What is EOD?

EOD stands for eBooks on Demand, which means service, that offers opportunity to order high-quality digital copy (EOD eBook) of an old book

European libraries are hosting millions of books published from 1500 to 1900, which are out of copyright protection

Due to their age and value, they are often only accessible to users actually present at these libraries

The EOD service offers opportunity to acquire these old books that respond to your interests and needs for your own use in a digital form here and now

What is EOD eBook?

An EOD eBook is a digitised book delivered in the form of a PDF file

The file contains the image of the scanned original book as well as the automatically recognised full text

That means you can search the book for individual words and copy-paste the electronic full text into any other application software

Books published before 1800 may also be ordered with automatically recognised text, but the quality of the full text will not be the same

What is EOD eBook?

eBooks are easy to browse on your computer screen and you can do printouts of them

They are also easy to store in your computer or on CD/DVD and they take much less space than traditonal books

One eBook equals one file. You can save ordered books to your computer and create your own digital library

From 2009 these books can also be ordered as a Print on Demand book (the EOD reprint) in addition to the digital version

Enjoy full text search, it facilitates research work and frequent use of reference books

Click on the “Select Tool” in the toolbar and select the text you want to copy within the PDF file into any other application software. Then open your text processor and paste the copied text there using the Edit menu or a keyboard shortcut (e.g. Ctrl+V) in order to paste the text into your document. The full text on new document facilitates also reading of the old Gothic print

What kind of books are digitised?

eBook can be ordered from the books, which copyright is expired – that means all books published from 1500 to 1900

Some libraries also offering the digitisation of books beyond that timeframe, namely for special user groups, e.g. researchers or people who are visually impaired or blind

Are there any restrictions while using EOD eBooks ?

There are no big restrictions of using an eBook – it belongs to you as ordinary publication, DVD or music CD

You can use it for personal purposes, but it should not be hung to Intrenet (to make it available to third parties),

or disseminated for commercial purposes

Price of the EOD eBook

The EOD member libraries are free to set the price for their eBooks on Demand service. Due to the local, regional and national conditions, a wide variety of prices is given. We aim at standardising the price schemas (the basic price and price per page)

How to order eBooks?

It is possible to search and order eBooks through EOD libraries’ online catalogues or through common search engine on EOD network’s webpage which includes all joint libraries’ catalogues

If there is a button “EOD – digital on request” next to book’s bibliografical record, then you can order an eBook of that

You will see the estimated price of the digitisation

Then choose if you want to download the eBook or receive it on CD/DVD-ROM

Books in good conditions are scanned within 10 working days

If the book needs restoration prior to scanning, or upon other exceptional circumstances, a customer will be notified accordingly

When the eBook is ready, you will receive an e-mail requesting to choose the payment option

After successful payment process the EOD eBook can be downloaded, received on CD/DVD or shipped as Print on Demand book
