Format of the EURO 2016

This year´s EURO will be held in the “land of the Gallic rooster”, i.e. in France. The tournament will be played at ten stadiums in ten different cities across France. Kick-off of the first match is scheduled for the 10th of June. It will take place at the Stade de France in Paris, and the domestic team will face the team of Romania. The final match of the tournament will be held on July 10, also at the national stadium, and will define the new European champion. 24 national teams take part in the tournament, divided in six groups of four teams. During the 30 tournament´s days, total of 51 matches will be played, 20 more than it was at the last EURO (due to increased number of the tournament’s participants). Two best teams of each group will advance to the playoffs, complemented by the top four teams from third places of all groups, based on points and final score. The biggest favourite for winning the title this year is clearly Spain, which has managed to win the last two EURO tournaments.
