Akil Borneo believes it is time to take his career to the next

level. Known in entertainment circles as 5 Star Akil, the DJ/soca singer is ready to follow up his 2013 success with a new stream of timeless content.

However, the artiste believes the success of his Carnival 2013 song Partier has made it harder for him as expectations of him have been raised. Yet, Akil is un-daunted in his quest to exceed those expectations. “There is a lot of pressure, but it is good pressure. It will take a lot to top ‘Partier’ because the song is so big. To get a bigger song

is a lot of work. I’d have to collaborate with different writers to get the best song and that in itself is a lot of work,” he said. Despite that, Borneo says his passion for the art should lead him to greater things. “My goal is to trample Partier, but as an artist it’s just to make music. We do it our heart because we love it, so the name of the next song is ‘To My Heart.’ T&T will understand when the song is released. My contribution is coming from my heart.”

Currently, 5 Star is juggling du-ties as a performer with his original bread and butter of being an event DJ and radio announcer. ET&T

posed the question of which duty he would be most likely to leave behind if his soca career truly takes off and Borneo remained diplomatic in his answer.

“Right now it’s merging so they make flexible time for me. I still have my audience from radio, so it is some-thing that’s working for me. Radio is dear to my heart. That will never leave and we’re born in soca so it merges. It’s just how you maintain and structure yourself,” he said.

Ultimately, the artiste ex-pressed enthusiasm about the up-coming season and he expressed an appreciation for the struggles

those in the industry have had to endure. “Everyone is always ask-ing what next and saying what they expect. Now I actually feel how an art-ist feels when an artist does what he has to do to reach where he actually has to reach. At the end of the day I just want to make music that people enjoy… happy music. There are a lot of critics but we need to put critics to rest.”

In terms of additional insight he stated “We’re taking music to the next level. The music is going to change in another direction and I am part of that change and I’m going with a different sound.”

We at ET&T will be listening and looking out for that change.

Tempo turned 8 on Novem-ber 21st at 8pm, and in com-

memoration of the evolution and growth of the brand Tempo networks, Mr. Frederick Morton (Founder, Chairman and CEO) of Tempo Networks celebrated Tempo’s 8th anniversary in Toba-go. Part of the celebrations includ-ed the Tobago launch of the net-work’s Tempo water brand along with its ‘Taste the Vibe’ campaign.

For the eighth anniversary event Morton and his Tempo family employed the services of some of Tobago’s finest talent

to entertain those who came out to show support. Ziggy Rankin, Gardah Knight, Fya Empress and the L.A.J family are a few of the names who gave scintillating per-formances.

Proceedings began with a road show which began at Crown Point and ended at Penny savers in Canaan. The Tempo water was handed out to onlookers and fol-lowers while pulsating music kept spirits high throughout. At the final event at Canaan there were games, giveaways and more live performances.

When asked about the brand Mr. Tempo (Frederick Morton) went on to say “Tempo is nowhere where I see us being.” He also of-fered insight as to the future of the network and its related brands. One such endeavor is Tempo talker: a communication device to market Tempo net-works. He also, plans to go na-tional throughout the entire US.

Morton added that his main goal is ultimately to turn Tempo into a “global brand, globally mar-keting what the Caribbean has to offer positively.”

Ahead of Carnival 2014, Soca artiste Ricardo Drue is cer-

tainly playing his part in prevent-ing Soca addicts around the globe from ‘kicking’ their habits, with the release of his latest offering “Socaholic”.

Produced by Mastamind Pro-ductions and written by Ricardo Drue, Herbert “Burga” Joseph and Toronto’s Dr. Jay, Socaholic’s catchy lyrics, captivating melodies and infectious rhythms paint a fa-miliar picture of Soca music fans hopelessly hooked and hypno-tized by the genre’s savoury com-bination of Soul and Calypso.

According to Drue, “The Term Socaholic connects with Soca lovers worldwide. Every year we listen to our favourite artistes, our favourite songs, go to our favourite fetes and even though they may be the same, artistes, songs and fetes, we embrace the experi-ence and fall in love with it every time as if it was the very first time. It’s our addiction, it’s our passion; we are ‘So-caholics’.”

The energy and presence of Socaholic has proved to be unde-niable as the groovy track has al-ready gotten into the veins of both regional and international Soca lovers.

“It is already a major hit in An-tigua and it is doing well in Toronto. We have also received positive feed-

back from as far and Japan and Ger-many, so we intend to keep pushing” shared Drue.

Ricardo has previously de-livered hit songs such as ‘Get To Know You’, ‘Wet Dreams’, ‘No Boring Gyal’ and ‘Nah Leaving’ and has collaborated with the likes of Soca star Patrice Roberts

and Dancehall Sensation Kon-shens. The versatile vocalist who has become a fixture in the Anti-guan Soca and Groovy Soca Mon-arch competitions has also been a frontline singer with top T&T outfits Roy Cape All-stars and Imij and Company.

Regardless of his wealth of ex-perience and accomplishments, the determined and forward-thinking singer-songwriter re-mains humble and open to advice and future alliances on his jour-ney towards self-development and contributing in a significant way to local and Caribbean culture.

Currently in Trinidad for pro-motional appearances and per-formances en route to Carnival 2014, Ricardo Drue expressed his love and respect to all of his fans for their support throughout his career and shared that new mate-rial and collaborations can be ex-pected soon.

Twenty-eight year old Jan-nelle Layne Jemmott looks

more like a model than a manag-er, but those with a vested inter-est in carnival arts would know that her talents are not to be messed with. The Long Island native moved to T&T in 2008 and soon after worked her way up the local corporate and social ladder to become a major figure in the behind the scenes success of YUMA Vibe.

Jemmott is the Executive As-sistant to the band’s Director and she has also designed for the band for two years. Design aside, her role is pivotal. “My main du-ties are to make sure the band is managed in all aspects from casting models, to launches, to registration all the way up to the ‘on the road’ Yuma experience.”

When questioned on how she is able to manage such an extensive portfolio Jannelle an-

swered: “Managing is never a prob-lem when you are part of a great support team. In Yuma we don't appoint anyone to any one title. We are a team so we get the job done together.”

Oddly enough, her journey did not begin in business or arts.

“I went to college at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I studied pre-med graduating with two Bachelors’ in Biology & Psychology and a minor in Chemistry. Amongst academia on campus, I was a notorious party queen. I was also Vice President of

the Caribbean Student Association, Treasure African American Associa-tion plus a promo girl etcetera. That gave me the management mentality and an idea of entertainment indus-try.” She stated.

Jannelle posits that she was one of the first employees at YUMA along with Production manager Vindra Sooklal. Being a consummate go-getter she tried her hand at design while there and got her first break designing for Wee Mas in 2010 before be-ing hired to design for YUMA.

Apart from her role in de-veloping YUMA, Jemmott who now resides in Arima is jet-set on becoming one of Trinidad’s top female designers while multi managing her personal business which ventures into décor and fashion. At the same time she is also using her skills to assist her husband’s jewelry company in moving to a “Fifth Ave” level.

The Lydian Steel Ensemble will be featured performing

the George Philipp Telemann Overture in E Minor in their signature Baroque style and will also accompany the choir's many Christmas performance favour-ites. Astra Noel, Cello pannist with the Lydian Steel will also debut two eagerly awaited song compositions, "Await That Star" and "All I want for Christmas, Is a Pan Man".

Our highly- cherished guest conductors, Victor Prescod and Lorraine Granderson, have been working with the choir over the last few months. Our faithful ac-companist is Lindy- Ann Bodden- Ritch. A special arrangement of Relator's "Let's Be Friends" and Parang choruses will be led by noted local composer John Jacob.

Also featured will be "At Christ-mas Your Heart Goes Home" spe-cifically custom-arranged for the Lydians by Sian Carlin(dec.) and written by local song composer Everard Leon.

The Lydians tradition of collaborations continues with a first-time performance of the musical duo, Freetown Collec-tive, comprising Lou Lyons and Muhammad Muwakil. Muwakil,

who was first introduced to a Lydian audience by former musi-cal director Dr. Pat Bishop(dec.), will also voice the narration for the programme, taking the au-dience through the four transi-tions of the Hearts. The Lydian family expands even further with the collaboration of the Lydian Men with the QRC Chorale for a spectacular combined, all-male chorus of the "Ave Maria". The Lydian men will further shine with a special segment entitled "From Eddie, With Love" fea-turing renowned Trinidad and Tobago Tenor, Edward Cumber-batch.

Lydians 2012 - Rejoice and be Glad 2

The upcoming T&T Carnival 2014 season will be a long

and competitive one as several artistes from near and far have already thrown their hats into the ring for Soca supremacy. One such entertainer is South Caro-lina based Soca artiste, Champe-on, who recently released his J’ouvert inspired contribution “Red Devil”.

The Trinidad-born Champe-on whose real name is Ronnel Ramirez created “Red Devil” as homage to the traditional Car-nival character known as the Jab Jab. The song was written by Champeon and mastered, ar-ranged and produced by hit mak-er Shawn ‘Da Mastamind’ Noel from Mastamind Productions and showcases the sounds and styles of the indigenous musical art form of Rapso.

According to Champeon, “The inspiration for this track comes from my love for my culture. I remem-bered as a child hearing and reading about the history of Carnival, so I de-

cided to write a song that could be a powerful theme song for the J’ouvert festivities and portray the Red Devil (Jab Jab) image. I chose the Red Devil because I always viewed this particu-

lar devil as being more prominent than the blue and also because the red in T&T’s national flag signifies the vigour of my land and the courage of my people”.

In addition, the creative and motivated entertainer shared that his choice to infuse Rapso into the track is based on his apprecia-tion for the art form and for the contributions of the genre’s ar-tistes. “My intention with this single is to let the world know that Rapso music is still very relevant inside and outside of Trinidad &Tobago”.

He also hinted of his inten-tions to make a music video for the infectious J’ouvert single, one that would bring out the Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ appeal of the song for all his fellow passionate J’ouvert thrill-seekers.

Champeon, who aspires to one day work with stalwarts such as The Might Sparrow and Baron as well as modern day icons the likes of Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin and Rupee has consistent-ly maintained an entertainment presence in major North Ameri-can Caribbean festivals which include The Charleston Carifest, The Charlotte Caribbean Festival and various events in Florida.

GypTiAn ALbuM “Sex, Love & ReGGAe” TopS biLLboARD ReGGAe ChARTJamaican dancehall artist Gyptian tops the Billboard Reggae album chart, with his latest album “Sex, Love & Reggae”

The album which is more of a “Pop/ R&B’ mix, was produced by executive producer Jerry ‘Wonda’ Duplessis. Sex, Love & Reggae goes largely for a breezy party vibe that feels calculated for crossover success.

Gyptian’s smooth tones suit this well, though, and although the roots reggae sensibilities are dialled down, he still plumps for romance and respect in his lyrics.

Sex, Love & Reggae features collaborations with Bunji Garlin, Kees from KES the Band, Melanie Fiona and British singer Estelle and others.

bounTy KiLLA SLiGhTeD FoR STinG?Sting 30 has been officially launched and Bounty Killa is visibly absent from the annual Boxing Day event.

The controversial dancehall deejay who took a stance last year and pulled himself from the lineup may have been slighted for the 2013 stag-ing.

Sting 30 was officially launched recently at the Pegasus in Kingston. Some of the entertain-ers who made the cut are Beenie Man, Aidonia, Lady Saw and Elephant Man.

"Not an EP, but maybe a blog thing like how I did 'Versace,' 'The Motion,' all those in one night," Drake said during a recent inter-

view with VIBE. "I’ll probably do 'Trophies' and three or four other records."

Drake's much-discussed "Wu-Tang Forever (Remix)" is also likely slated to be released in this batch of selections, says the rapper.

"Wu-Tang Forever (Remix)' will probably come out with all that stuff, I hope," Drake says. "It’s on 40. He has all the verses."

Brian Griffin, the character voiced by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, was killed off in n episode titled "Life of Brian," after being hit by a car. The next day, some 14,000 fans of the show were campaigning on petition site Change.org to resurrect the char-acter.

Brian, an unconventional fam-

name: Dena MarieAge: 20hometown: Woodbrook, Port-of-SpainShe has done her share of band launches. She modeled costumes for Tribe, Yuma, Fantasy, Island People, Harts and Ronnie and Caro. She’s also no stranger to advertisements. Her most recent feature was for Coors Light. She still does promotional work even though she is careful about whom she works with. Her latest bit of promo work was with Stetchers. However, local model Dena Marie is as humble, fun-loving and free a person you would be likely to meet.

She is not keen on pouring over de-signers and their work, but if she had

a choice of designer she picks Armani because of her past experiences working on an Emporio Armani swimwear cam-paign.

This model is also well known by the crème de la crème of local photogra-phers. Gary Jordan, Calvin French and Nigel Tyrell P. Reid have all captured her essence through their lenses. As you can see the results are usually spectacular.

On a personal note, Dena Marie epitomizes the true Trini spirit. She loves going to the beach and professes that traditional local Sunday Lunch is her favourite. Otherwise, you can find her spending time with family watching mov-ies or getting a bite at Ruby Tuesday.

Try not to miss this face in the next wave of ads coming soon.

Two years on from the open-ing of her online business

The Pop Up Store, the energetic and enterprising Adele Beckles has embarked on a new leg of her continuous journey. Apart from providing clients with a range of hard-to- get international beauty products; Beckles is now produc-ing her own natural hair line made with local ingredients. Her new line is called the Moisture Research Project (MRP) and it was created predominantly with black people in mind.

Beckles is happy to pour her energies into this new initiative that she says was born out of a shortage of products available for people with natural or curly hair. She stressed that it’s not a ‘black thing,’ but her treatments are re-ally for all those who struggle with curly hair since curls often tend to be problematic.

The self-professed “product junkie” says her willingness to experiment and push boundaries is what has made her line special. As far as pushing boundaries go, Adele placed a lot of emphasis on rigorous testing of her products. She says she often achieves the right formulae through extensive trial and error and she jokes that she is happy to have several brave and accommodating friends who are happy to sacrifice their hair for her benefit. Suffice it to say, Adele is as much a guinea pig to her own tests as her friends are. Such is her faith in the composition of her natural products.

It does not hurt that she also has a wealth of scientific knowl-edge about the products she makes as well as the effects their properties have on people. Beckles is actually a Pharmacology student at the University of the West In-dies (UWI). This knowledge is no doubt a beneficial tool in realizing her goal of “offering something that is safe and sustainable” for the local market.

With that said, Beckles does not plan to stop there. She has plans of taking her line regional once she has conquered Trinidad and Tobago. “I believe you have to be

loved and accepted at home first before you can move on to new territories,” she states.

Not only does she plan to take MRP up the islands and eventu-ally international, but Adele also envisions expansion of the line itself. “I want to expand to body, skin and face as well” posits Beckles. She believes the possibility of such growth is very real thanks to the availability of the natural products she uses. In fact some of the in-

gredients she puts into her prized concoctions are derived from her own backyard. Rosemary and aloe are some of the natural agents she usually infuses into her MRP Curly Hair Jelly and MRP Curly Hair Cream.

She usually mixes her products by hand to get the right consist-ency and uses other natural fra-grant essential oils as bases for her treatments. These products are all accessible to her locally except

for olive oil and shea butter. Ulti-mately, Adele wants her success to be one for the country’s economy. She wants her products produced wholly from Trinidad and To-bago products down to the labels and containers in which they are placed.

While Beckles admits to ET&T that she has some work to do to get to where she needs to be, she confesses that she enjoys the journey of convincing people about the potential and benefits of her products. She stated “We are providing samples of the product. Feel free to try it first and if you like it, join the revolution.”

You can find the MRP range at Hair It Is store at Woodbrook or you can contact Adele personally via The Pop Up Store.

Arima boy, Jerome Precilla is a multifaceted individual whose

quest to explore his passion seems to be paying off. While he is well-ed-ucated and employed in the field of mechanical engineering, Rome has also made inroads in entertainment (a space he where he feels most com-fortable). He already has one foot in the door, but now the rising star is looking for the full takeover.

eT&T: we’ve seen various incarnations of you from events manager to host/presenter and now performer. yet, you are also a qualified mechanical engineer. which of your talents do you love expressing the most? Rome: Soca! I always had the passion for the soca, but I have to start from small to go upwards whilst in regards to Engineering I have to keep the 8-4 until the soca can pay the bills.

eT&T: Describe your support system? Rome: Family always has my back 100 percent. Whether it’s engineering, soca or presenting, they’re always there to give support. There are also my close friends who I could always count on to be real and honest to say “yeah this is good” or “nah that was bad.” So I would say family and close friends.

eT&T: Tell us about the origin of your song Lickah? Rome: Last year Millbeatz sent me a riddim called ‘Sorrel and Ginger beer.’ I sat down with the song just ‘vibsin.’ I married and old song to something new and came up with “Lickah.” It follows in the vein of artistes like Kenny J. When you listen carefully, the song is more than a double… its more of a triple entendre.

eT&T: what’s your next move as far as entertainment is concerned?

Rome: One more track… a power soca will be coming out Boxing Day. Also, I have a TV show to be debuted called Fit Camp Caribbean. Full production is completed which will also be released after carnival.

eT&T: who’s your favorite local artiste? Rome: Machel for his energy and stage presence, he can definitely command a crowd.

eT&T: Married, single, committed or horning? Rome: Committed.

eT&T: what are the three words which best describe you? Rome: Ambitious, Wild and

Crazy.

eT&T: name one thing you just can’t stand? Rome: A woman who speaks badly.

eT&T: if a girl were to carry you out, what would comprise a perfect date for you? Rome: A candle light dinner, where we could sit and have a great conversation and just be able to peak my interest.

eT&T: what is your dream car? Rome: Right now I drive a Navarra, but my dream car would have to be an Audi R8.

eT&T: what’s your favorite Christmas memory? Rome: Childhood… going to bed early because you know Santa’s coming and then waking up early and excited to go under the Christmas tree to scramble for presents. One Xmas that stood out for me was when I got my first bike. That alone was enough.

eT&T: Share the most outta timing person/experience you met/endured in the industry? Rome: I’ve never encountered anyone as yet. Everyone so far was welcoming. I know that there are people like that I may encounter in the future, but I haven’t so far and I hope it stays that way.

it’s no secret that the ladies

love bailey’s irish Cream. The milky

alcoholic beverage is a favourite whether in cocktails or by itself and recently the guys at AS bryden & Sons unveiled a new look bottle as we enter the holiday/carnival season. The

small, but chic soiree took place at the buzo osteria italiana restaurant and eT&T was present for the launch. See the full gallery on our facebook page.

The house of Angostura was the venue for the latest in a line of party concepts hosted by the popular alcohol label Angostura. The event was based on T&T’s apparent love for all

things halloween as it took shape in the form of a costume party. As usual, top of the line drinks and culinary treats were on hand to fuel the patrons who had a blast from the word “Go.” Check our facebook page for more photos.

it’s kind of funny that the first really big local movie star happens to be

a puppet. Such is the magic of Lexo productions that Santana the puppet

and his band of miscreants have become household names in the country. parlaying the suc-cess of past Santana flicks; the LEXO crew came together to host a party aboard the Treasure

Queen to promote the upcoming Santana movie sequel. it was also an opportunity to release tracks from the upcoming soundtrack as well. Several external forces including bad weather resulted in a low turnout for the event which eT&T was still happy to cover.

The lady in front is only a diver-sion. The real fashion convict is the woman in red who is try-ing to make her escape in the background. Tablecloth in-spired skirt aside, look at where she is wearing her entrance band to the club. Shouldn’t it be on her wrist? why she thought that would be cute is anyone’s guess.

She should not have been allowed to put on a ‘bubblin’ exhibition like that. She has her pink bra straps exposed with her white outfit and is trying to convince the world that it’s ok because it goes with her shoes. There must have been something stronger than tobacco in that ciga-rette.

remand ready we know the prison system has its flaws and the conditions within can sometimes be construed as

inhumane. However, it is up to the civilians who walk the streets to do the right thing and avoid prison time at all costs. Fashion Police lock up wasn’t meant to be a holiday. Apparently, these people couldn’t care less.

With a mother who is a cel-ebrated poet herself, she became quite familiar with the likes of T.

S. Elliot, Ezra Pound, Allan Gins-berg, Raymond Carver and Sylvia Plath.

Lorde spent much of her early life working with Universal to develop her sound and artistic vi-sion. She was spotted at the age of 12 by A&R scout Scott Ma-clachlan and later signed to Uni-versal at the age of 13 and began working with songwriters at 14.

Her first EP, The Love Club, was released in November 2012,

and her first single, "Royals", debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40, and also reached number one on the Bill-board Hot 100 in 2013, making her the first New Zealand solo

artist to have a number one song in the United States. Her debut album, Pure Heroine, was released in September 2013. She jointly won the 2013 Silver Scroll award for "Royals".

normally all it takes is one big celebrity to push the box of-

fice results of a film. Then, there are times when Hollywood A-Listers converge in one film in an attempt to carry the film over the threshold. Coming soon are two films that see top thespians team up in an attempt to get screen en-thusiasts and critics talking.

The Grudge MatchRobert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Kim Basinger, Kevin Hart and Alan Arkin star in this Peter Segal film that sort of pays homage to the roles that catapulted lead actors Stallone (Rocky) and DeNiro (Raging Bull) to prominence. In "Grudge Match," De Niro and Stallone play Billy "The Kid" McDonnen and

Henry "Razor" Sharp, two local Pittsburgh fighters whose fierce rivalry put them in the national

spotlight. Each had scored a victory against the other during their heyday, but in 1983, on the eve of their decisive third match, Razor suddenly announced his retirement, refusing to explain why but effectively delivering a knock-out punch to both their careers. Thirty years later, boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr., seeing big dollar signs, makes them an offer they can't refuse: to re-enter the ring and settle the score once and for all.

American hustleIn American Hustle, a con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner Sydney Prosser is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world

of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia. Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence all star in this highly touted film.
