Question 3 – What have you learned from
your audience feedback
Audience Research
Originally to find our specific target audience we used
a general questionnaire and handed it to a variety of
different individuals. We asked general questions at
the beginning of the questionnaire such as ‘what
gender are you?’
Audience ResearchWe then went on to ask more specific questions, surrounding the Urban Drama genre
We asked everyone what they would prefer to see in a trailer, in order to assure what they like and what they don’t like, and see what we should include in our own trailer. As suspected “Action Scenes” was the general number 1 choice along with “Fast Pace Music” however a unique answer that ‘us’ as a group didn't’t expect came up a number of times “Depends on the Genre”, we as a group immediately related this to our soon to be filmed ‘Urban Drama’ Trailer, and realized that what ever we film and the sound we use and everything else basically defines the genre of the trailer, and whether it is a successful trailer or not.
We then questioned people on what colours they associate with an Urban Drama film. By doing this we could truly make our trailer look like an urban drama trailer, as we would use the top colours voted for in our trailer through Mise-en-Scene(e.g.. A black and white/grey snapback hat) This will allow the audience to watch our trailer and immediately feel and know that the genre of the film is an Urban Drama.
Audience Research We also asked people from a list of different Urban Drama films, what one the have seen and ‘LIKED’ we purposely said which one they LIKED so we could see the top Urban Drama films and focus on the aspects they include in their films and even trailers. Kidadulthood was the clear number one favourite, we also allowed people to write down any other urban drama films that were not listed, so that we did not restrict there options.
The next question we asked people was what they thought they would typically expect to see in a Urban Drama Poster, by doing this we could use the results to improve and make sure our own Film Posters are as professional looking as possible using the results from the questionnaire. The top results were knifes/guns and hoodies, which was a typical answer as it shows the most obvious conventions of an urban drama film poster, which made it clear to us that the audience like to see a film poster that is obvious to its genre.
Audience Research We added the question, ‘would you prefer watching a trailer before watching the actual film and why?’ this allowed us to see not only if people liked to watch trailers, but to see if people base the opinion of a film on the trailer. The top result came up as Yes and generally ‘to see what the film is about’ came up a few times, with this information we realized that our trailer should definitely tell a story but without giving away too much, in other words leaving the audience wanting more, and we tried implementing this idea into our film trailer.
Lastly we asked People ‘How do you usually find out when a new film is going to be released?’ by doing this we discovered the most popular form of Networking/Marketing/Spreading the news of your Film, the number one choice came up as a draw between Television and Internet the obvious reason, being that these are the two most used forms of media, but as a surprise to us, as a group, nobody picked ‘Word of Mouth’ which we found ironic as some of us have herd of
films mainly through word of mouth especially with very popular films.
Trailer - Feedback
We received many opinions on our finished
trailer from a range of different people, from
teachers to classmates and even strangers
through YouTube’s comment system.
Trailer - Feedback
We first got our initial feed back from our class
mates when we showcased our early footage
back in February, discussions and comments
made can be listened to below in mp3 format.
Trailer - Feedback
• Throughout the process of filming and editing
we also received feedback from our class teacher
who was very helpful in giving honest opinions
on what we have done and what we should do to
improve, in order to get a higher grade and was
brilliant feed back as it allowed us to make our
trailer look a lot more impressive.
Trailer - Feedback
• Once we finished publishing our completed
trailer to YouTube we promoted the trailer so
that it was seen by strangers across the world
and they were able to comment and give their
opinions and was great feedback
