Everest Base Camp Yoga Adventure Trek April 16, 2012 to May 3, 2012

A Pilgrimage into the Himalayas

Calling adventurous yoga students everywhere who want to not only deepen their practice but also embark on a

transformational journey of self-discovery!

For the first time, the Everest Base Camp trekking experience will be offered with a unique twist, combining Eastern

and Western philosophies of Yoga, meditation and pranayama with the physical endurance of two weeks of trekking

and exploration in the highest mountain range in the world. Join other like-minded individuals with a spirit of

adventure for a once-in-a-lifetime experience as you hike through beautiful landscapes, visit historical and spiritual

monuments, and get to know the rich culture of the people who call this land home.

You will have daily asana practice along with meditation and group discussions to quiet the mind and to balance out

the strenuous nature of hiking. Throughout the trip, you will also have free time to explore various camp sites and

villages, engage in colorful dialogue with your fellow adventurers and locals. Discover your inner sanctuary as you

re-connect to nature and to those around you, and be inspired to live authentically, with compassion while pursuing

your own passions.

Upon arriving at Base Camp, we will engage in seva (selfless service) by doing a trash cleanup to restore the beauty of

Base Camp. Many trekkers before you have abused this wonderful place in nature and you can do your part by setting

an example for other trekkers to take responsibility for the places on this planet that we all share.

Warning: This trip may change your life, so get ready for an amazing adventure! All you need is to bring along an open

mind and heart. Let us do the rest.

Additionally, your journey will have a profound impact on the children of Nepal Orphans Home; a portion of your trip

cost will go towards supporting these children who have been sold or abandoned by their families. The money will

help provide food, shelter, and education for the children but more importantly, a real chance for success in their lives.

At the end of your journey, you will return to Kathmandu and have a chance to meet some of these children and truly

feel gratitude at all that life has to offer.

A Trek Introduction

The trek to Everest Base Camp is one of the most famous and popular in the world, taking you right into the heart of

the Nepalese Everest Base Camp. Nepal has 8 of the world's 14 highest peaks and is blessed with spectacular

mountains and vistas, justifiably famous not only for its proximity to the world's highest mountain but also for its

friendly people, picturesque villages, great variety of cultures and traditions, temples and monasteries. The Everest

trek is inside The Sagarmatha National Park, which is rich for its flora and fauna, and is the land of yeti, whose

existence remains a mystery…

Kalapathar 5,550m

Kala Patthar is a black mountain in the Nepalese Himalayan mountain range. It appears as a big brown bump below

the impressive south face of Pumori (7,161m / 23,494ft). Many trekkers in the region of Mount Everest will attempt

to summit Kala Patthar, since it provides the most accessible point to view Mt. Everest from base camp to peak (due

to the structure of Everest, the peak cannot be seen from the base camp). The views from almost anywhere on Kala

Patthar of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse are spectacular.

Trip grade: 4/Strenuous: This trek is strenuous. Maximum elevation is 5,550m (Kalapathar).

From the tiny airfield of Lukla the trail leads through Sherpa villages, Buddhist Monasteries, alpine forests of fir,

rhododendrons and across high suspension bridges meeting caravans of a yak-cow crossbreed along the way.

Namche Bazaar is a colorful, bustling market with traders from surrounding villages and as far as Tibet, and from

Tengboche. Beautiful views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam can also be seen from Namche. After

Dengboche the trekking is above the tree line, cross alpine pastures and glacial moraine to arrive at Base Camp. Base

Camp is located high on the Khumbu Glacier, where colorful expedition tents stand out in this desolate place

surrounded by rock, snow and ice.

Trek Highlights

Your Yoga Teacher

In her former life, Tingting Peng was a hardnosed investment banker and hedge fund analyst

living the Wall Street high life in Hong Kong. When she discovered her love for yoga, Tingting

quickly gave up the materialistic fast-paced lifestyle for the simpler yet more fulfilling life of a

yoga teacher. She has since trained in a variety of yoga styles, including Iyengar, Power

Vinyasa, and Yin, and is also registered at the 250 hour-level with the Yoga Alliance.

Currently based in Hong Kong, Tingting’s current teaching schedule sees her at the Four

Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong as a resident teacher when she is home and guest-teaching in

other parts of Southeast Asia and throughout North America when she is on the road. An

avid snowboarder, surfer, and intrepid outdoor adventure racer, Tingting often organizes and leads community

events to raise awareness for health & fitness, peace initiatives and environmental protection. A frequent contributor

to local and regional publications, Tingting has been featured by the Asian Wall Street Journal for her radical career

move from finance to yoga. Throughout her journey, Tingting is immensely grateful for her teachers, students, friends

and family who have all been inspirational forces in her life.

After traveling to Nepal on a Yoga for Freedom tour with some Cleveland yogis back in June, Tingting fell in love with

the kids at Nepal Orphans Home. Their big hearts and abundant joy for life inspired Tingting to share their stories, and

so she dedicates this adventure to them, for teaching her how to passionately laugh, love, and live.

Saturday market remains an important event bringing traders from villages a week's walk away. Nearly more than half

Everest , climb high on a ridge to 4000m past a large chorten at the village of Mong , said to be the birthplace of the saint Lama Sange Dorje, the reincarnate lama of Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet who introduced Buddhism to the Khumbu. From there descend to the village of Phortse Tenga by the Dudh Kosi (river). From Phortse the trail climbs steeply through forests of rhododendrons and then stands of juniper and large conifers as the altitude increases. You will pass through Sherpa kharkas (high pasture summer settlements used by Sherpas to graze their herds of yaks allowing their lower winter pastures to recover) and the villages of Tongba 3950m and Gyele 3960m to Dole. You have great views of Khumbila and Tawachee peaks throughout the day.
