President’s Report -Hello to all members and friends. Well we are into 2018 now and I am looking forward to a great year of entertainment. 2017 was a good year for the club and I, along with the committee, hope we can emulate or improve in 2018.I must again inform members that there will be no country music program on April 1st as this day falls in the Easter period and the Slovenian club closes up for this season of the year. As a result of this the Country Call will extended to cover March, April and May 2018. This being, I will not be available to write a report in the next issue as I will be on leave for 6 weeks in Ireland from 9th May to 21st June. I am sure my duty will be covered by another Committee person in my absence. There has not been a Vice President for the past 2 years and as such it would be an advantage for the committee if an applicant would step up to cover this vacancy. The Slovenian club have purchased new chairs for the club and these will be set up for our next club meeting. We are replacing the old plastic table cloths with a more durable cloths in order to improve the table conditions. The white drapes covering the walls of the club will remain for some time as the Slovenian club committee want to improve the image of the hall and along with extra lighting make the venue more like a ‘cosy retreat’ and have more appeal for outside bodies that may wish to hire the club. There will be more improvements made to different areas of the venue to improve conditions. Our country music club will assist them in any way possible. On Saturday 10th, myself and seven other committee and members attended the Slovenian Pustorvanje Karnervale cabaret at the Slovenian club. It was a fund raising event also a celebration of ‘change of season’, putting it broadly. What a wonderful night it was. 300 plus people in attendance, fantastic music, food and dance entertainment. The drapes and lighting really set the place off. Consider attending this, or other events, the Slovenians put on in the future.

It was great to see Jack Callas back at the club after an extended stay in hospital and at home recuperating. In January we had Peter Symonds and the City Cowboys. Our guest artist was a late withdrawal and so we had invited walk-ups, Raelz, Steve Tripodi, Paul Walker and John Battle from NSW. It was a really good day. In February we were entertained by Craig Giles and Heartland along with a young lass named Gemma Tiller. It was a brilliant day with a large crowd who appreciated every minute of the day.The committee passed a motion to award Gemma Tiller the Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial award for 2017. Gemma has the potential to become a very good artist which can be assisted by the monetary award towards voice training or any other assistance she may choose to further her career. Congratulations Gemma. Our next show in March will be Jay J. Shannon and Winchester along with Guest artist Tiffney Reynolds. Should be a good day. No show in April and then on May 6th the Juke Box Boys will perform along with guest artist Joe Musico.Keep it countryDean Beviss. President

After entering some talent quests, Graham was invited to play rhythm guitar in a country cabaret band, ‘Bruno and Memphis’. From the Bluegrass set of this band, Graham went on to form a hot Bluegrass outfit with Dwayne Elix, called ‘Honky Stomp’. When Dwayne departed for the bright lights of Sydney, Graham rekindled the old magic with Cutty and reached out for fresh pickers forming ‘Customline’. from Southern Reign bio. Graham also played in Compact Country.

Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial FundSubject to certain conditions, the purpose of the fund is to assist younger talent with proven ability: a) in entering talent quests throughout South Australia, Mildura and Tamworth, b) by payment or part payment of professional tuition, and c) towards the cost of a musical instrument. The fund is administered by the ACMC committee with expenditure limited to the interest from capital invested (plus raffles from time to time), with all payments made to the appropriate body. Annually an awardee is chosen by the Full Committee. Contributions to the fund, which may be made to the club treasurer at any time will be acknowledged in the club newsletter.
After Lorraine’s passing the fund was renamed to include Lorraine’s name. The selection procedure has had to be changed slightly as there are fewer talent contests held at present than in the past.
