‘If angels were perfect when created, why did Lucifer become so evil?’—‘Why would Eve listen to a talking snake?’—‘Why did

God create people if he knew so many would end up in hell?’These are just some of the many ‘interesting’ questions AiG speakers

have been asked at various conferences.Now, it is true that Answers in Genesis exists as a ministry to provide

answers to questions concerning the Bible, particularly in Genesis. In fact, because of all the scientifi c and theological research conducted by qualifi ed people associated with AiG, we do provide lots of answers—so we can do what is commanded in 1 Peter 3:15:

‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.’

At the same time, however, it’s also true that there are many ques-tions we can’t answer. Some involve scientifi c issues that need more research. (When I was a teenager, many answers now available in the resources we carry were simply not there.)

But there are some questions that we, as fallible, fi nite human beings, cannot provide ultimate answers to.

Demanding answersAt the end of a recent conference, three young men came up to

me and almost demanded answers to two of the questions above (the talking serpent in Genesis 3, and how could a good God have created Lucifer, knowing how evil he would become).

I can certainly attempt to offer some sort of answer to such ques-tions, but ultimately, I can’t give detailed answers, for the questions relate to matters God hasn’t revealed to us.

When confronted with such questions, I’m reminded of Deuter-onomy 29:29: ‘The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.’

What lessons can we all learn from this? First, regarding the things that God has clearly revealed in His Word, we can know them for sure, and speak authoritatively about them (e.g. the bodily Resurrection of Christ, the global Flood, etc.). We can also often conduct scientifi c research to show that science does confi rm the Bible’s statements.

For example, we can dogmatically assert that God created distinct kinds of animals and plants to reproduce after their own kind (Genesis 1).

Research concerning genetics, information theory and natural selection all confi rm the Bible’s teaching—as we would expect because the Bible is God’s infal-lible Word.

There are an infi nite number of things God hasn’t revealed to us. Such matters are the ‘secret’ things of God, and we should not be embarrassed if we can’t give detailed answers.

I do find, however, that many times (like the incident above), people ask such ques-tions because, having heard so many things in my lectures that confi rmed God’s Word, they thought that by asking questions I wouldn’t be able to answer, it would give them a way out. In other words, they didn’t have to believe the Bible.

As I watched them walk away believing they had stumped me, I couldn’t help but think of verses like John 3:19: ‘And this is the condem-nation, that light is come into the world, and men loved dark-ness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.’

Argue, confute, disputeIt reminds me that ulti-

mately the battle we’re involved in is a spiritual one. We need to be like the Apostle Paul and use as many arguments as we

can to convince people of the truth (we need to ‘argue,’ con-fute, powerfully dispute, etc.). However, in this ‘foolishness of preaching’ (I Cor. 1:21), we need to recognize that it is God who ultimately opens the heart of man who is ‘dead in trespasses and sin’ (Eph. 2:1).

As I talked to the young men, I turned the conversation to things related to biology, geology, etc., that I had already shared, which confi rmed over and over again that the Bible is what it claimed to be: the revealed Word of God.

But they kept coming back to questions we can’t give detailed answers to. This was their excuse why they didn’t have to believe God’s Word.

So, all we can do is pray that God would now use the words that were preached and His Word to bring them to a knowledge of the truth.

Praise God that for every person like that, we’ve seen many who have had their hearts opened. Dr Monty White of AiG-England just wrote to tell me of a man who had gone to one of my meetings in Coventry to ‘hear an idiot say he believed the Bible.’

Well, after a couple of min-utes he was ‘hooked,’ and by the end of the meeting was totally convinced that he could trust the Bible. He started attending church and within weeks he was gloriously converted.

And that’s what it’s all about!

After AiG president Ken Ham sent out a letter to ministry friends,

explaining how a woman in Wiscon-sin was putting a web link on her husband’s gravestone, AiG-US has gotten more letters and comments than possibly anything else Ken’s ever mailed out.

Christians are intrigued by the

possibility of putting a ‘link to the gospel’ on gravestones—and another lady (in Ohio) now plans to do the same thing.

Monica Cook of Wisconsin wrote AiG saying she wanted her husband’s recent death to be a means of reaching people with the gospel. She explains:

‘Since I couldn’t put the entire gospel message on his gravestone, I needed a roundabout way.

‘I decided on something that was easily accessible (every library has the internet), relevant to how people got information today (some people haven’t opened a book in years), relevant towards popular culture (our science-oriented one) and was interesting enough so people would stay on the website.’

It’s exciting to see how God is inspiring such creative efforts at creation evangelism!

An AiG supporter named Sonia wrote to us with a thrilling account of how ‘creation evangelism’ in the form of articles from AiG’s Creation magazine completely changed her life:

I suppose I was a typical ‘church kid’—once a week

to Sunday school and heard Bible stories. I also attended a ‘Christian’ school where I was taught evolution as fact in science. As far as I was concerned, I thought the teachers were a bunch of hypocrites.

I didn’t realize it then, but these teachings, along with the subtle evolutionary teachings from TV documentaries, museum displays, newspa-pers and magazines such as the National Geographic all played a major infl uence on my view of the world and how I should live it.

I was told that Genesis was a myth. When I questioned my mother about the days of creation, she told me that they represented millions of years. Basically what I was being told was that Genesis was a big fairy tale [which] led me to

believe that the Bible was a big lie. If God couldn’t tell the truth from the beginning, then when did He start?

Once I had rejected the Bible, I became rebellious.

When I met Darren [at work, he] started to talk to me about animals, plants, the universe, etc. He would photocopy long articles from Creation and bring them to me. Darren witnessed faithfully to me for two and a half years. Often I would ask a question that he couldn’t answer and he would tell me that he would try and fi nd it. Sure enough he would have the answer for me

the next day. Soon I became a Christian.

It was God’s grace in using the information from Darren which destroyed my faith in evolution and allowed me to see the power of the Creator God, which brought me to commitment in Christ. What then shocked me was to fi nd the church full of people who claimed to accept the Bible as written but who rejected the Genesis account of Creation. They preferred the views of men who don’t know every-thing [over] God’s infallible Word.

ends, mild-mannered Carl Kerby morphs

You may already be aware that if a person dies without making a

will (intestate), state law determines who receives the decedent’s property.

These laws tend to favor the surviving spouse, children and grandchildren fi rst, the parents and grandparents second and then siblings. These ‘statutory inheritance plans,’ however, do not take into consideration the desires of the decedent, even if known, and preclude even the possibility of a charitable gift from the estate. If the decedent’s relatives cannot be found, the property ‘escheats’ to the state.

As stewards of God’s property here on earth, Christians have a moral and spiritual obligation to administer their property in a faithful and trustworthy manner, based on God’s will and plan for their lives. This includes thoughtfully and prayerfully planning for the distribution of their estate in the event of death.

Secular anthropologists have been abuzz with

the discovery of ‘the earli-est humans’ or

‘our earliest ances-

tors’

in Ethiopia—dated at 160,000 years ago.

First, AiG has consis-tently shown the fallacies/assumptions in radioisotope dating. We have demon-strated obvious inconsisten-cies between supposedly infallible methods, such as wood ‘dated’ at thousands of years old via the radiocarbon method, while encased by lava which was ‘dated’ by the potassium-argon method at tens of millions of years!

Second, in a biblical framework of history, this Ethiopian fi nd is just one more example of fossil human bones, probably post-Babel and thus post-Flood (after 2400 bc)—noth-ing exciting. Based on current research, did you know that around 70%

of teenagers in church youth groups claim they’ll walk away from the church after they leave school? Since around 85% of teens in US churches attend public school, this is a serious problem.

Sadly, the church, by and large, doesn’t seem to see the connection. So, what does public school have to do with teens leaving the church?

I think the answer is clear. For generations, young people have been indoctrinated in most schools to believe secular, evolu-tionary history concerning geol-ogy, biology, etc. The things they learn in school directly contradict what the Bible says in Genesis about Creation, the Fall, the

global Flood and so on.Now teenagers are starting

to realize something. If they can’t trust the Bible’s history, why trust its message of salva-tion and morality based in that history?

Since the church appears disconnected from reality, teens are leaving it in droves. In place of church, they’re building their worldview based on secular his-tory. So if the church wants to reach the next generation, it has to go back to its roots in real history, beginning with Genesis, and counteract the false teaching that is indoctrinating millions of young people each year in public schools.
