A BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Introduction to the Great Legal Systems
Introduction to the Great Legal Systems allows students even at the first year of study to learn
about the basic features of great legal systems such as the European-continental and Anglo-Saxon
system of law, but also other major legal systems (the legal systems of the Far East, the Islamic
law, the Hindu law and the law of India and the Jewish law and the law of Israel). The subject
today is becoming more important, since the importance of national boundaries is gradually being
lost and that people all over, primarily through the global economy and trade, learn about
different cultures and civilizations which have their own distinctive legal systems. Therefore, in
accordance with the practice of all modern law schools in the world, the students of the Faculty
of Law, at the University Mediterranean will be able to meet the specific major legal systems of
today.
Sociology
The aim of this course is to enable students to gain basic knowledge in sociology.
International Public Law
This course will enable students to gain the basic knowledge about the origin, development and
doctrines of International Public Law, to learn about the organizational structure of the UN and
the International Court of Justice, to understand the jurisdictions and state responsibility in
international law and to study the specific areas such as borders in international law, diplomatic
law and international treaty law, and to thoroughly investigate all relevant sources of public
international law.
Labor Law
This course will enable students to acquire adequate knowledge of labor law and its importance
in the legal system. Students will be provided with theoretical and normative explanations of
specific terms and labor law institutes in order to study the general principles of application and
interpretation of regulations of labor relations, employment, collective bargaining and social
insurance.
Inheritance Law
In this course students will master the fundamentals and principles of inheritance law.
Family Law
The main goal of this course is to learn about the fundamentals and principles of family law
through the mastering of basic family-related issues and domestic relations including: the nation
of marriage, family, support, custody.
Obligation Law
Obligation law allows students to master the fundamentals and principles of obligation law.
Besides theoretical knowledge in certain cases, they will be able to notice a problem, analyze it,
propose a way to solve the case and thus, based on acquired knowledge and skills, they will
dispose rationally of limited resources.
Civil Procedure
Studying this course aims to introduce students in a methodological way with all the relevant
institutions of civil procedure and to explain them. Thus the students will properly comprehend
the institutes of civil procedural law, master the process and institutions and build their position
on certain issues.
Roman Law
This course provides a basic introduction to Roman law as the basis of the whole tradition of
European continental legal system. Also, since Rome did not create major theories of state and
law, as was the case in Greece (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, etc..), but imposing a system of positive
(mostly private) law, the acquisition of knowledge in the field of Roman law will allow students
to easily master the whole matter of civil rights.
Civil and Substantive Law
Civil and Substantive Law enables students to master the fundamentals and principles of civil and
substantive law, particularly with as property, possessions and civil proceedings.
Human Rights
This course offers a deep knowledge of human rights in domestic and international law, the
dissemination of the individual human rights, procedure and means for their protection,
developing a culture of human rights, monitoring of human rights and the acquisition of
knowledge and skills in the process of their realization in practice.
Judicial Organizational Law
The course aims to gain in-depth knowledge of the organization of the judicial system in
Montenegro, in the narrow sense - the organization of courts, and in the broader sense - the
organization of the judicial institutions.
Constitutional Law
The Constitution is the supreme law of a state with which all other laws must comply.
Accordingly, it is of great importance for law students in the first year to explore the basic
principles of constitutional law, because the idea of the rule of law implies respect for the
principles of constitutionality and legality. Thus, the Constitution defines the relationship of
government and the people at the global level, ie. It represents a set of legal norms regulating the
organization of public authorities, their relationship and the rights and freedoms of man and
citizen, which is the basis for the study of other branches of law and legal institutions, which are
taught in them.
Administrative Law
The main objective of the study of Administrative Law is that law students learn about the
theoretical and legal regulations of the organization and administration work, as well as basics,
rules and principles of the proceedings before the administrative authorities.
Introduction to Jurisprudence
The main objective of this course is to enable students to gain basic knowledge about the
concepts of state and law, since the introduction to jurisprudence as an abstract law science
provides knowledge of state and law in general, as opposed to concrete law sciences (positive-
law and history-law) providing knowledge about the specific rights and states. This course aims
to determine what are the law and the state and what is their purpose, to show what are the core
values of law, to illuminate the difference between legal and other similar rules and to determine
which are the basic legal principles.
Criminalistics
This course is intended to provide law students a basic university education in criminalistics as a
science and therefore to instruct them for practice in the pre-trial and partly in the criminal
procedure in the detection of crimes and their perpetrators, when planning and undertaking
general and criminal investigative measures and actions in order to provide evidence, both
material and personal, necessary for the clarification and proof of criminal acts or to successfully
initiate, conduct and terminate criminal proceedings.
Criminal Law – general part and specialization
The course objective is to introduce students to basic concepts of criminal law.
International Private Law
The course aims to introduce students to basic concepts of international private law in the
following areas: conflict of laws, conflict of jurisdictions and civil rights of foriegners.
Introduction to Economics
The main objective of this course is to enable students to acquire knowledge in economics since
the law and economics are in mutual dependence, economics as the basis and law as a
superstructure. The course deals with issues related to the creation of goods, meeting the needs
and interests of people and the way in which a man organizes to tackle the shortage of resources.
The most important issues in this case are: entities, resources, activities, principles, categories and
institutions of the economy. This course is intended for students to understand the important
relationships in which people enter in the process of production, distribution, exchange and
consumption; to understand laws and basic categories that will help them find more easily their
way in the study of related disciplines and to realize mutual interdependence of economics and
law.
History of Law
History of law will enable students to gain basic knowledge about the history of law, including
the knowledge of the general and the knowledge of national history of law. Accordingly, students
will study the history of law of the Old, Middle and New century, as well as the national history
of law of Montenegro. In this framework students will thoroughly investigate all relevant legal
documents of the basic features of legal systems, which were typical for all of these historical
periods, with a special emphasis on legal monuments and history of state and law of Montenegro.
Commercial Law
By the end of this course students will be able to define and discuss the various forms (methods)
of business organization, including companies and entrepreneurs; to define and justify their
ownership, governance and organizational structure; to simulate and demonstrate the process of
establishing, connection and termination of companies. This program is also aligned with the
curricula of commercial law at law schools in the environment for a balanced acquisition of
knowledge.
English Language I
The main goal of the course is to provide students with adequate English proficiency to perform
reading/writing and speaking/listening tasks in various contexts – academic, professional or
social. Since over the course all language areas are treated in a greater depth, students will begin
to perceive the systems that underline the language. Thus, by its end students’ ability to
communicate with and understand authentic English speech will have been enhanced. Learners
will be also equipped for further advancement of knowledge in various aspects of the study of the
language.
English Language II
In New Headway Advanced, the students have the knowledge they possess confirmed via all
kinds of receptive and productive activities. The course is designed to challenge them to explore
grammatical areas, some of which they will be studying in more depth, and some of which they
might not have encountered before. Headway Advanced provides authentic materials from a wide
range of sources and a great variety of realistic communicative activities to reinforce all four
language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing acquired previously. However, the
perfection of students’ productive skills is naturally given priority to. The course aims at
increasing learners’ confidence and fluency in English and their ability to comprehend as well as
use the language efficiently and productively.
Legal English I
The course aims to improve the English language skills within a legal context. Participants learn
to read and understand legal texts such as articles and legal correspondence. Also, they will learn
to write letters and memos. Listening skills will be practised by means of a variety of listening
exercises, such as lectures, presentations and interviews. Speaking skills will be practiced though
(group) discussions, presentations, interviews and role plays. The legal terminology of this course
