What  the  SWALS  teachers  say

•   “In  nursery  cycle  are  a  lot  of  children,  who  are  born  in  Belgium  or  other  countries  but  not  in  our  home  country  and  their  language  knowledge  is  not  always  in  mother  tongue  level.”

•  “In  primary  cycle  children  have  possibility  to  learn  mother  tongue  every  day.  It  is  very  good.”

•  “I  feel  a  lack  of  4me  for  primary  year  1  and  year  2  children,  because  their  lessons  are  30  minutes  long  and  no    break  between  the  lessons.”

•  “our  opinion  is  that  SWALS  children  learning  results  in  primary  and  in  secondary  cycle  mainly  are    good”

Page 15: European)Schools) …...Cypriot 0,14% 34 Czech) 1,28% 314 Danish) 2,45% 600 Dutch) 4,07% 995 Estonian) 0,94% 230 Finnish 2,48% 607 French 12,35% 3.021 German) 13,85% 3.389 Greek 3,69%

Conclusions

•  The  number  of  SWALS  children  are  increasing  in  the  European  School  system

•  In  general,  the  SWALS  students  have  similar  or  beoer  learning  outcomes  than  students  who  have  their  own  language  sec4ons.  They  have  good  results  especially  in  the  Mathema4cs  4p  and  Science  subjects.

•  In  the  end  of  the  s7,  the  SWALS  students  have  excellent  skills  and  competences  in  their  mother  tongue  and  second  language.
