In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real media products.

Page 2: Evaluationss

My magazine is in some ways a lot like other magazines and in other ways not like other music magazines. The colour schemes challenge the forms of other magazines because it is quite unusual to see almost all black background with just neon colours, but I think it is good because it appeals to my audience and stands out. I think the language is very different to other music magazines as it uses a lot of slang and words that may be slightly offensive, for example the word “birds” for females may challenge the normal forms and conventions of other magazines, but I think uses this type of terminology is really suitable for my magazine as its what my audience can relate to and gets them interested. I think the layout is a lot like other music magazines as the text and pictures are all in similar places to where you would usually find them in music magazines, mostly mid shots, but I think some of the pictures you wouldn’t find in normal magazines for example a picture of people kissing is not something you would usually find in other music magazines but it appeals to this type of audience, also the pictures are of the artist being interviewed which is common among music magazines. Also the text aren't in any unusual places so this is a lot like other magazines, I think this is good because it needed to be a simple layout and easy to navigate through. I think the fonts aren't that different and they are very easy to read so I think that is similar to other music magazines as all magazines try to have simple fonts that are easy to read. I think my magazine has very different styles and attitudes to other magazines may it be due to the language or just the general mood of the magazines, how it is not perfect suits the audience and that’s the style of the audience and the attitude toward things lie women are very different to some people but suitable for my audience.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Page 4: Evaluationss

A media Institution is any of the organisations responsible for the production, marketing, distribution or regulation of media texts. Some of the top media institutions include the Walt Disney company, news corporation, cbs corporation and sony.

https://www.sonyatv.com/en-uk/http://www.newscorp.com/ I have looked at

different publishers for music magazines and have decided that Development Hell Ltd would be the best publisher for my magazine.

I have looked at different publishers for music magazines and have decided that Development Hell Ltd would be the best publisher for my magazine.

They publish Mixmag, and the word magazine, mixmag is the worlds best selling club/dance magazine

Page 6: Evaluationss

I have chosen this because it only publishes 2 magazines at the moment so I think it has a big gap for my magazine. Also it already publishes Mixmag magazine and this has some similarities to my magazine, so aswell as knowing they would accept my magazine, it also will rule out any competitiveness that would happen if I chose a different company. also the fact that Mixmag is a best selling magazine, this means this company must be good at marketing this type of magazine, so would also be able to do this with my magazine.

My magazine could be extended by having its own website, so the readers could go online and listen to the songs featured in the magazine or watch interviews ect. It could also have its own tv channel, with all the songs featured in the magazine and more, clubland tv would be a competitor. It could also host gigs with all that style of music concerts ect.

In what way does your product represent particular social groups

Page 8: Evaluationss

Social groups include ethnicity, age, class, and gender. I think my magazine shows a strong representation of class, age, and gender as I think it is very different to how a music magazine for middle aged adults would be.

Ethnicity: I think my magazine doesn’t really represent a certain ethnicity but id say the majority of the audience would be white British or black, as that’s the genre of music its targeted for, I don’t think it represents an Asian community just because I don’t believe many Asians listen to this sort of music and in many cases my audience can be racist against these ethnic groups so just avoid them and everything they do, like their music.

Class: I think my magazine says a lot about the class of the people reading, from the language and use of slang it clearly represents a working class social group, and I think this music is that of the working class, and in a lot of the songs they talk about their bad upbringing and getting in trouble with the law and drug and acholohol use, and in my magazine there is pictures of this social group oviously being drunk, or in a club, which is what my audience typical spend there time doing, so I think my magazine really rperesents the working class group.

Gender: my magazine represents both men and women of this social group, but mostly men, the language towards females in my magazine is often slang and not very complimenary, for example the word “birds” is typicaly what a yung male of this class would call a women, so I used that in my magazine to relate to them and represent the male gender more.

Age: in my magazine I think there are many representations of age. My magazine is aimed at young people in their late teens, and I think you can easily tell this just by looking at my magazine, the colours like the neon's and bright colours I think represent my audience well as the neon suggests youngness and clubbing and things like this, things that are comment among this social group, also the language is often very slang and I think an older person could struggle to understand which is what my magazine represents, how older people don’t “get” them. And all of the pictures are of young people so my magazine obviously represents the younger generation.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Page 11: Evaluationss

What I used: software- photoshop, powerpoint, word, blogger, blackboard, slideshare, youtube, surveymonkey, google

hardware-camera, phone, computer, laptop, mac, memory stick.I could of done without things like blackboard and things that

helped me, also youtube, and word as I could of just written straight onto my blog, I couldn’t of done without most of these things especially photoshop, google, and obviously a pc or mac, using all these things made everything easy and quick and also gave me skills for later life. The negatives of using technology is that sometimes work could of disappeared or not being saved or the computer could of crashed.

Page 12: Evaluationss

Who would be your target audience for your magazine?

Page 13: Evaluationss

My target audience is working class late teenagers or early adults, 16-21, mostly males, who are just looking for a magazine that they can relate to, their hobbies will be going clubbing, getting drunk and antisocial behavior.

Page 14: Evaluationss

How do you attract and address your audience

Page 15: Evaluationss

I think I attract and address my audience very well, mostly through the forms and conventions.

I used language to attract my audience as I used slang which they can relate to and understand

I used the colours that are used among that genre of music which are the bright neon colours against back background. I also think the colours would attract the audience as they are very bright and make my magazine stand out from other magazines

I also think the pictures attract my audience and address them as all the pictures are of people in there social group and therefore very relatable.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you think you have learnt in the progression from it to your final product.

Page 17: Evaluationss

Before we started our final product we were asked to create a mock up magazine, a college magazine to let students in on revision tips and let them know what's going on in college, to understand what kid of level of creative and other skills we need for the final product we were asked to create a front over and a contents page. I learnt a lot of skills that came in useful with my music magazine, things like flan plans, mock ups, planning sheets, planning photography, layout design and writing planning. This all came in useful because I was able to understand why it as useful and how planning really benefits the final product, I learnt skills of how to use photoshop properly, in my own time and in class time I gradually built up the basic skills and progressed. This really helped me because when it came to doing my final product I was able to put the design I had in mind onto the real magazine with things like the different graphics like the glow effect an drop shadow effect I wanted I was able to use this on Photoshop easily. For the college magazine I only knew a few skills like cropping, free transforming and changing the colours, but when it came to my final product I progressed to using text graphics, opacity, adjusting, layers ect. I learnt a lot of skills during the process that will benefit me in later life.
