ThesisGroundwater form the Jakarta Basin has been utilized
for drinking water since the early 20th Century. Through
an increasing amount of use of groundwater, the basins aquifer system has shown a steady decline in the
quality of water. Industry in Jakarta has yielded a high
need for groundwater, neglecting infrastructure and government wide management. Through the increased
need of groundwater
exploitation, the basin is negatively impacted and
resources are producing poor quality and less
replenishment.

Environmental Theories and EthicalPositions of Stakeholders
• Local businesses do not gain compensation for water
conservation.
• Population uses local water for personal use.
• Government improvements in groundwater management.
Responsibilities of StakeholdersStakeholder
• Jakarta Government• Regulate rivers use• Apply penalties for
violators• Ensure safe drinking
water• Ensure business needs• Educate the citizens
• Jakarta Citizens• Stop dumping sewage
and refuse.• Assist in clean up
efforts. • Value the river as the
source of their economic and physical survival.
Ethical Responsibility• Jakarta Businesses
• Comply with regulations.
• Work with government on river use and management.
• Assist in clean up activities.
• Ensure proper disposal of waste.
• All Stakeholders• Safeguard the river • Understand their
dependency on each other.
• Safeguard a home for local wildlife.
