DRIVER AUTHORIZATION FORMS

We are so fortunate to have parent volunteers that are willing to drive stu-

dents to local field trips and sport events. We do however need all parent

volunteers to sign a driver authorization form and provide the school with a

copy of their current insurance (pink card) and driver’s license. This form is

attached to this newsletter. Please fill out and return to the school as soon

as possible along with a copy of your insurance and driver’s license.

Principal’s Message – October 2015

October is usually the second busiest month of the year, which is no surprise to anyone who works in a school as every month seems busier than the last. October usually means that winter is coming and the cool days of autumn are upon us. A reminder to parents to ensure that students dress for the weather and if it is cool or cold a good jacket will keep your child warm when they got outside at recess times. Coming up in November is our School Casino which will be held on Thursday November 19

th and

Friday November 20th. Our Casino Chairperson, Mrs. Gidget Howg, is looking for volunteers to

work at the casino on one of those two days (or both if you can). The school needs to have 20 vol-unteers on the list in order to work the casino, and at present we have only 7 people so far. Please consider volunteering to help our school as all money raised helps to pay for various projects and field trips for our students here at the school. Please call the office and let Mrs. Diane Howg (our secretary) know you can help out on one of those dates. There is a form that needs to be sent in. On Fridays, when we have school, we offer a special period for all students in Grades 1 to 9 to work using their 21

st Century Skills and the Horizon School Division goal of engaged thinkers as eth-

ical citizens with an entrepreneurial spirit. Students have been organized into groups for our Inter-vention Manipulatives Activity. Each group goes to one activity for the 40 minutes of the last period on Friday. The five main focuses are: Computer Games, Ipad Games, Card Games, Physical Games and Board Games. Each activity provides the opportunity for students to play or try new things in collaboration with others – games are a great way for kids to communicate and work to-gether to achieve common goals (a large part of 21

st Century Learning). Learning the rules to vari-

ous games, how to take turns, how to develop thinking skills (depending on the game), memoriza-tion, proper etiquette, counting skills, drawing skills, playing together with students of different skills and abilities and ages also helps students to make connections for life-long learning. We have only had one day so far, but we are looking forward to more happening in October – October 2

16th.

A big thank you to those parents who were able to join us for our first Enchant School Advisory Council meeting on September 22

nd. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday November 3

rd at

6:30pm. All parents are welcome. At present, we are looking for some to be our school council chairperson. Thank you to Mrs. Amie Lanois-Keats for being our chairperson last year. Duties in-clude: attending ESAC meetings, helping to get out information to parents, lead the meetings (Mr. Schmidt helps with this), and coordinates with Mr. Schmidt any information to be presented. The time commitment is not much, but it is great when someone from our parent community is available and willing to help out. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call at the school to find out more. Lastly, a couple of more thank you’s –“Thank You” to the parents and staff who helped with the Wel-come Back BBQ over at Enchant Park, to Mrs. Edna Thiessen for leading our German program, to Mrs. Cindy Kurek and Mr. Jeff Frostad for coaching our volleyball teams, to Mr. Leni Howg and Mrs. Helen Guenther for getting our school clean over the summer, and to the staff and students for a great start to the school year. CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS

We have had an terrific start in kindergarten! Students have been working very hard at learning school routines as well as some letter sounds, numbers and printing their name. Our theme has been centered around autumn and watching for signs during the fall season. Thanks to all parents for your support of the kindergarten program so far; bringing students in for orientation and it was great to see many of you at the back to school barbecue. I am looking forward to a great school year ahead! ---Miss Lorel

The children have adjusted well to grade one. September was all about color. We had some colorful jello, a delicious fruit salad and painted with brown pudding. The children did an excellent job writing their own Brown Bear, Brown Bear story. Thank you to all the parents for sending seeds to school for our science project.

Elementary students were thrilled by a recent author visit. Hazel Hutchins (author

of The Great Bike Rescue - our One Book, One School read from last year) enter-

tained our students with juggling feats and amazing facts about being an author.

Thanks to the Rocky Mountain Book Award Committee for their financial support in

bringing Ms Hutchins to our school.

Junior High News - This year Alberta Ed. has implemented a new Junior High Options program called CTF (Career Technology Foundations). Students are able to work on independently created challenges and projects, in areas that are of most interest to them. The CTF program is not just about creating things. It is also about planning, designing, making global connections, and learning to make links with possible career opportunities. So far the students are off to a great start! There are many great projects on the go, such as...bookshelves, bike/skateboard ramps, model sheds, RCMP career planning, mini horse stalls, birdhouses, toolboxes, baking/cooking projects, cosmetology research, home decor rulers, and more!! It will be exciting to see all the creativity and craftsmanship as pro-jects are completed. We are very excited about this new program!

The Grade 5/6 class have had an awesome start to the year! Students are back into the swing of learning! In Language Arts students are creating personal posters that highlight big events in their lives so far. A few will be displayed in class every week to share with classmates. Feel free to stop in and have a look. Students bring their agendas home nightly to remind them of the work they need to finish. Please sign your child's agenda if they have completed their homework. Also feel free to write in a note to me about an absence or a concern as I will sometimes do the same.
