EvaluationQuestion 2How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

For my main media product I created a music video to the song ‘Fever’ by Carly Rae Jepsen. In this music video I used significant locations, objects etc. that also reflect upon my ancillary tasks.

Across my 3 products, the music video, magazine poster and digipak I needed to create a unified representation of my music artist. The aim was to promote my artist the way she would be represented in the real music industry.

All 3 products would possibly be made by the same company - the artist’s record label, the label will

construct a music artist and represent them in a way to gain popularity. Due to being produced by one

company the print products and the music video will have continuity, present similar styles and media

language.

To create my promotional package I have used media language to link all the products together. Strong colourconnotation was one of the main aspects of continuity for me, I chose the colourpink to represent my artist in a girly way. I picked pink text to use in my print products, this text overlaid photographs of my artist wearing a pink jumper, covered in pink and purple smoke.

Furthermore, the colours red and pink are prominent throughout the video as I aimed to create a constant theme of

love/heartbreak, which is primarily connoted by these particular colours. Moreover, I used natural daylight in all

3 products to give them a realistic and genuine look.

Within my music video, for the final scene I used a wide outdoor location that featured a lot of greenery. The large, open space represented

her freedom by the end of the song and I also used this location for the photos featured in my digipak and magazine advertisement. She has

the same wig and clothes on as she does in the music video so the audience will be able to clearly link the the three products together.

One of Andrew Goodwin’s theories of music videos is that they feature the ‘notion of looking’. Up-close shots are very prominent throughout

my music video and I further emphasised that I really wanted to promote who my artist was and what she looked like through the

images on my digipak/poster only being of my music artist.

In my video the artist can be seen throwing around coloured powder and letting off colouredsmoke, which is also shown in the photoshoot I did for my digipak and poster as the artist’s face, clothes and wig are covered in colouredpowder. I believe this presents that she doesn't care what people think of her and just likes having a good time, I think this will appeal to a younger audience and is a good element featured in all 3 of my products.

Her happiness if further demonstrated through her facial expressions in the images and clips.

A strong representation of my audience across all of the products

was necessary to be able to fully create a successful music artist. I

mainly wanted to promote my artist to teenage girls so I had to represent

DAINI in way that I believed would interest this particular audience. Her

overall image, style, performance, attitude, beliefs would certainly need

to be taken into consideration.I mainly used the colour pink in my products as I know this is stereotypical for young girls to like, I also made sure my artist seemed fashionable and kept up with the latest trends, I had my artist wear many outfits throughout the video and the one of same outfits for the photoshoot I did which links the products together.

Additionally, I presented my artist as the girl-next-door through her acting codes, clothing ect. and I wanted this to come across in all 3 products.

My artist achieved this by simply modelling for the photos and acting in the clips in a happy, care-free way, in the print products and music video it is clear that she isn't a high fashion model posing, she is just a normal girl that teenagers will be able to relate to.

Genre/style represented through vintage camera effect. Presents an indie pop artist.

A positive representation was important for me to create in all my products and in my opinion was quite easy to keep

consistent throughout the different formats of promotion. I believe the representation I constructed for my mainstream

artist across the products will be very likeable and relatable to my target audience, this strong correlation between the 3 products would be very effective when it comes to album

sales in the real world.
