line-up supported by one of the most

Page 47: EWS R ELEASE FORD AT THE 2008 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

enthusiastic and hard-working teams in motorsport at M-Sport and I look forward to a

year that I'm confident will be a successful one," he added.

This is M-Sport's 12th season as Ford's partner in the WRC and Wilson is excited by the

prospects for 2008. "In Mikko and Jari-Matti we have two young drivers who are

hungry for competition but also have experience that belies their years and I'm looking

forward to watching them develop further during the season. Abu Dhabi's Khalid Al

Qassimi has a comprehensive programme of 10 events in a third Focus RS WRC and I

hope to see him gain further in both experience and confidence during the year," added

Wilson.
