Where is BSC heading?he BSC orms an importantmobile network componenttha t , in the contex t o  mobile communication’sdevelopmental direction,

provides a key link or holistic and urgently required network IP transormation andevolution.

Te 1st generation BSCs were orientedto IS-95 and 1x, and mainly designed tosolve traditional circuit voice problems.he 2nd generation BSCs were intendedto meet basic data service and network IPtransormation needs, while continuingto support circuit switched (CS) domaindevelopment such as EV-DO, and A and Abis interace IP transormation.Current ly , the BSC i s aced wi thunprecedented challenges regarding itscapability and perormance.

First o all, market competition andexisting network operations have ledCDMA operators to consider methods to

accelerate network deployment and urtherreduce end-to-end CO. Furthermore,Network evolution and developmentrequires a remarkably improved QoSmechanism or EV-DO Rev. A, a morecomplex radio resource managementalgorithm, and a strong engine or UltraMobile Broadband (UMB) throughputthat will even exceed 100 Mbps in asingle sector. Adaptation to these marketrequirements calls or the emergence o the3rd generation BSC.

IP transformationempowered by the 3rdgeneration BSC

he 3rd generation CDMA BSC isintegral to solving existing networks’traditional CS domain problems andachieving All-IP mobile broadband andreal-time multimedia service network evolution. Accomplishing this depends onits ve outstanding capabilities.

Powerul IP central switching network

he 3rd generation BSC exhibits aremarkable capacity increase and a powerulIP central switching network. Its uniiedinternal IP switching network reducescomplexity and improves integration, thusacilitating perormance improvements, reducing the number o unnecessary NEs (network elements) and enablingrapid network deployment. In addition, outstanding network perormance protectsinvestment and ensures that the network can cost-eectively evolve to UMB.

Flexible All-IP networking capability

o enable All-IP networking, bothhigh grade IP transmission eiciency andpowerul physical interace capabilitiesare extremely important. Only the ability to support E1/1, FE, SM-1, ADSL,microwave and other transmission media canensure convenient and lexible networking

rom urban areas to remote islands or deserts. According to dierent operators’ bearer

network conditions, the 3rd generationBSC provides dierent interaces andnetworking schemes. For operators withrich DM resources, IP over E1 canbe provided. For small and medium-sized operators with limited transmissionresources, the implementation o directIP connection without routers will realizeCAPEX and OPEX reductions.

leads the industry and displays outstandingtechnical indices. As ar as perormance isconcerned, central switch bandwidth canbe expanded rom 120 Gbps to 1 bps.In terms o integration, the PARC BSCcan serve 2 million subscribers, but occupy an area o less than 1sqm. As or powerconsumption, each subscriber requiresonly 4.25 mw. Regarding IP transmission, transmission expenses are saved by over 30%.In addition, it enables fexible conguration.Every 26 slot positions in a subrack canbe reely conigured. Besides, a completebackup mechanism and ve backups realizecomprehensive E1 port protection.

Te Indian operator AA, or example, previously required 44 BSCs and over100 cabinets to cover the Delhi area. Ater

deploying Huawei’s PARC BSC, only ourBSCs and eight cabinets are necessary. Telarge capacity and highly integrated PARCBSC has, not surprisingly, received muchpraise and recognition rom AA.

o date, Huawei’s pioneering PARCBSC has been widely deployed in variousmobile networks, and has received avorablecomments rom a number o operators inaddition to AA. hese include ChinaMobile, Brazil’s Vivo, Vietnam’s Vinaphone,Pakistan’s Uone, Singapore’s StarHub, andChile’s Movistar.

maintenance cost o equipment inventory.

Ultra-high integration and ultra-low power consumption

With the continuous rise in network scale

and the emergence o multiple access modes, the number o devices has increased, whichexerts greater spatial pressure on equipmentrooms. Te 3rd generation BSC’s advancedintegration characteristics can better utilizeavailable space. Dual Plane SymmetricalMixed-Plug technology can, or example, theoretically double spatial usage.

he 3rd generation BSC’s advancedtechnology can control power consumptionper subscriber to within 5mw, compared

with 10+mw or the 2nd Generation BSC.Given 2 million subscribers and a power rateo RMB1.6/kwh, a sum o RMB140,000(USD17,500) can be saved each year inpower charges. Low power consumptionalso generates less heat, which reducesequipment room air conditioning costs.

All-round disaster tolerance and backup capability

Due to its huge capacity, the 3rdgeneration BSC demands greater systemstability and reliability and requires acomprehensive backup capability. his

must at least eature: an All-IP switching

network with dual-plane backup inthe switching layer; 1+1 service boardprotection or resource pool mode inthe board layer; a service continuationmechanism in the event o interace boardailure in the transport layer; and multilayerbackup capability or maintenance boards, communication links and the maintenanceclient in the maintenance layer.

Gaining an edge throughPARC BSC

he Huawei-developed Platorm o   Advanced Radio Controller (PARC)represents a new generation All-IP hardwareplatorm that boasts cutting-edge technology and excellent competitive strengths. Ater

absorbing the multiple advantages o ACA,the 3rd generation BSC PARC is large incapacity, highly integrated, fexibly designed, highly reliable and oers lawless IP BSSnetworking capability while signiicantly reducing energy consumption. he PARCBSC ully meets smooth IP network evolution demands in response to mobilenetwork trends, and remarkably curtailsnetwork construction and maintenancecosts. hus competitiveness is improvedacross the whole network.
