Happy November!! I honestly can’t believe that I am saying happy November already! The holiday season will be here before we know it. Make sure that you are checking the weather forecast each day and dress your children appropriately. We still have the students go outside when it is cold outside so make sure they have warm enough clothes such as hats, gloves, scarves and anything else you feel will help keep the kiddos warm.

The Fall Festival last week was a great event. It was nice to see how many families come out and support the Barbour PTO. The kids seemed to have a great time and everybody looked wonderful in their costumes. Many of the students were able to enjoy some fun in the warmth of the school.

In the Classroom!

Social Studies 7th grade: As part of our homework assignment, students are required to watch the news 3 times a week for current events. We are using these current events to compare them to the historical events that we are studying in the classroom. We are also analyzing how current events are affected by historical events and decisions.

English LA 8th grade: This quarter we are studying the Elements of Poetry. The students will study various forms of poetry, various poets and as a unit project, the students will complete a Poetry portfolio of original poems.

Friendly Reminders: Morning Drop off Procedures:

Southbound student drop off traffic on Clover Avenue will be directed to make a RIGHT TURN onto HARDING and proceed WEST to CENTRAL. At CENTRAL our school traffic is required to TURN LEFT (SOUTHBOUND) and proceed to LINCOLN. At LINCOLN, traffic will then TURN LEFT (EASTBOUND) and proceed to CLOVER, turning LEFT (NORTHBOUND).

All parents are required to drop off students on the SIDEWALK on the EAST SIDE of CLOVER at door C. Drivers are encouraged to pull into the “drop off lane” for the safety of all students.

As a result, no students are permitted to be dropped off while vehicles are proceeding SOUTHBOUND on CLOVER nor dropped off on Rose Ave. This will eliminate students needing to walk across CLOVER on their way to the EAST SIDE SIDEWALK.

One or more staff members will be supervising the traffic flow. In addition to the signs on Clover Avenue announcing the area as a school zone, CONES will be in position to help all of us remember our “traffic flow” plan.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Rec Night is Nov. 6 for grades 6-8 from 5:30-7:30. It is a glow in the dark theme.

¡¡Feliz noviembre!! ¡Honestamente no puedo creer que estoy diciendo feliz noviembre! La temporada de vacaciones estará aquí antes de que nos demos cuenta. Asegúrese de revisar el clima todos los días y de vestir a su hijo(a) adecuadamente. Los estudiantes van afuera todos los días aunque este frio, por favor asegúrese de que usen gorro, guantes, bufandas y cualquier otra cosa que usted sienta que los ayudará a mantenerse calientitos.

El Festival de Otoño de la semana pasada fue un gran evento. Fue agradable ver cómo muchas familias apoyan al PTO de la escuela. Los estudiantes tuvieron un tiempo estupendo, y todos se miraban maravillosos en sus disfraces. Muchos estudiantes se divirtieron y disfrutaron la calidez de la escuela.

En la Clase!

Estudios sociales de séptimo grado: Como parte de la tarea, se les requiere a los estudiantes ver las noticias 3 veces por semana. Estamos utilizando los acontecimientos actuales para compararlos con los acontecimientos históricos que estamos estudiando en la clase. También estamos analizando cómo los acontecimientos actuales son afectados por los acontecimientos históricos y sus decisiones.

Ingles de Octavo grado: Este trimestre estamos estudiando los elementos de la poesía. Los estudiantes estudiarán diversas formas de poesía, poetas, y como proyecto de unidad, los estudiantes completaran un portafolio de poesía con poemas originales.

Recordatorios Amistosos: Procedimientos por la mañana:

Las personas que conducen autos hacia el sur por la Avenida Clover para dejar a sus hijos en la escuela, serán dirigidos a girar hacia la DERECHA EN LA CALLE HARDING Y PROCEDER HACIA EL OESTE HASTA LA CALLE CENTRAL. UNA VEZ EN LA CALLE CENTRAL, SERÁ REQUERIDO QUE USTED GIRE HACIA LA IZQUIERDA y proceda hasta la calle LINCOLN. Una vez en la calle Lincoln, el trafico deberá voltear hacia la IZQUIERDA y proceder hasta la Avenida CLOVER.

Se requiere que todos los padres DEJEN a sus hijos, EN LA ORILLA DE LA BANQUETA del lado ESTE DE LA AVENIDA CLOVER en la puerta C. A todos los conductores se les recomienda por la seguridad del los estudiantes, que lleguen hasta el área del carril donde deben bajar de los autos los estudiantes, esto es por la seguridad de su(s) hijo(s) y los demás estudiantes.

Por lo tanto, no se permitirá que los estudiantes bajen de los autos mientras que haya vehículos procediendo hacia al SUR por la Avenida Clover ni bajar en la avenida Rose. Esto evitara que los estudiantes crucen la calle, cuando se dirigen hacia LA BANQUETA AL LADO ESTE DE LA AVENIDA CLOVER.

Habrá personal de la escuela que estarán supervisando la fluidez del tráfico. En adición a los anuncios de la “zona de área escolar” en la Avenida Clover, los CONOS estarán en posición correcta para ayudarnos a todos a recordar el plan de cómo debe fluir el trafico.

INFORMACIÓN IMPORTANTE: Rec Night será el 6 de Nov. para 6to a 8vo grados

de 5:30-7:30. El tema será fosforescente.
