I hope everyone had a great

January and beginning of

the New Year! I am writing

this message in the mist of

our first snow storm of

2016. I hope that everyone was able to be

off work and get to play a little in the

snow. For those of you traveling to Or-

lando for the AHRI Expo and ASHRAE

Winter Meeting, I hope you have safe

travels.

February is a big month for Student

Activities. The week of February 21-27

is DiscoverE, or formally known as Na-

tional Engineers Week. Our Grassroots

Government Advocacy Chair, Chance

Hollingsworth, was able to have our

Governor, Asa Hutchison, sign a procla-

mation proclaiming this week as National

Engineers Week in Arkansas. Chance

Hollingsworth, Josh Faulkner, Ron

McCarty and I had a chance to meet the

Governor and have a photo opportunity

with him and the signed proclamation.

Our Student Activities Chair, Josh

Faulkner will be setting up multiple ap-

pointments with local K-12 schools in

Central Arkansas that week for our

Chapter Officers and members to pro-

mote Science, Technology, Engineering

and Mathematics (STEM) to students at

these schools. Many of

our members have al-

ready stepped up the

plate and have made

visits to some schools

already. If you are inter-

ested in participating in

this event, please let

myself or Josh Faulkner

know. We cannot rely

on educators alone to

improve student interest

in STEM subjects. By

having skilled volun-

teers (such as our

ASHRAE members),

we can partner with our schools to pro-

vide even further detailed knowledge

about these subjects as they apply to all

of our daily lives.

Regions VIII CRC is right around the

corner. This year’s CRC will be held

April 28-30 in Tyler Texas, home to the

East Texas Chapter. See the flyer in this

month’s newsletter for further infor-

mation on event registration, social

events, various activities, and hotel reser-

vations. With Tyler being within driving

distance from Little Rock, I strongly en-

courage not just our Chapter Officers and

Chairs to attend, but also our member-

ship as well.

In closing, I would like to remind

everyone of a venue change for our Feb-

ruary program. This will be held at Pu-

laski Technical College Culinary Arts

Institute. We will have a program by Jim

Caylor on “Ammonia Use in Refrigera-

tion and A/C Applications” as well as a

tour of the facility. Last but not least,

please be sure to RSVP for this event as

we will have a limited number of spots

available. We will have another $50

drawing this month for all of those that

RSVP early.
