Dear Parishioners,
Hello, my name is Fr. Scott Perry, and I am the new Parochial Vicar here in
Delphos, Landeck, and Spencerville. I recently completed my seminary
formation at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati (where I was for
seven years) and was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 2018 with my
two classmates, Fr. Andrew Wellmann and Fr. Kyle Gase. I am excited to
begin my priestly ministry here at our three parishes and am looking forward
to meeting you in the weeks ahead.
To tell you a little about myself, I grew up in Tiffin, Ohio and my home
parish is St. Joseph. I have a brother and two sisters (all younger). My sister
Emily is married and works as a nurse in Springfield, Ohio and my brother
Kevin has a degree in business and marketing and works in Columbus. My
sister Kaitlin works at Kroger and lives in Tiffin. My parents, Roger and Jane Perry, also live in Tiffin. I attended
St. Joseph School for elementary and graduated from Calvert High School in 2006. After high school, I attended
Ohio State University where I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 2011,
I was accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Toledo and began my studies for the priesthood at Mount St.
Mary’s Seminary. Just this spring, I completed a Master of Arts in Theology with my thesis covering the
spirituality of one of my favorite saints, St. Thérèse of Lisieux.
I first thought about the priesthood when my 8th Grade religion teacher told our class: “Being the person that God
wants you to be, doing what He wants you to do with your life, will give you the most peace, fulfillment, and
joy.” This wisdom always stuck with me. Thoughts of the priesthood returned to me in high school as a senior
and especially in college. What helped give me the courage to say “yes” to this call was noticing that when I
resisted the priesthood, I simply had no peace; when I was open to making a gift of my life to God and to His
Church, there was an abiding peace and deep sense of joy.
Some of my interests include playing sports (especially basketball), running, and reading. Some of my experiences
as a seminarian include completing home repair projects in Appalachia, performing migrant ministry in Sandusky
County, and ministering as a hospital chaplain at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. My most recent
assignments as a seminarian were at my internship parish, Christ the King in Toledo, and at my summer parish
as a transitional deacon, Divine Mercy Parish in Paulding County.
What a blessing it is to become part of our parish communities here in Delphos, Landeck, and Spencerville.
Already, I have experienced such a warm welcome, and I am looking forward to continue to meet everyone in
the weeks and months ahead. Please keep me in your prayers as I begin my priestly ministry, and please know of
my prayers for you.
God bless,
Fr. Scott Perry
