COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRMANDr Ali Al-Meshari, Saudi Aramco

Dr. Ali A. Al-Meshari is the head of Upstream Research and Development in Saudi Aramco and the CEO of Saudi Aramco Upstream Technology Company. He has managed in various upstream departments including Reservoir Management, Simulation, Production Engineering, Operations, Strategic Analysis, and Research.

Dr. Al-Meshari is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, has chaired, and co-chaired several SPE symposiums, workshops and conferences. He was an Ambassador Lecturer and has been a Technical Editor for SPE Journal of Reservoir Engineering and Evaluation. He has received several awards and recognition from SPE, both at the local and international levels. Dr. Al-Meshari holds PhD and MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering and BS in Chemical Engineering.

Ahmed Aleidan, Saudi Aramco

Ahmed A. Aleidan is the Chief Technologist for the Strategic Technology Analysis Division in Saudi Aramco’s EXPEC Advanced Research Center. At this capacity, he also serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Saudi Aramco Upstream Technology Company (SAUTC) LLC. He is a certified Petroleum Engineer and holds a B.Sc. degree from Louisiana State University, a M.Eng. degree from the University of Adelaide in Australia, and a Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University, all in petroleum engineering. He is an active member in the society of petroleum engineers (SPE) and a member of the international honor society for petroleum engineers (Pi Epsilon Tau).

COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRMANMohammed Badri, Schlumberger

Dr. Mohammed Badri is the Managing Director of Schlumberger Dhahran Carbonate Research Center based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He manages the research and technology development of research portfolio and industrial collaboration projects between Schlumberger and the industry as well as academia. He holds B.Sc., Master and Ph.D. from the United States. He worked for King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between 1986-1990 as professor of Geophysics. In 1990, he joined Schlumberger Wireline and Testing and since then he has held several technical, operations and management positions in the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions. His research focus areas are on Carbonate Petrophysics, Seismic Imaging, Electromagnetic Measurements, EOR, and Geomechanics. He published and presented over 60 professional papers at technical conferences. He also holds 12 awarded patents and 18 applications. He serves on KAUST International Advisory Board. He also served on many SPE and Geo Executive and Technical committees.

Ali AlSumaiti, ADNOC

Dr. Ali AlSumaiti is an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Khalifa University for Science and Technology based in Abu Dhabi. He is currently involved in developing several State-of-Art petroleum engineering labs, ranging from core preparation to IOR/EOR, in the new ADNOC Research and Innovation Center (ADRIC) sponsored by ADNOC. He also serves as SCAL/EOR Specialist and an EOR R&D program manager in ADNOC. His main research interest is in the area of experimental and numerical modeling of IOR/EOR methods. He served several technical committees for many local and international conferences and workshops, including ADIPEC. He is a board member of the Abu Dhabi SPE chapter and a reviewer in SPE journal.

Bertrand Six, CGG

Bertrand Six (MSc Petroleum Geoscience, Imperial College of London) is Reservoir Characterization Group Manager Middle East for CGG GeoConsulting. After being involved in a variety of Seismic Reservoir Characterization projects in CGG head-office in France, including 4D seismic inversion on turbiditic reservoir, Deep exploration project offshore West Africa; Bertrand joined the Abu-Dhabi team in 2012 to focus on mature carbonate fields. He implemented innovative workflows for seismic interpretation, fault/fracture characterization and also studied 4D feasibility for different EOR scenarios onshore Abu-Dhabi.

Hiroshi Hagiwara, ADNOC

Hiroshi works for ADNOC since 2011. He received B.Eng (1989) and M.Sc (1991) in geophysics from Tokai University. His early time in the industry involved various seismic works at JAPEX, JGI and JODCO in Tokyo. In 1995, after his secondment to ADMA-OPCO in Abu Dhabi, he devoted to R&D projects at JNOC (today’s JOGMEC). In 1998, he was again seconded to ADMA-OPCO for 7 years and had managed world-class offshore 3D seismic projects. In 2009, after various technical works at INPEX in Tokyo, he worked for INEPX/JODCO Abu Dhabi office. His interests include carbonate reservoir geophysics and geophysics project management.

Smeer Al Kilani, ADNOC

Graduated from the University of Oklahoma, a Senior Reservoir Engineer currently in ADNOC since he joined in Mid-2003. Worked on numerous offshore and Onshore Fields through his career assignments to ZADCO and ADCO and in which he was exposed to different new development concept plans in ABUDHABI reservoirs. Started from Upper Zakum with the reservoir development team to optimize new scenarios and deliver the WVA well value assurance economical and well performance analysis documents for the well prognosis utilizing simulation. He has joined ADCO at BQ/Huwaila reservoir surveillance team and later the Gas Asset recycle team where he was supervising reservoir management and monitoring plans & strategies along with execution, monitoring the wells and recommending new development plans as required to meet the production target, as well as monitoring EOR projects such as HC gas injection and N2 injection in Bab field. While in ADNOC, he has been involved with CO2 pilot plans in the EOR team and he is currently handling the reservoir management tasks to follow up on onshore fields where he is participating in different development projects to secure the mandate gates.

Yingcheng Li, SINOPEC

Yingcheng Li is a senior expert at Sinopec and head of Sinopec key lab of surfactants for EOR and director of oil field chemicals division of Sinopec Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology. The first part of his career concentrated on R&D of new heterogeneous catalysts for petrochemical process from 1997 to 2007. He is focusing on the development of new surfactants for enhanced oil recovery since 2008. He has published more than 50 papers in technical journals and is a co-inventor for more than 150 patents. He holds a PhD degree in physical chemistry from Fudan University, China.

Hong Cao, PetroChina

Hong Cao is currently chief geophysicist of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development (RIPED), CNPC, and director of The Key Lab of Geophysics, PetroChina. He received his BS (1993) and MS (1996) degrees from Chengdu University of Technology, China, and Ph.D. (1999) degree from RIPED. His main research interests in geophysics include seismic rock physics, quantitative interpretation, hydrocarbon detection and integrated reservoir characterization. Outside CNPC, he served as a Youth Committee member for WPC 2007-2012, and chair of Chinese National Youth Committee for WPC 2009-2012. He is also one of the main founders of rock physics society in China.

Laurent Bourdon, Shell-PETRONAS

Laurent Bourdon is currently working with PETRONAS Research after heading Geophysics at PETRONAS Shell EOR Centre in Kuala Lumpur for 3 years. Following 2 years mining work in Dominican Republic and a Doctorate from Paris University, he joined Shell in 1985 and worked around the globe: UK, Turkey, Brunei, Nigeria, Netherlands, Malaysia and Australia. From day one with Shell, he specialised in advanced geophysical studies and development of innovative seismic interpretation techniques. His motivation for geophysical and seismic interpretation new technology has associated his name with a long list of “Firsts” in oil and gas projects for over 31 years.

Huimin Hao, BGP-CNPC

Mr. Hao has been employed by China National Petroleum Corporation (‘‘CNPC’’), China’s largest oil company, and its affiliates in various positions of increasing responsibility since 1984. Since 2006, Mr. Hao has been Chief Geophysicist of BGP Inc., China National Petroleum Corporation (‘‘BGP’’). From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Hao was assistant President of BGP, and from 2002 to 2004, he managed the marine department at BGP. From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Hao was manager of Dagang Geophysical Company, Dagang Oilfield, CNPC. From 1984 to 2000, Mr. Hao gathered experience in geophysical technology research and development, particularly in seismic data processing and seismic data acquisition system research and development management.

Jan Paul, OMV

Jan Paul received a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from University of Erlangen, Germany in 1998 and a Ph.D. in Technical Chemistry from Vienna University of Technology in 2000. He has been working for 5 years as Technology Manager at OMV in Vienna. Among his responsibilities are the development and implementation of the global technology strategy for OMV Upstream. One of the focus areas are EOR technologies. Prior to his current position he worked as a Field Development Manager and Manager of Treatment Plants in OMV’s operations in Austria.

Maitham Ebrahim, Kuwait Oil Company

Maitham Ebrahim has ben working for Kuwait Oil Company since 2001 and became senior geophysicist in 2009. He received his BSc in geology from Kuwait University in 2000 and his MSc in geophysics from Heriot-Watt University in 2008. Maitham worked mainly in seismic data interpretation supporting exploration and oil fields development. In 2009, he joined Seismic Reservoir Characterization Team within the company and carried out seismic inversion projects using different techniques such as deterministic and probabilistic inversion as well as petrophysics and rock physics projects for seismic inversion. He is currently working in Seismic Data Acquisition Team.

Talal Al-Aulaqi, Petroleum Development Oman

Talal Al-Aulaqi is the senior reservoir engineer in the Enhanced Oil Recovery Team in Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). At this capacity, he also serves as Well Reservoir facilities Rnegineer (WRFM) engineering for Amal thermal EOR operation in the South of Oman. He is also a visiting lecturer in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the principal investigator for polymer EOR research and development. Talal is a certified Petroleum Engineer and holds a a Ph.D. degree from University of Leeds, in fluids dynamics. He is the technical director for SPE Oman Section and member of SPE EOR technical committee.

Andrey Bakulin, Saudi Aramco

Andrey Bakulin is geophysical consultant EXPEC Advanced Research Center of Saudi Aramco. After PhD in geophysics, Andrey had a brief academic career followed with work at Schlumberger Cambridge Research, Shell Bellaire Technology Center, and WesternGeco. Andrey was involved in development of many technologies. He co-developed the Virtual Source Method. He developed a method and system to monitor well completions with tube waves. Currently, he implements onshore seismic monitoring with buried receivers in carbonates. He served SEG as Distinguished Lecturer and has received a variety of professional awards, including Honorable Mention and best presentation at an SEG Annual Meeting (twice), Honorable mention Best Paper in GEOPHYSICS (twice), the J. Clarence Karcher Award, and a 2007 E&P Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation.

Emmanuel Delvaux, Schlumberger

Emmanuel Delvaux is the Marketing and Sales Vice President for MEA, based in Dubai. He began his career with Schlumberger in 1996 as an Early Production Facilities (EPF) project engineer, in Clamart, France. He then had several positions in Technology Development, Sales and Operations across the Middle East, Asia, North Africa and Europe regions. Prior to his current position, he was appointed in 2008 as Vice President Marketing and technology for the Reservoir Characterisation Group and was assigned to his present role in August 2016. He has a BSc in mechanical engineering and an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing System management, both from Kingston University in the UK. He is an active SPE member, contributed with several papers, participation to workshops and panel speaker.

Qasem Al Kayoumi, ADNOC

Qasem Al Kayoumi is the Technical Center Manager in Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (ADNOC) Upstream Directorate. He is in charge of ADNOC R&D, Subsurface Technology, Upstream Information Management, Operation and Project Excellence. Before this role, he served as an Offshore Manager for ADNOC. He joined ADNOC in 1985 as Petroleum Engineer and since then he has worked in various departments in Abu Dhabi Marine oil company (ADMA), Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations (ADCO) and Zakum Development Company (ZADCO). His long career includes Drilling, Reservoir Management, Reservoir Simulation, Field Development, Business Planning, and Field Operations. He is an active member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, serving as Chairman of Abu Dhabi section in 1993-1994 and contributing to various local and regional forums and Applied Technology Workshops. He holds a BSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California, United States.

Murat Zeybek, Schlumberger

Murat Zeybek is a Schlumberger Reservoir Engineering Advisor and Global WL Reservoir domain expert based in Saudi Arabia. He has published more than 50 papers on interpretation of wireline formation testers, pressure transient analysis, interference testing, sampling heavy oil, numerical modeling of fluid flow, segment models, fluid flow in porous media, water control, production logging and reservoir monitoring. He is a global mentor in Schlumberger. He is a technical editor for the SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering, Canadian Journal of Petroleum Technology, and Journal of Petroleum Engineering science. Murat also served as a committee member for the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1999-2001. He has been a discussion leader and a committee member in a number of SPE Applied Technology Workshops (ATWs), including a technical committee member for several SPE Saudi Technical Symposiums. Murat received his B.S. degree from the Technical University of Istanbul, Istanbul, Turkey, and his M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree both from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, all in Petroleum Engineering.

Wael Abdallah, Schlumberger

Wael Abdallah joined Schlumberger in 2005 as a research scientist in Edmonton, Canada and currently manages the Geology, Rock Physics and Recovery Research program at Schlumberger Carbonate Research Center in Saudi Arabia. Prior to this assignment, Wael was managing commercial services related to reservoir fluid and flow assurance and provided NeXT technical training on Reservoir Fluids. Wael holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (2005) from the University of Alberta majoring in Heterogeneous Catalysis and Surface Science. He also holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology majoring in fluid thermodynamics. Wael received the Alberta Ingenuity Award in 2005. He has more than 33 journal publications and 6 granted patents.

Olaf Huseby, Restrack

Olaf Huseby is VP Technology & Interpretation and one of 12 co-founders of the tracer service provider Restrack, a spin-out from the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology (IFE). He holds a PhD in Reservoir Physics from the University of Oslo (Norway) and joined IFE after PhD and PostDoc studies in Poitiers and Paris. Olaf has 15+ years research and consultancy experience in reservoir and tracer studies, focusing on interpretation of inter-well and single well tracer data. He has published more than 40 scientific papers, and co-organized and co-chaired several SPE workshops on reservoir and tracer technology.

Richard Smith P.E, Gaffney-Cline & Associates

Richard Smith is a Principal Advisor for Gaffney-Cline and Associates in the UK. He has over 40 years’ experience working in various world locations. Prior to his current position, Mr. Smith was the Reserves Manager for five years for Maersk Oil in Copenhagen Denmark. From 2003 to 2009, he worked in Abu Dhabi for ADMA and ZADCO on Lower and Upper Zakum as a senior advisor and a compositional and black oil simulation specialist, and in Kuwait North Fields as an expert on best practice reservoir management. Twelve years in Venezuela focused on field development and high pressure miscible gas floods after extensive experience in the USA in miscible gas floods. He has a number of papers published in the SPE and SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering Magazine. He is a registered engineer in the State of Colorado, a member of the SPE and a recent board member of the European Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers. He is an active tennis player and plays the guitar.

Liu He, Petrochina

Dr. Liu He has worked in petroleum industry for more than 35 years. Now he is Vice Chief Engineer, Professorate Senior Engineer at Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development. He has spent most of his career in research on oil and gas exploration and production engineering. He made significant contribution on several areas, such as layered water injection and wellbore control technique, stimulation and modification technique and efficiency improvement of oil production system. He received two Regional Awards with Distinguished Service Award in 2005 and Production Engineering Award in 2007 from Society of Petroleum Engineers.
