EUCA-INVEST Journal Date: 20.10.2016 The Newsletter on Entrepreneurship as a product of the EUCA-INVEST project (Investing in Entrepreneurial universities in Caucasus and Central Asia) The EUCA-INVEST - Project (Investing in Entrepreneurial universi- ties in Caucasus and Central Asia) is an EU-funded project which supports the education about entrepreneurship in universities in Caucasus and Central Asia. The general objective of EUCA- INVEST is to enhance culture and creativity within HEI in Georgia and Kyrgyzstan and to strengthen the role of HEIs as an active stakeholder that contributes to the socio-economic development of society by fostering co- operation enterprise – university at both academic and industry level as well as between EU and the bene- ciary countries. 1. Project News Masaryk University organized first part of training for CreaLab Staff Workshop for Kyrgyz partners took place in Bishkek from 19th to 22nd September. The event was hosted by Kyrgyz Economic University. Lectures were provided by Mr. Leoš Jurásek, Business development Manager, and Ms. Iveta Zieglová, PR&Project Manager, both from Masaryk University TTO. Workshop was attended by 9 participants from 5 partner institutions. The same workshop was repeated a week later, from 27th to 30th September in Tbilisi, this time for Georgian partners. Lecturer was Ms. Jana Daňková from Masaryk University TTO, event was hosted by Ilia State University. The topics of both workshops were Commercialization of Products, Fundraising and Creation of venture. The Roundtable meeting “The improvement of the university’s international affairs - Kyrgyz Economic University experience within the Project UNIVIA” The Roundtable meeting for IRO office of 7 Universities took place in KEU at 07 October, 2016. Particular interests drawn to IRO administration structure changes which have been done in KEU and establishing of creative laboratories in KEU in the frame of Erasmus+ project on Investing in Entrepreneurial Universities in Caucasus and Central Asia (EUCAINVEST). With the aim of dissemination, the short presentation has been given to local university representatives about the objectives of CreaLabs and future action plans of KEU on EUCA-INVEST project.

Masaryk University started to prepare second part of the training for CreaLab Staff Workshop for 17 participants from Georgia and Kyrgyzstan will take place from 8th to 11th November in Brno, Czech Republic. The topics are “Intellectual property rights” and “Contracts enterprise–university”. The participants will also have a chance to visit laboratories of Central European Institute of Technology, a world-class research infrastructure providing state-of-the-art equipment and ideal conditions for basic and applied research in the area of life sciences, and South Moravian Innovation Centre, a succesfull business incubator which was granted many international awards.

• The monthly newspaper of Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) as well as the website of the university are labelled “Muni” and from mid-August, this term belongs solely to Masaryk University. The university registered its Czech trademark with the Industrial Property Office through its Technology Transfer Office. The trademark is valid for ten years and can be renewed when this period expires. You can read the whole article here

• New patented method gives clues for leukaemia therapy: a method developed by experts from Masaryk University and the University Hospital Brno helps physicians predict how patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia will respond to the latest treatment. The method, which has recently been patented in the Czech Republic,is based on measuring the level of molecules that regulate the activity of B cells, whose uncontrolled growth is what causes the leukaemia. “Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia is one of the most frequent types of leukaemia in the adult population. However, prognosis and response to treatment differ very widely depending on the patient. Our method can help doctors make a tentative prediction of whether a specific patient will respond well to a specific kind of therapy,” says Marek Mráz, head of the research team that included experts from Ceitec MU and the Clinic of Internal Medicine – Haematology and Oncology at the University Hospital Brno.
