Study Points: Newspapers all over the world are now facing a challenge against other forms of mass communication. Radio and television, in some ways, provide a better news service. For, while newspapers can bring news of an event within hours of its happening, radio and television can do it within minutes or even while it is still going on. Best newspapers do something that these other information services cannot. They provide a wealth of detail and full background information services cannot. They provide a wealth of detail and full background information of the news of the day and in written form. Newspaper are for more a part of a community than radio and television. They are cheaper to buy than radios and television sets, and there is a publication for every taste and particular opinion. containing news, comments, features and advertisements.
Parts of a Newspaper
1. Front Page – contains the most important news and most recent developments in our country and abroad.
2. Headline – is a part of the front page which contains the title written in bold letters for the readers to see easily.
3. Editorial – is an article which gives the opinions or comments of the editor or publisher.
4. Business – contains articles or subjects like developments and trends in the fields of economics, banking or finance.
5. International News – contains news or articles about other countries.
6. Lifestyle – contains articles on beauty, fashion, food, arts and culture, travel, and the like.
7. Sports Page – features the latest news and developments in sports, such as basketball, bowling, tennis and boxing.
8. Entertainment Features – news or articles about movies, theater, television, music and dance.
9. Movie Guide – provides a listing of movies currently showing or about to be shown.
10. Classified Ads – contains notices or advertisements on employment opportunities.
11. An obituary – is a listing of persons who recently died, or of death anniversaries.

2. Local and foreign news- These are news items of lesser importance.
3. Editorial- the article written by the editor expressing his opinion about the latest development or news of national interest.
4. Features stories- these are special stories in different fields.
5. Articles of opinion or commentaries and views- these are articles expressing the views and comments of writers or notable personalities.
6. Obituary- This is a listing of persons who recently died, or of death anniversaries.
7. Fun page- This includes puzzles and comic strips for entertainment.
