TODAY’S READINGS

Gospel at the Procession with Palms — Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem (Mark 11:1-10 or John 12:12-16). First Reading — In spite of my sufferings I am not disgraced. I am not put to shame (Isaiah 50:4-7). Psalm — My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? (Psalm 22). Second Reading — Christ emptied himself, and God filled this emptiness with exaltation (Philippians 2:6-11). Gospel — The account of Christ’s passion according to Mark (Mark 14:1 — 15:47 [15:1-39]).

OUR HOLY WEEK BEGINS "Easter is itself the cry of victory. No one can quench that life that Christ has resurrected. Neither death nor all the banners of death and hatred raised against him and against his church can prevail. He is the victorious one! Just as he will thrive in an unending Easter, so we must accompany him in a Lent and a Holy Week of cross, sacrifice, and martyrdom. Blessed are they who are not scandalized by his cross. Those who have Christian faith and hope know that behind this Calvary lies our Easter, our resurrection. That is our hope." - Archbishop Oscar Romero Although we call this week ‘holy’, it really isn’t the final week of Lent, because it isn’t to be counted as an entire week. We begin with a palm waving procession and listen to the re-telling of the Passion of the Lord. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until evening are actually the final days of Lent. These are the days when we are to be busy doing everything we need to do so that we can direct our full attention to the Paschal Three Days which begin on Holy Thursday with our evening service. These three days are not Lent; they are their own liturgical season – really one long ritual where we travel with Jesus through his dying to his resurrection. Come and witness to your desire to be one with Jesus by attending our Holy Thursday Mass at 7 p.m. Allow your feet to be washed and enter into our Eucharistic procession and time of adoration. Our Good Friday service will be at 3 p.m. and we will listen to the telling of our Lord’s Passion once again and embrace with faith the cross that each of us must bear in our life. Welcome those who will enter our Church through their baptism at the 8:00 p.m. Saturday Vigil, feel the water that reminds us of our own Baptisms and renew your own faith. Please try to be at Church as much as you can to fully experience this most important time of our faith life. Parents, introduce your children to these holy rituals that mark us as Catholic. Consider caring enough to invite someone to come with you to share this Holy Week. Your voice may be the means that God has chosen to reach out to someone who really needs to re-discover their own faith this year. If you have been trying to keep a good Lent, it has all been to prepare to enter fully into these coming days and to celebrate the Fifty Days of Eastertime with joy and wonder. If your Lent has been less than perfect, come and know the power of God’s love for you – a love that is unconditional and unending. Father Tom K

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

March 29, 2015

[Christ Jesus] humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death,

even death on a cross.

— Philippians 2:8

Dear Friends, Please enjoy this week’s Lenten reflection from, “Let Jesus Lead the Way: Daily Reflections, Practices & Prayers,” by Joseph Sica, and published by Twenty Third Publications. As we begin Holy Week, perhaps we can put the article’s advice to practice as we make a final push toward Easter greatness!

“A tabloid tongue”

“Pilate asked him, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ He answered him, ‘you say so.”’ Mark 15:2

“The tabloids scream of it, and we laugh or shake our heads. But what about us? Is gossip a part of our lives too? Let’s face it: gossip is enticing. We all want to know ‘the scoop.’ It’s easy to fall into a pattern of repeating stuff that is only half true; stuff that can cause some real damage. And then we justify it by saying ‘other people need to know about this.’ “At one time or another, we’ve all found ourselves drawn to listening to the ‘dirt’ about others. Hearing negative news about someone we know somehow makes us feel better about ourselves. ‘At least I’m not that bad.’ Yet, our tongue has the power to ruin a person’s character and wound their spirit. “It’s time to develop gossip awareness with CTN. “Call people out when they start casting an unflattering light on someone. “Think before the words leave your mouth. Are they building a person up or tearing them down? “Never say something about someone that you wouldn’t say to their face. Give them the chance to respond or just don’t say it. “Memorize this: ‘Have you heard a negative word about your neighbor? Let it die within you.’ Then stay off Facebook, IM, and the phone. Be quiet.”

God bless you,

Teri Klopp

Hungering for Seeds of Home

We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as he enters into Jerusalem, a community he knew well. CRS Rice Bowl asks us, too, to prayerfully enter into our own communities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty, who need our help. How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we encounter in our daily lives?

Food Drive Sunday is Coming!!!

The Outreach Committee has designated the fourth Sunday (weekend) of every month as Food Drive Sunday! The shelves of the Catholic Charities Food Pantry at St. Irenaeus Church, which we collectively sponsor, is full of food at the holidays—due to the generosity of our parishioners and the parishioners of our sister churches. However, once the holidays are over, the poor and the needy again go unnoticed. We would like to insure that the wonderful people of St. Kieran Church will have a part in making food available to those in need all year round. Each month, before the last full weekend of the month, a list of needed supplies will be printed in the bulletin and available by the food bin. Our St. Kieran shopping bags will also be available in the food bin for our parishioners to take home and fill, if they have the means. If you can’t fill a bag, please consider bringing a few cans or boxes of food stuffs for the collection. Make sure your donation is here, in the food bin, by the last weekend of the month. Our first Food Drive Sunday will be the weekend of April 25-26, 2015. Please take a shopping bag home to remind you that the Food Drive will take place. We thank you in advance for your continued generosity in reaching out to those who need it most. God bless you all for your efforts on behalf of God’s people!

THE FIRST DICIPLES OF JESUS ASKED “RABBI (TEACHER),

WHERE DO YOU STAY?” JESUS ANSWRED “COME AND SEE”

The Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN, extended this invitation to Catholics women (ages 18-42) who are interested in learning more about this community’s ministry, way of life, and unique charism. COME AND SEE...and interact with other women exploring religious life. Interact with women in formation who attend a Come and See weekend and were drawn to join the community of the Sisters of Providence. COME AND SEE...and explore opportunities of personal reflection while enjoying the comfort of sharing with others. Presenters will share their life experiences with you. The campus of St. Mary-of-the-Woods is the home of the beautiful new shrine of St. Mother Theodore Guerin, foundress of the Sisters of Providence 175 years ago.
