Enviro-Pig!•Enviro-Pigs are genetically engineered pigs made to reduce phosphorus output in feces.•Enviro-Pigs are beneficial to us because they can improve our meat.•Its purpose is to cut down on phosphorus in pigs’ feces.•Once the pigs get rid of the phosphorus stuff in their feces, they still have it in their meat, which eventually ends up in you because you eat the meat.

*The Enviro-Pig was studied by scientists in Canada.

Ethanol (Biofuel)

•Ethanol (which is also called ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, and abbreviated as EtOH) is a fuel that is mixed with gas to make a fuel with a higher amount of octane and contains less harmful substances than un-mixed gasoline.

•Since Biofuel (ethanol) are made from agriculture crops, farmers can produce a lot of them.

•Ethanol boosts the octane in the gasoline.

•Ethanol burns cleaner than fossil fuels.

•The price of many items will rise.

* Ethanol was studied in California.

Composting!• Composting makes the soil rich in nutrients by

adding much of the needed microorganisms.• Composting great soil takes almost a decade.• Very high in nutrients for the soil.• Has an extremely horrible smell (cow poop!)

*Composting was founded officially bySir Albert Howard, a British agronomist.

Biodegradable Products• Degradable products are made from plastic materials that are oil or petroleum

based.• BIOdegradable products are made from plastic materials that are oil or petroleum

base and are capable of being decomposed.• Biodegradable products include: Cups Trash bags Cutlery Containers Tableware • Pro: It is better for the environment and should eventually stop landfills.• Con: Strength of biodegradable material is poor compared to regular plastic.

*Most of Biodegradable products we use today were studied in Australia.

Plastic Products Made From Corn

• These are any plastic products that are made from corn!

• The purpose of plastic products made from corn is to use renewable resources. We are running out of nonrenewable resources.

• PLA contains no toxins what-so-ever.

• The cost will soon increase.

*These products from corn were also studied in Australia.

Questions• Question: Would you eat meat from an enviro-pig? Why or why not?

Answer: NO! Just because phosphorus is reduced in feces doesn’t mean its reduced in the meat. DON’T EAT THE MEAT!

• Question: How Much Does it Cost to Use Ethanol? Answer: It varies on location, but it is usually cheaper than regular gasoline.

• Question: What size should a compost pile be?Answer: Your pile should be 3-4 feet high.

• Question: How long do these products take to decompose?Answer: These materials take about 1,000 years to start decomposing. *I know, scary right?

• Question: Do you think these materials are durable?Answer: They are not as durable as regular plastic, but they hold in your drink!
