Background

• What is the GDG?– Central access point for EPA’s geospatial resources

– EPA regions, programs, labs contribute geospatial metadata to the GDG• GDG Stewards manage records on behalf of their offices• “Unrestricted” metadata are shared with the public & external catalogs

– Metadata links to data, applications, services and other resources

– Users (internal & external) search the GDG for topics of interest• Climate Change• Air Quality• Environmental Justice

– Users can then• Access data and metadata• Reuse GDG Outputs in other venues

Next Steps

– EPA is expanding GDG to include all agency metadata• Will support the Data.gov standard and ingest/output Data.gov csv files

– Upgrading GDG to take advantage of Geoportal Server v 1.0 features (newest open source release)

– Aligns with direction of GOS & Data.gov

– Planning for expanded release in Spring 2011
