New mantra in marketing nowadays -
“If content is king, then context is emperor.”
iBeacon technology facilitates the context awareness in
mobile apps and customised notifications are made as per
preferences and activities of consumers.
1. Beacons are small smart objects sending out
bluetooth low energy (BLE) signals
2. Can be easily installed on the walls of event
venue
3. Beacon compatible apps like Event2Mobile
detect signals and receive notification
4. iBeacon is the trademark for the beacon
technology developed by Apple, Inc.
5. Well supported in both iPhones and Android
devices since version 4.3

Push notification stating the right door for entry.
Beacons sending
personalised welcome
message on entry.
Notifications depend on
proximity. Near the beacon -
“Looking for data management
software? Come to Booth 1.”
Far from the beacon -
“Looking for data
management
software? You are
just some steps away
from Booth 1.”
Use of beacons is the latest marketing trend in retail stores, events and exhibitions.
Popular festivals/events where iBeacon functionalities recently used:
1. Customised event related notifications like current sessions, floor
maps, stall locations
2. Push notification is automated when necessary proximity is
triggered
3. A great boon in large floors where GPS is often unreliable
4. Exhibitors can promote stalls through beacons instead of using
paper
5. Impact on mobile battery for iBeacon scan is minimal as per
studies
6. Number of attendees visiting particular stalls and sessions can be
determined
7. Hyperlocal attendee behaviour can be understood
8. Floor plan analytics
9. Attendee preferences can be gauged
10. Audience engagement can be enhanced and monitored
1. Gamification appeals to the competitive spirit of the people
2. Leaderboard motivates to engage in activities to gain points
3. Integrating gamification with iBeacon facilitate better audience
engagement
4. iBeacon and event app can be used for games like scavenger
hunt or treasure hunt. Beacons send alert with clues about
different steps of the game and in this way, attendees can have
fun and win prizes
1. It is important to get feedback in real-time allowing organisers to
make changes in programme if necessary
2. Event planners can get feedback about sessions through event
app and beacons
3. Beacons can send alerts asking the attendees to rate the session
or take part in the online poll through event app
4. Event2Mobile app allows audience to give instant feedback
through rating, polls and event survey module
1. Event and iBeacon help in better collaboration between audience
and speakers/organisers
2. Event2Mobile app let attendees to post their questions to the
speakers and the organisers
3. Session related question to the speakers posted at the Session
module
4. Questions through app gives the flexibility to the speakers to
answer them later
5. Event related question in Event Q/A module is received by the
back end team who answers them
1. Attendees can network among themselves with help of event
apps and iBeacon technology
2. Beacons can send alerts about buzziest sessions, popular
speakers and interesting activities
3. Event apps allow attendees to find people with similar
preferences and interact through app messaging system
4. Event2Mobile has Networking, Social Wall and Photo Wall
modules for better interaction and audience engagement
Event2Mobile - Networking Module
The Networking module allow users to find
attendees who have registered in the event
app. Delegates are auto-matched based on
personal preferences. Attendees can view
contact details of others and can message
each other within the app.
Event2Mobile - Photo Wall
Photo Wall allows users to take pictures within the app,
customise them and share them with admin so that these
photos can shared over large projected screens, custom photo
feeds and the events’ social media platforms.
Event2Mobile - Social Wall
Users can create posts, upload photos, make comments, like
or share posts and even create hashtags on the Social Wall
within the app. The Social Wall module is a great platform for
networking and collaboration with other delegates.
1. Do not spam your attendees with constant notifications from beacons
2. Place beacons judiciously. Venue entrance, exhibitor stall entrance, halls
where discussions are held are some places to keep beacons
3. Develop two variations of each message to avoid repeating same thing over
and over again
4. Sent online materials (notes, audio) through push notifications
5. Keep spare beacons during event as few of them can stop functioning
6. Choose beacons according to aesthetic of event venue
7. Keep spare batteries for charging beacons or use USB enabled beacons
