    A productive company has lower operating costs and can sell its products orservices at lower prices, bringing increased volume and profits.

    Employee productivity is key to organizational success and to a country's

    economy.

    Employee productivity must increase if the overall standard of living is toincrease, according to economist Paul Krugman.

    Productivity is the driving force behind a companys growth

    and profitability Productivity directly affects a companys profit.

    When employees are productive they accomplish more in a given amount of time. In turn, their efficiency saves their company money in time and labor.

    When employees are unproductive , they take longer to complete projects,which cost employers more money due to the lost time.

    Productivity is linked to employee morale

    When employees are happy at work they have more motivation, whichincreases productivity. Poor morale causes employees to be disengaged.If employees are not given the proper resources to do their jobs easily and

    efficiently, their productivity will suffer.

    EMPLOYEE MORALE

    DEFINITIONDescription of the emotions, attitude, satisfaction, and overall outlook of employees during their time in a workplace environment.

    Part of effective productivity is thought to be directly related to the morale of the employees.

    Employees that are happy and positive at work are said to have positive

    or high employee morale.

    Companies that maintain employees who are dissatisfied and negative abouttheir work environment are said to have negative or low employee morale.

    According to Yoder ,morale is a feeling, somewhat related to esprit decorps, enthusiasm or zeal.

    Fippo has described morale, As a mental condition or attitude of individuals and groups which determines their willingness to co-operate.

    Good morale is evidenced by employee enthusiasm, voluntaryconformance with regulations and orders, and a willingness toco-operate with others in the accomplishment of anorganizations objectives

    FACTORS AFFECTING MORALE

    According to McFarland , the important factors which have a bearing onmorale are-

    The attitude of the executives and managers towards their subordinates.

    Working conditions, including pay, hours of work, and safety rules.

    Effective leadership and an intelligent distribution of authority andresponsibility in the organization.

    The design of the organizations structure which facilities the flow of work.

    The size of the organization.

    TYPES OF MORALE

    According to McFarland ,high morale exists when employee attitudes arefavorable to the total situation of a group and to the attainment of itsobjectives low morale exists when attitudes inhibit the willingness andability of an organization to attain its objectives.

    High morale is represented by the use of such term spirit, zest ,enthusiasm,loyalty, dependability and resistance to frustration.

    Low morale is described by such words and phrases as apathy, bickering, jealously, pessimism, fighting, disloyalty to the organization, disobedienceof the orders of the leaders, dislike of, or lack of interest in, ones job, andlaziness.

    The Effects of Employee Morale on Productivity

    Employee morale can effect a company's productivity on a variety of levels.

    Happy employees are productive employees who care about their work andtheir company, and will go the extra distance to get a job done.

    Employees with low morale are less likely to do a good job because theysimply do not care as much.

    In addition, they can affect the productivity of their coworkers by spreadingill will and negativity

    Commitment

    Employees with high morale have a higher level of commitment to theiremployer than employees with low morale.

    Committed employees are more productive because they tend to stay at their jobs longer, honing their skills and developing an understanding of the bigpicture, which enables them to effectively resolve difficulties.

    For example, if you run a donut shop and your donut machine breaks, anengaged employee with experience will know how to repair it, while anemployee with low morale will be more likely to simply walk away..

    Attendance

    Employees with high morale tend to have a better attendance record thanemployees with low morale because they are less likely to use any possibleexcuse to avoid coming to work.

    To stay productive, your company must be staffed at an effective level.

    For example, if you run a manufacturing plant and an employee with lowmorale calls in sick, you may have idle employees in another phase of theproduction process because they cannot work without the parts that he wouldhave produced

    Mistakes

    It is common for employees who are unhappy at work to not particularlycare if they make mistakes that have a negative impact on the business.

    An employee with low morale might not make the effort to follow throughand remedy a situation that requires extra effort.

    For example, an employee on a production line who does not bother topull a defective part hinders productivity down the line, as that partbecomes part of a larger assembly.
