Th is pape r e valuate s th e ability of a low cos t w ire le s s m e s h ne tw ork to provide Inte rne t acce s s to a rural are a in South Africa w ith lim ite d broadband conne ctivity. Th e ne tw ork w as ins talle d in a m ountainous are a w ith a w ide range of dis tance s be tw e e n node s ranging from long range 5.5k m link s to s h ort h ops be tw e e n buildings of only 30 to 50m .
