"Estate Planning & Giving to RI Foundation"with Roger Perry, PDG

Roger Perry will be here this week to explain how we can help the RI Foundation through estate planning, to get our dollars to go further, and still take care of our loved ones.

Through a planned gift, donors can provide ongoing support to Rotary programs. Do-nors can choose structured gifts to be made after their lifetimes, and take advantage of financial and tax benefits now.The most common gift structure is a provision in an estate plan which might include:• A provision in a will including codicils• A provision in a trust• Insurance beneficiary designations• Real estate and other asset transfers• Gifts of retirement plan assets or other financial accounts

Plan now for a lasting legacy!

November is Rotary Foundation Month

THINK ABOUT IT!“Make enthusiasm a daily habit. Wake up happy. Be thankful for the day ahead. Think positively early in the day. It can carry you through the hardest days. Don’t let negative people predetermine your worth.”

“Don’t be a grudge collector. We can all recite incidents in life when we felt slighted by someone, turned off by one’s negative actions, or even insulted by someone. It’s easy to rekindle a negative attitude if we continue to remember those occasions or react to them. Forget them. They’re not worth reliving.” – Bob Stoess

Ridgeline Graphics, Express Employment Professionals, Clifton Larson Allen -Wenatchee - are drop off locations for auction donations. The Week in Review – ~President Jim opened the meeting by telling us that in `1941-42 we lost 4 members who left to join the service to serve in WWII. The club granted them perfect attendance for the year.WestSide High students informed us about Operation Care Kits they are putting together for homeless people in our area. A list of what they are looking for will be published in The Appleseed.2 new members were introduced- Kelli Van Wagner & Kim Gullett come to us from Confluence Health as our newest Corporate members. Welcome Kelli & Kim!Gary Provo gave us an auction update about how to properly fill out the donation forms.Carol Adamson from Sunrise is our asst. DG for this area. She announced a Distinguished Service Award given to Pres. Jim Russell. Way to go Jim!Col. Ford Barrett (ret) introduced our program. Peggy Ludwick is the daughter of Art Ludwick who was a former member of our club & our President in 1984-85. Lud was a medical officer in the 34th Infantry Divi-sion in WWII. He served in Northern Ireland, North Africa & Italy from 1941-44.Lud entered Kansas University at age 18 and medical school at age 18. He started his medical career in Waterloo, IA in 1938 where he met & married his wife Jean. During his time in Europe Lud wrote 275 detailed, typed letters home talking about the horrors of war and anything else going on in his life. His unit spent 500 days in combat and were among the first US troops sent to Europe in early 1942.On 12-25-42 they left for Northern Africa and participated in Operation Torch in Algeria. They had 14 major engagements with Field Marshall Rommell’s famed Afrika Corps. Medical Officers did not wear a sidearm, instead they wore a red cross on their sleeve. Lud received a purple heart medal when hit in the back by shrapnel while shielding a wounded soldier during an artillery attack. In March, 1944 Lud was awarded the Silver Star for bravery for his heroics at Mt. Pantano, Italy.Peggy explained that the ties that bind soldiers who have been in combat together last forever. Lud stayed a lifelong friend of his medical assistant, Lt. Morris visiting him in New York more than once.Lud had a favorite quote he mentioned several times that goes: “Success is doing something that you don’t want to do and doing it well”.A very informative program about a past Rotarian that was very modest and humble and that left large footprints for all of us to follow. We have set a goal of saving 15,000 lives through our Club 60 donations this year. Remember the Bill Gates Foundation is still matching our donations 2 for 1. All it takes is 60¢ a week, not even a half a cup of coffee, and you will save someone from the dibil-itating effects of polio and perhaps their live. Bring your loose change each week or if you don’t have any change bring dollars and place them in the cups on each table.
