PRELIMINARY TASK OVERVIEW❖For the preliminary task I had to create a front cover and a contents page based on Salford city college. Here I represent some of the photos I taken in preparation.

Page 3: Evaluation.pptx 2 new

Preliminary task

Slightly followed the Gutenberg design principle

The cover lines are along the side

The masthead is along the top

The model credit isn’t clear.

The colour scheme doesn’t match.

Very few styles of font

Photoshop

❖Since this task I have learned new techniques using many different software especially in photo-shop. These skills insisted of learning how to delete unwanted background using the magic wand tool and making sure all the colours matched using the eyedropper tool.

Research

❖For my final magazine I researched magazines which reached my target audience and has the me genre of music as mine, the magazines I looked at were NME and Q as these were the most popular indie magazines in the UK.

Q Research

❖I then decided to analyse these magazines and got inspiration from some of the elements they have used and incorporated them into my own work.

I liked how the magazine has used the Gutenberg principle such as the columns down the side are clear and stand out. I also like how the magazine has an ‘every month’ section as I think that this keeps the reader engaged and committed to the magazine.

I also like how the magazine has a main image to attract the reader and make it clear on what genre of magazine it is before looking any further.

I think the bottom section stands out to readers as it is more of an insight into other bands and more information about what’s inside the magazine.

Comparison

I have definitely improved since my preliminary task as the colour scheme now has improved.

The mastheads are similar although I have used a font which is more suitable for the genre of my magazine and makes it look more professional.

I have decided to put the model credit in the centre of the magazine as I feel this would attract the reader and looks more obvious what genre of magazine it is. It also improves the Gutenberg principle.

I also decided to separate the cover lines to make the magazine look more professional and less cluttered.

Developed skills

❖I have also learnt how to section of certain parts of the image so you do not need all of the image on the cover which can make it look overpowering I also have learned how to make the colour shade match for example the two reds being the same shade.
