On Saturday, February 22, 2020, 9:30 am - 12:45 pm, is happy to invite you to a clinical training: About the Presenter: Adrienne Harris is a noted psychoanalytic scholar and one of the leading figures in Relational Psychoanalysis. In 1996, Adrienne Harris and Lewis Aron edited The Legacy of Sandor Ferenczi, which reintroduced the work of Ferenczi to the American audience and played a significant role in the relational shift within the American psychoanalysis. In 2009, she, Lewis Aron, and Jeremy Safron established the Sandor Ferenczi Center at the New School University. Presently, Dr. Harris edits the Stephen Mitchell Relational Book Series, is an Associate Editor of Psychoanalytic Dialogues, Studies in Gender and Sexuality, and Psychoanalytic Perspectives, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association and American Imago. An analyst in private practice in New York City, she is also Faculty and Supervisor at New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. Her professional interests are the analytic subjectivity, gender and development, social construction of gender identities, echoes of the past historic traumas, and the impact of social and political contexts on theory and practice in psychoanalysis. Dr. Harris is the 2018 recipient of the Helen Meyers Traveling Psychoanalytic Scholar Award. This award aims to promote dialogue and shared learning among women in psychoanalysis on women's issues. Overview of the Course: This training explores our experience of gender and gender differences through the lens of relational psychoanalysis, models of gender development, and intersectionality. In her lecture, Dr. Adrienne Harris, using clinical and theoretical material, will consider contemporary psychoanalytic and developmental perspectives on gender and sexuality in both their polarized binary forms and in their fluidity and uncertainty. She will address the long difficult history in psychoanalysis and in our culture in regard to the topics of envy and misogyny, look at theoretical, clinical and political issues raised by these concepts, and delve into difficulties and strategies when addressing them clinically. Questions from the audience and a discussion will follow. After a short break, Anna Zozulinsky, PhD, will present to Dr. Harris a clinical case of a long- term RAMS client where these aspects of psychic life are salient. Dr. Harris will discuss the case, including an hour of process notes, in the light of the concepts she put forth in her presentation.
