•Stimulates investment in local economic infrastructure in developing countries

•Creates sustainable livelihoods for workers and farmers

•Allows access to health care and education

•Most importantly, it empowers farmers and workers with more control over their lives.

What are the general standards for a product to be certified “Fair Trade?”

•Must be imported as directly as possibly

•Must provide a fair price

•Importer must adhere to a long-term commitment with the Fair Trade cooperative

•Cooperatives must abide by certain environmental standards
