PRINCIPAL REPORT KINDERGARTEN 2021 Attached to the front page of this newsletter is information regarding transition dates for our Kindergarten transition program ‘Newbees’ including the Information Evening to be held on Thursday 3 September at 6.30pm. Can I encourage all families to please make contact with the office as soon as possible to enquire about enrolment for 2021 so the school has a clear understanding of enrolment and staffing considerations for Kindergarten. ANTICIPATED ENROLMENTS 2021 To ensure effective and timely staffing of all schools the Department of Education requires anticipated enrolments for 2021. I therefore request any families who will not be at Bateau Bay Public School next year (this does not include Year 6 students who are moving to high school) to please contact the office by phone or emailing the school. This is critical to ensure we have a clear picture of enrolments and parents are kindly requested to make contact with the office if your circumstances change later in the year. As a school we can only plan based on the information we are provided by families. STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY TERM 3 On Monday 20 July staff will be involved in mandatory compliance training in CPR, as well as collaborative planning for teaching and learning in mathematics. Staff development days provide unique opportunities for staff to collaborate and improve curriculum, student wellbeing and support practices. Staff return on Monday 20 July followed by all students K-6 on Tuesday 21 July. HAMPERS Last week Mrs Cornish (School Chaplain) and Mr Waite (Deputy Principal) worked closely with community organisations at The Entrance Public School to provide some our families a hamper of fresh food and vegetables. These hampers were well received by families and I want to thank Mrs Cornish and Mr Waite for their commitment to the initiative and their tireless work throughout the day to deliver these hampers. CONTACTING THE OFFICE The school front office receives a high volume of phone calls each day regarding the change in afternoon routines. We do our utmost to deliver these messages to the students. To eleviate parent concerns, we will ask that you remain on the phone while we make contact with the class teacher. ATHLETICS AND CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVALS The school Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 28 August 2020 at Mingara Athletics Track. The school Cross Country Carnival will be held on Tuesday 15 September 2020 at the school. A Tuggerah Lakes carnival will follow both of these events in Term 4. There are No Sydney and NSW State PSSA Athletics and Cross country carnivals this year. This decision was made by the NSW PSSA. At this stage, parents will not be able to attend any of the sports carnivals but the school remains hopeful that this situation will change prior to the events.

EDUCATION WEEK This year Education Week in NSW Public Schools will be celebrated in the week commencing Monday 3 August. The wonderful work of teachers, the supportive community and the achievement of students is acknowledged and the outcomes we deliver in public schools is something of which we should feel proud. The theme for Education Week 2020 is Learning together. It's a theme that reflects an incredible year for NSW public school students, staff and parents, and the partnerships that have been strengthened in response. This Education Week, we embrace the whole NSW public education community, highlighting the achievements of local schools and the role of public schools as the cornerstone of their communities. Due to current restrictions we will be unable to hold regular activities but more information will be provided next term regarding our planned activities.

COMMUNITY CHARTER Attached to the newsletter is the NSW Department of Education’s Community Charter. This document outlines the way in which NSW Public Schools work to create a positive environment for students, staff and the entire school community that support students learning. At our school we strive to ensure that every student is known, valued and cared for. I encourage all parents and carers to read this document to play your part for our school community.

SCHOOL SECURITY As we approach the school holidays it’s important to make the community aware of important safety processes involved in our school site. Community members are encouraged to make contact with school security on 1300 880 021 if they notice anything unusual or suspicious over the holiday period. Some teaching staff may be at school and our general assistant will be working as normal. Some maintenance work will be occurring including the removal of a small demountable toilet and painting in the admin area however outside regular work day hours including weekends parents are asked if they notice anything strange driving past to make contact with school security. Your support is greatly appreciated by our entire school community.

END OF TERM As this is the final newsletter for the term I wish to thank the Bateau Bay community for welcoming me to the school. This term can only be described as extraordinary and I thank the staff for their flexibility and commitment in providing a consistent, safe environment for students to learn. Thank you to all parents and carers who have followed guidelines and adhered to social distancing around the outside of the school. I look forward to next term with a number of events including Education Week. Enjoy the break with your children and take the time to relax. Staff return on Monday 20 July followed by all students on Tuesday 21 July.

Have a great week at our great public school.

HOME READING SCHEME Congratulations to the following students who have received book prizes for their enthusiasm and dedication to home reading:

BUDDIES WITH 4GF AND 1M The students from 4GF and 1M have been busy making grass heads. The year four students worked together with their year one buddie to put the seeds and soil into the stocking. They were then given the opportunity to decorate and make their grass heads unique. We have all enjoyed watching their hair grow and taking on the responsibility of watering them.
