Fire alarms:

The fire alarms in the Rayne Institute are not regularly tested as this affects hospital systems. The alarm system is a continuous bell to signal evacuation and an intermittent to signal alert. During alert-mode users are not required to vacate the area. During Continuous-mode user MUST vacate the area.

The alarm system is also zonal (i.e. an alarm will evacuate area, zone by zone). This means an alarm on the 4th floor will not mean an alarm on all other floors. Users can vacate from an alarming zone to a non-alarming zone.

Fire points:

Red alarm call points are positioned around the 3rd & 4th floor, please familiarise yourself with them. Breaking these will automatically activate to sound on the floor of the fire but not in the rest of the building, and summon the fire brigade.

Green emergency door release panels are situated near emergency exits, breaking these will open the door if the green push buttons fail.

Fire evacuation:

Once a fire alarm has sounded, you must evacuate the area as rapidly and safely as possible closing doors behind you as you leave. ALWAYS USE THE NEAREST FIRE EXIT and DO NOT return to collect personal items or use the lifts.

Evacuation marshals, who wear fluorescent yellow jackets, may be present in the area. Follow their advice and proceed to your assembly point. The assembly point is located outside the Lambeth Wing, on the ground floor on the walkway to Gassiot House.

Report any information regarding hazards or casualties to the fire marshals or emergency services. Only re-enter the building when instructed to do so.
