Eric Jackson - 30 Years at WGBH In May, legendary jazz host Eric Jackson celebrated 30 years of spinning great jazz music on 89.7 WGBH . JazzBoston, which hosts JazzWeek each spring in greater Boston, held a special tribute for Eric featuring an all-star jam at Scullers Jazz Club that included Danilo Perez, Grace Kelly, Rebecca Parris, John Payne and others. Fred Taylor produced the show. A few days later Regent Theatre in Arlington hosted a screening of classic jazz videos Jackson selected from the collection of jazz historian Hal Miller, including rare clips of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders and Sarah Vaughan. Jackson was roundly praised in local media as well, with feature stories in the Boston Herald, Boston Globe, Boston Phoenix and Jazz Times. Jackson told Boston Globe reporter Bill Beuttler that he was “extremely happy” with his career choice as a jazz host, adding, “First of all, it’s working around the music I love. I’ve met so many people that I just thought were great, and not only the musicians, but even the fans, the people that love the music.” Live Jazz in the Studio at WGBH Radio Every month, WGBH Radio, 89.7 FM, Boston presents live concerts in its state-of-the-art studios in Brighton to give listeners a chance to hear locally-based jazz musicians.
