1Group 6Essay testIt presents a problem and the student is to compose a response in paragraph form using his or her own words or ideas.It has 2 types: a) Restricted Response Type b) Extended Response Type

2 The examinee is required to provide limited response based on specified criterion for answering the question.Extended Response TypeThis essay type is allowing the test taker to write an in-depth sampling of his/her knowledge, thinking process and problem solving behavior relative to a specific topic.

Restricted Response Type 3Extended Response Type

It requires the test taker to present his/ her answer in several paragraphs or pages of writing.

It gives also more freedom to express ideas, opinions and use synthesizing skills to change knowledge into creative idea.

42. A question dealing with a controversial issue should ask for and be evaluated in terms of the presentation of evidence for a position, rather than the position taken.1. Restrict the use of essay questions to those learning outcomes that cannot be satisfactorily measured by objective items

3. State questions that require clear, specific and narrow task or topic to be performed.4. Phrase each question so that the students task is clearly defined or indicated.5. Avoid the use of optional questions.6. Indicate the approximate time limit or the number of points for each question to help the student complete the entire test and to give indications of the level of detail you have in mind for each item.

Content- The information included in an essay can and should be scored specifically for its presence and accuracy.2. Organization- Does the essay have an introduction, body and conclusion.

3. Process4. Accuracy/Reasonableness- Scorers must decide what is accurate but should be prepared for unexpected but accurate response.5. Completeness - To what extent does it sufficiently deal with the problem presented.6. Originality/Creativity- Scorers should expect that some students would develop new ways of conceptualizing questions, and credit should be awarded for such conceptualizations when appropriate.

7. Rating Methoda. Holistic Scoring- In this type of scoring, a total score is assigned to each essay question based on the teacher general impression or over-all assessment.b. Analytic Scoring- In this type of scoring, the essay is scored in terms of its components.

91. Use scoring scheme consistently.2. Remove or cover the names on the papers before beginning the scoring.3. Score each students answer to the same question before going on to the next question.4. Try to keep scores from previous items hidden when scoring subsequent items.5. Try to re-evaluate your papers before returning them.
