Rising intonation is when your voice rises in pitch, such as at the ends of some questions. Rising intonation is quite difficult to describe in words. When we speak, our voices do much more than rise or fall. The sentence may start higher or lower; stressed syllables may be stronger or weaker, higher or lower, louder or quieter, quicker or slower; can be answered with a ‘yes ‘ or a “no’. example: "Is anybody there?" "May I help you?" "Did you have fun at the party?" Falling intonation is just the opposite. The voice lowers in pitch at the ends of sentences, including some questions. Falling intonation is the most common type of intonation in English. It is used in statements (declarative sentences), special questions, commands (imperative sentences) exclamatory sentences, in the first part of disjunctive questions and in the last part of alternative questions. example : "Oh, dear. I was afraid that would happen." "How much does that dress cost?" "How can I help you?"
