Invitation Reliability and life-time of components in energy conversion systems very much depend on the high temperature corrosion resistance of the materials used. This issue becomes even more pronounced for new and advanced systems where new concepts for obtaining increased thermal efficiencies and lower, even near-zero, CO2-emissions require new material solutions. The types of energy conversion systems concerned span a wide range from the more conventional combustion technologies over gasification of fuels or combined cycle concepts to high temperature fuel cells. The materials issues are governed by the fuels used, by the heat carrier media and the service temperatures as well as by externally applied and thermally induced stresses. More and more alternative types of fuels are being used including different sorts of waste (sewage sludge, biological waste, complex waste mixtures, highly aggressive industrial waste, refinery residues, etc.) as well as biomass (straw, wood, etc.). Thus, in addition to increased temperatures also more aggressive environments may be encountered in such energy conversion systems. As a result much of the present research on high temperature corrosion is devoted to the development of alloys and coatings securing a safe, reliable and extended operation life of energy conversion systems. The workshop aims at collating the state-of-the-art in this field, both in theory and practice, following similar approaches at earlier EFC workshops. Everybody interested in participating in the workshop, with or without an own presentation, is cordially invited. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Schütze, DECHEMA e.V., Frankfurt am Main
