Introduction
English Medium Teachers’ Induction Programme
The document on hand is a narration of the events and proceedings of
The English Medium Teachers Induction program conducted at DIET
Mannur Belgaum.
Time Schedule
Induction program was conducted of 15 days that is from 13/05/2019
to 27/05/2019.each day of the program started at 9.20am to 5.30pm.
Training goals:
The main objective of the training was to motivate and prepare the
teachers from the new English medium sections school from Belagavi
district. The teacher were introduced with concepts like integrated
teaching, learning out comes and assessment, pedagogical process,
language across curriculum, a language rich environment,
storytelling, picture reading etc.
Contents:
Module prepared by DSERT in collaboration with Samagra
Shikshana – Karnataka, with support from RIESI Bangaluru.

Inauguration by Shri Ravi Baligar and Shri Uday Hunkuppi
The training session started with the inauguration. English Medium
Teachers’ induction program was inaugurated by Shri. Ravi T.
Baligar Vice Principal, DIET Mannur on 13th May 2019. The nodal
officer Shri Uday Hunkuppi and Smt. Prabhavati Patil senior DIET
faculty were also present. Shri Uday Hunkuppi welcomed and gave a
brief introduction of the programme. Shri Ravi T. Baligar addressed
the trainees and high lightened the importance of the programme.
After the ice breaking context and vision of English Medium Sections
in Government Schools was discussed the participants came up
with different ideas. Post discussion the participants had better idea of
their role and they seemed to sense the challenge that lay ahead of
them.
Potentials and capabilities of children need to be understood the
needs of the different types of learners need to be understood.
Marginalized children and different types of learners, their necessity

was discussed and understood. Creating a language rich environment
is the prime necessity.
LSRW skills were also discussed and a lot of group and individual
activities were conducted. Participants prepare for the demo classes.
The class was divided in to four teams and MRP accordingly
observed their classes and suggested for improvement of
communicative language, choosing activities adequate to the learning
out come and take special care to see that it is relevant to the level of
standard 1learners.
A mid way feedback work sheet provided by Ms. Aanchal APF was
completed by the trainees. At the end of the induction program
another feedback was taken from the trainees. The feedback forms
reflected that they needed training for communicative and spoken
English.
DIET principal Shri M. M. Sindur insisted the trainees to speak in
English from day one of the induction program. He often visited the
English Medium Teachers’ Induction Programme
training session, motivated the trainees gave suggestions for
improvement and interacted with them.
Facilitation was done by the MRPs through different methods. Group
discussions, group tasks, individual tasks were given. Story telling by
different methods and techniques was done. Narration, role play,
conversation, hand puppets, stick puppets, props and many more
techniques used while story telling. Story narration by using various
voice modulations was done. Gestures and body language were well
understood by the trainees.
Official Visit:
1. Shri Kenchegauda (Deputy Director) DSERT visited on day VI
of the programme and motivated the participants regarding
Historical Project of Karnataka.

2. Shri Prasanna Kumar (Joint Director) Belagavi visited on day
IX of the programme and spoke to the participants about the
different ways in which the students can be made to speak
English language and exhibit their talents through speaking and
other various activities.
3. Shri Anand Pundalik DDPI (administration) Belagavi visited on
day 12 and discussed about administrative doubts that the
trainees and their respected schools had.

4. Shri Nagaraj Kale (Senior Lecturer) CTE Belagavi visited and
discussed about the contents of the teacher’s hand book and also
gave clear information about learning out comes.
5. Shri Mahadev Bellannavar (EO) Belagavi, Shri Millanatti (Mid
Meal) Belagavi, Shri Hiremath (Senior Lecturer) CTE Belagavi
visited the training venue and discussed the importance of
spoken English.
6. Bidar DIET Principal also visited on day 14 and observed the
class.

Conclusion and Recommendation:
The training programme was conducted successfully and all the
participants took active part in the 15 day induction programme.
Few themes like Language Across the Curriculum, Building a
Language Rich Environment, Multilingual Approach – Code
switching and Code mixing, proper pedagogical processes,
Learning Outcomes and Assessment plans were the concepts which
though seemed new, were familiar to them and now were in clear
form.
