2nd 9 Weeks- Edmodo Resources

Before introducing text structure of non-fiction text, I sent my students a blend space I created. It included videos, posters and pictures that allowed them to preview text structure. We then used some of the videos during the week at school.

2nd 9 Weeks Edmodo Resources

While studying a non-fiction my students read an article about a Mountian nicknamed “Old Man of the Mountain”. They were very interested and asked for more information, so I created a blendspace with videos, pictures and information to view at home.

After, students shared that they were having a problem reading at home, because they do not have books, I shared overdrive. It is an online book service. All the students need is a public library card. I also posted it to my parents.

*Note #2 Book Discussions using Edmodo

Originally I was going to use Edmodo for book discussions and we did in the beginning. It was somewhat limited and left us with only a few options. However, I discovered the wonderful world of Kidblog. There were far more opportunities through Kidblog. Not only could we hold book discussions (and we have), but my kids could also develop their own authorship. So, we made the switch and have loved every minute of it. My students write a blog weekly and comment about other students writing. They write about what they love. So, I believe my goal has somewhat transformed from book discussions which was specific to a more authentic way of developing a love of reading and writing.

1st 9 Week-Book Discussions

I created a review of the book Wonder. The students then answered follow up questions about their interest level. I have since had 5 students who read the book, that I know of.https://tackk.com/n6y492
