• Colony was extremely prepared for life in the New World

• Dissenters did not agree with everything happening in the colony!– Roger Williams: Wanted the

church to separate from the leadership of the colony

– Anne Hutchinson: Felt people could interpret the Bible without a preacher

• Climate: Cold, snowy• Crops: Corn, wheat, beans, squash• Subsistent Farmers who grew

enough for their families to eat• Turned to the sea for fish and

Salem Witch Trials

• Series of hearings in front of local magistrates to prosecute people accused of being witches

• 26 went to trial and were found guilty

• Witches were hanged
