About the Presenter: AdrienneHarrisisanotedpsychoanalyticscholarandoneoftheleadingfiguresinRelationalPsychoanalysis.In1996,AdrienneHarrisandLewisAroneditedTheLegacyofSandorFerenczi,whichreintroducedtheworkofFerenczitotheAmericanaudienceandplayedasignificantroleintherelationalshiftwithintheAmericanpsychoanalysis.In2009,she,LewisAron,andJeremySafronestablishedtheSandorFerencziCenterattheNewSchoolUniversity.Presently,Dr.HarriseditstheStephenMitchellRelationalBookSeries,isanAssociateEditorofPsychoanalyticDialogues,StudiesinGenderandSexuality,andPsychoanalyticPerspectives,andisontheeditorialboardoftheJournaloftheAmericanPsychoanalyticAssociationandAmericanImago.AnanalystinprivatepracticeinNewYorkCity,sheisalsoFacultyandSupervisoratNewYorkUniversityPostdoctoralPrograminPsychotherapyandatthePsychoanalyticInstituteofNorthernCalifornia.Herprofessionalinterestsaretheanalyticsubjectivity,genderanddevelopment,socialconstructionofgenderidentities,echoesofthepasthistorictraumas,andtheimpactofsocialandpoliticalcontextsontheoryandpracticeinpsychoanalysis.Dr.Harrisisthe2018recipientoftheHelenMeyersTravelingPsychoanalyticScholarAward.Thisawardaimstopromotedialogueandsharedlearningamongwomeninpsychoanalysisonwomen'sissues.
Overview of the Course: Thistrainingexploresourexperienceofgenderandgenderdifferencesthroughthelensofrelationalpsychoanalysis,modelsofgenderdevelopment,andintersectionality.Inherlecture,Dr.AdrienneHarris,usingclinicalandtheoreticalmaterial,willconsidercontemporarypsychoanalyticanddevelopmentalperspectivesongenderandsexualityinboththeirpolarizedbinaryformsandintheirfluidityanduncertainty.Shewilladdressthelongdifficulthistoryinpsychoanalysisandinourcultureinregardtothetopicsofenvyandmisogyny,lookattheoretical,clinicalandpoliticalissuesraisedbytheseconcepts,anddelveintodifficultiesandstrategieswhenaddressingthemclinically.Questionsfromtheaudienceandadiscussionwillfollow.Afterashortbreak,AnnaZozulinsky,PhD,willpresenttoDr.Harrisaclinicalcaseofalong-termRAMSclientwheretheseaspectsofpsychiclifearesalient.Dr.Harriswilldiscussthecase,includinganhourofprocessnotes,inthelightoftheconceptssheputforthinherpresentation.
